  • You don't need a TV license to watch programmes that aren't live. It says so on the TV license webpage.

  • @ImmaOnDaInternetz Yeah well try telling the BBC that as my friend in Germany also cannot watch any content on the BBC Iplayer website either!

  • @dumfries93 it's not.

  • Much appreciated, but this is far beyond the average person's capabilities (me included). How about someone creating a downloadable app or program that will temporarily change the pc/laptop settings to use a proxy server for this purpose? I'd love to be able to watch ITV or BBC programmes on holiday in Spain or Greece, without having to take my satellite system with me!

  • Something tells me this is illegal

  • @dumfries93

Of course it is, they don't pay for their television license.

  • are you a keen damien rice fan? then this video is for you!

  • @cncarrollton Thanks for the proxy list. Managed to watch my team's highlights!

  • Wow, I'm afraid I have to agree with all the other comments. This was one of the most poorly done demos I've seen. For someone like myself who doesn't do any of this stuff all the time, and just wanted it for the iPlayer, I was really disappointed that I got as far as installing FoxyProxy.

  • okay look lady! we don't know what site your going to, to get the proxys i only know how to get to half this stuff because of another video! it would help your you said your website name and the site names your going to! I SHALL DISLIKE THIS FOR UNCLEAR INFO!

  • @willseyboy : just in case you're serious: only the last one counts in the chain, obviously.

  • i have tried 5 proxys and it still does not work, its saying that its not avalailable in my area.

  • @willseyboy try being behind 7 proxies, should work fine

  • I'm on hunt for programs for MAC, I don't like windows that much because the applications suck on windows. xcode is the best

  • @MrSupershuttle So am i.

  • @MrSupershuttle So am i.

  • I'm actually working a a project for something like this (:

We're running a squid server in the UK and are giving free access (during December and maybe January if there's lot's of demand.) but yeah currently looking to see if there's any demand so we've created a signup page (nothing major)

Can read more here if you'd like to try it (:

  • to all, if you want to watch in BBC, try this video, , , this works for me 100% watch?v=gssIFMYN-fw

  • Am I the only one who thinks this is an incredibly poor demo. References are made to ports and domains without explaining what port to use. "all these link are on the web page" What web page? I appreciate the effort, but how do you get to manual configuration? I found it on my own but I would suggest you redo this with step by step instructions. We cannot see anything you are doing.

  • I actually think the easiest way to access BBC iPlayer, Hulu, etc. outside of the UK is to actually use a VPN (virtual private network). Quick, easy and painless. :)

I use VPN Authority . IMO, it's good because it's cheap, fast, reliable and doesn't require this MASSIVE headache to setup (a la above). :)

good luck to those that try the above. hahaha...

  • better off with a vpn like vpn4tv(dot)com

  • BBC programs are restricted to UK viewers for a good reason - they pay a license fee! You don't!

  • @tjamassey

I pay a BBC liscense fee - but live in the USA - so I should have the right to see the BBC.

  • I d be lost without the BBC iplayer. Doctor Who is on there for christ sake!!

  • Just use Hotspot Shield, it's easier and free. I live in the UK and I use it to access Hulu and other channels that are geographically restricted.

  • @silverbullit733 Because Hotspot Shield doesen't change you're IP to the one of the uk so you can't use BBC iPlayer.

  • I think this is a little unfair in the uk we pay the license fee that means people who don't pay get it for free

  • @GamerYetPolitical92 You can be in the UK .. With no TV or anything whatsoever .. Only with a laptop and internet .. you don't pay ANY fees to watch online .. Don't complain :P

  • or u can just live in the uk to get hd tv and movies

  • <33

  • i love this it works thank you so much

  • @pkrios Hey what site do u use to obtain the IP adresses?

  • Awesome! Thank you for doing this for us.

  • Thank you. I love doctor who and stuff so this is GREAT

  • work good for me!!..

