This may sound trivial but does anyone know why the strobes on the tips of the wings don't start flashing until rotation? And then at the moment of touchdown they stop? Was it just a design that McDonnell-Douglas made when building the MD-80 Series?
the reason they start on takeoff is because when the plane lifts its nose it knows that it is airborn so the strobes kicks on and sends a msg to the computers that is is off. And the same thing on landing but the other way around as soon as the mains hit they shut off and send a msg on the ground. Just like wen the close the main door and the anti collosion light comes on it sends an out time and when it parks and shuts off the anti's it sends an in time
They need to put the wifi on a different plane and ditch the 88's. They are so loud by today's standards that I don't have to look up to know it is a MD-88.
DL has always flown a daily service to Melbourne including the MD-88....