  • one word: TOR

  • I really don't know what attracts foreigners to the BBC, i mean the majority of their programmes are shit. Surely, ABC and other broadcasters aren't that shockingly bad that potential viewers resort to watching Eastenders and other cobble on the BBC. The only good thing about the BBC is the commercial ban and QI/BBC sport.

  • @Homzy09 Only someone who does not watch BBC would say that. You carry on watching your USA TV crap which consists of 60% adverts. Even the adds are crap. It is nice to see what happens in the rest of the world too. The USA is not the only country on this planet. Just eat your burger while watching NASCAR in your trailer, between adverts then keep your ignorant comments to yourself.

  • @seriouslink

I don't watch the BBC? Maybe you didn't aknowledge my comment. I quote, 'The only good thing about the BBC is... QI/BBC sport'. How do i know what QI/BBC sport is like if i've never watched it?

Now, it doesn't say i'm American on my channel, so i don't why you came to that conclusion. I'm actually from Lincolnshire, England. I never knew England was the 51st state of America. I mean, i really took my eye of the ball there!

  • @Homzy09 when I lived in the UK I too critisised British TV. It is only when you live long term in the USA you realise just how good it is compared with the dross over here. With the limited number of channels and budget there will always be some people who complain. Also I agree with those who say why should overseas users get the BBC when they don't pay licence. Well I would gladly pay the licence fee if the BBC could arrange it, it's cheaper than a VPN service. They need to fix that.

  • Comment removed

  • @seriouslink

I haven't even been to America, so i won't judge their TV. However, i agree with some of points you make, so we should leave it at that.

  • If you brits have to pay for it, the only one you can blame is your government and the laws you let them pass. it's only your fault that royalties can fuck you up in the butt and you're not doing shit about it, except complaining on youtube, like emofags you really are

  • @DrkRevan Brits are not emofags. Simple as.

  • Brilliant. Worked great and was easy to set up and use. To the people from the UK who are complaining...I feel your pain. I would pay for access to BBC programmes BUT THEY WON'T LET ME.

  • Comment removed

  • whats the IP address you used?

  • Cry about it

  • I am a UK taxpayer, and I dont have an issue with non UK residents viewing crap shows that I am forced to pay for.

Go ahead and have a ball!

  • This is a giant breach of copyright laws and a completely unethical. The people of Britain must pay the Licence Fee to obtain the right to use this unique service and you are getting it for free. Consider why they do not want you to be able to watch this content online, you have not payed for it and as I have pointed out above it is actually illegal to watch it without a valid Licence and a proof of a UK address. (Hence the IP tracking that is used to see which country you are in.)

  • @snowballwest

    lolumad?

  • you want it pay for it

  • fuck you

  • I try doing this and it says I need to turn java on. It's already on, but it says it's not and won't play. They even show this in the video, but it just works for them anyway. I don't get it.

  • download like a pirate day?! what the fuck?!

  • the vid to blury I can't read nothing on this

  • I just use google chrome and get a proxy server from a website. works like a charm!

  • @polaracci what plug-in are you using on chrome ?

  • @Gifted23 You don't use any plug-in! All you need to do is go to options>change proxy settings> LAN settings> check the proxy server box. then go find a proxy server address and port and you're in!

  • Worked like a charm, thanks!

For those of you after a list of proxys, try xroxy's site

  • A lot of these proxy sites have software that needs to be paid for. They do work though. Either way, it's illegal so you might as well just torrent whatever you want to watch, to be honest.

  • I would liked to have made a comment on whether this worked or not, but the video quality is so poor you can't even test the theory behind it. Shame.

  • Utterly useless crap!! I'd rather move to UK.

  • none of this stuff works

  • how do I do this with chrome?

I wanna watch us shows from europe

    Im a nOOb

  • i pay my tv licence :(

  • you americans like bbc iplayer =)

  • Duh! Yea! Americans DO like BBC i-player for what American network execs try to pass off as entertainment is 99% pablum.

  • has anyone got caught using proxies or does no someone have got caught?

what is the worst thing that could happen using proxies and is it better with laptop or pc?

  • what do u need the foxyproxy for?

  • this is great!!!!! ottally helped me, thanks!

  • can you tell me what ip and port u used?

  • @TheIndianMan100 : Get ExpatShield - just install and you are ready to go. It is 100% free, private and secure. Dont have to deal with IPs and ports ;-)

  • @artagrawal Thank you .. sure Expat Shield was easy to install and works great and also you can see free online live tele as well. Big up to you.. you are a star. ! I use expatshield on mozilla and for BBC iplayer only and so when i am using chrome only ... is the expat shield off. ?!! just a doubt... but it is indeed an easy solution. Thanks once again :) !

  • the uk proxies are note free -.-

  • Am I the only person that can't read the screen? I'm fairly sure my sight is OK, isn't it just a little out of focus?

  • @Caleymac yes same thing here. But it's pretty simple to understand what your doing once you play with the proxy program

  • where do you click on bbc sessions?

  • get a life you loser..

  • fuck off

  • @ImJackDyson payback for uk sponging off the rest of the world.

  • The UK does not sponge off the rest of the world, don't be stupid.

  • @trainxboxer oh are u american then? With ur big tanks and greed for oil and gold. Picking on the third world countries with no running water. Suck on that bitch.

  • @iAlexMac1 Then again I'm not the one making the comments about other countries sucking on my country's resources when my country itself has done so. Thanks for proving my point.

  • The thing is, even if you're a paying UK citizen, you would not be able to watch iplayer if you're abroad...

And why don't BBC (and others) let international customers view their programs for a little fee...?

  • it doesn't work anymore for BBC iPlayer! :(( It used to work some weeks ago, but now it doesn't! What to do?

  • check out iDownload from R2X Software also allows access via proxy and has series link and in built searching of programs

  • This kind of search for proxy is very tedious, and unreliable. You should use FoxyProxy with TOR network client instead (I use Vidalia) I'll be doing a tutorial on it soon.

  • Could you please post the proxy address that works for you? Or at least pm me? Thanks in advance (for UK videos)

  • i dont get this....

  • Great video! Worked like a charm.

  • scotland the brave falconfira ya twat!!

  • 1 star for telling you how to use a proxy server? Also using Hotspot Shield doesn't even work for Hulu, as it reports it as an Anonymous Proxy. FAIL

  • Comment removed

  • I just used Hotspot Shield with Hulu a few minutes ago and it worked fine. It's definitely a lot easier than using a proxy server.

The problem with this video is it does not give helpful information to those who are outside the US. For them it's much better to use Hotspot Shield to view US content.

  • Whether it works or not, sorry for being a complete asshat, I was just a bit pissed off at something else :)

  • I'm in Malaysia and I found this really useful and for a complete technology misfit, I found the directions easy to follow and actually got the iplayer to work. However, when I tried to download programs it told me downloading was only allowed in the UK. Any way around this?

  • oh yeah btw awesome post!!!

  • Such hate. Lighten up people, this is an informative video telling you something useful. American should fuck off, get a life, enough with the nation hating. I sure hope not everyone (like the morons i see in my own country) is a bigoted asshole who thinks they are better than everyone else. No country is the best in the world, not even in TV. If this is the attitude everywhere i guess we are all should just burn alive.

On a side note.... fuck off into / onto what?

  • why is everyone so stressed that they pay for the tv license, i dont like in the uk anymore but i obviously played for the tv there, and thats how i came to know of the iplayer

  • what i cant find a link to use for the proxy

  • wooo, now I can watch Hulu (hopefully!) WOO Family Guy FTW... Woo... Other random US Shows FTW

  • What is the port number?

  • yea but we still pay for BBC because we are renting our house in UK and it was included and we never bothered to change it. We moved to asia because I am a shipping lawyer and the place Im at now has one of the biggest ports in the world. So ya!

  • well done smiffy, i love the bbc and have done for years, but recently my family have moved to asia and cant wash british TV, so I have to watch this but americans fuck off

  • Why so mean to Americans?

  • Well said Smiffy!

  • 209.85.229.104:80/search?q=ass

  • ok, found an ip that works, and its port, but iplayer says "this content doesnt seem to be working"

any idea how to fix that?

i can download now, so still happier than before =)

    thxthxthx sooo much <3

  • this worked, but the proxys i found that worked were all very slow.anyone got any fast proxys?

  • 'Steal like a thief day?'

  • fucking too right Smiffy, rest of the world envious of our BBC

  • what the fuck???

  • damn dude take a chill pill

  • yea i know without a port number this video is basically useless, what a waste of time.

  • Thanks a lot! Just used this and worked great. :)

  • fucking morons alot of the sites provide the ip.s but they wont tell u witch port to use when u open the fucking connection onion routing is better

  • twat

  • can you give me some uk proxy's

  • What if I don't have firefox?

  • ¬¬ you can download firefox or don't hulu, either way, you lose! BWAHAHAHAHA

  • bad tutorial!!!

  • and how did you go from needing to enable javascript to watching the video

i found a proxy website that tells me that dont know what to do i know its on

  • i found the proxies but where do i get the ports?

  • Hahah, why would you even want to watch the BBC...?!

  • cause its great

  • Cos the UK RuLeS!

    Muahahaha

  • UK 4eva!!!!!!!!!!!God save the Queen

  • Yep :P

  • What goes under the post? I'm confused on this part.

  • i dont know what to put in the port box (yes i'm a n00b) please help.

  • nevermind

  • The numbers after the colon

  • is there a better way to hack the server, i mean something what actually work, like hotspot shield!

  • This does NOT work if you want to watch live F1 on BBC. iPlayer works - F1 does not. :[

By the way; it would be nice if you could link some websites that provide uk proxy.

  • Thank you, worked great for me! I wanted to watch Britain's got Talent from Germany and now am able to.

  • Thanks very much top stuff being looking for ages trying to do this at last it works

  • so ive got a proxy, not using foxyproxy, but i still cant access the content because it gives me a javascript error like the one in the video.

is the javascript error due to the proxy not running scripts or something?

  • YAWN !

  • sorry, someone hacked my account, and I didn't post that reaction. sorry!!

oh yes, I do have one.... an asshole I mean

  • Comment removed

  • Asshole

  • Cheers for this. Its the best guide I've seen. Lets hope it works now.

  • Huge thanks ^^

  • <3 tor

  • I tried this extensively, but it seems I couldn't find an appropriate proxy. Anyone know what Im doing wrong? I tried using MANY proxies from MANY different sites and nothing worked. Was I just unlucky or is there something else I should be not doing/doing?

thanks for any help and cheers for the video in the first place

  • i hate bbc i player

it takes soooo long to load

    its depressing

  • Comment removed

  • i call that a bad conection i have a good conection and there isnt even a loading time

  • I pay the license fee (bloody rip off if you ask me!!!) but when i'm away from the UK (and sometimes it's for long periods) it's a anoying missing programs you really enjoy watching (and have payed for) like QI, Have I got News for You, Eastenders, etc..., and since the bbc haven't provided a service for this then I think this is quite good. Thanks for this vid now I can watch what Phil, Peggy, Ronnie, Roxy, Stacy, Danielle, Gary, Minty, etc, are getting up to while i'm away from home :D

  • I do actually.

  • Excuse my ignorance but how do I find out what the port name is for my Airport Extreme on my mac?

  • This is great for British BBC-paying people traveling abroad :-) Although I am not one of them :-)

  • Oh that old thing. Long way for a shortcut if you ask me. I hacked Iplayer months ago. It's too easy and can be done without changing IP's. As I said too easy. By the method above is the same method that those spanning twats Number1ongoogle are trying to sell. Save your money, It's just this.

  • Totally agree with you, they are twats at Number1ongoogle! Unfortunately I paid! Dont go there!

  • took some time finding a proxy that worked, but now i'm streaming Top Gear! Thanks Video!
