  • What bass did Entwhistle have in this video?

  • @Whoa9611 it's a warwick buzzard, he designed it himself. just google it, it's one bitchass bass :)

  • Was in Vegas, the real house of blues

  • God (not John Entwistle...the other one) needed bass lessons...

    We miss you Ox!!

  • They unleashed the ox in this one,one of the best in the business.that f'n rocked!!!

  • wow, what a great bass player. never really listened to him that much. Hes the man.

  • 1) The Real Me does not have a bass solo per se. It simply is a bass solo.

    2) Yes, that's definitely House of Blues in Chicago. It was the first night, Friday the 12th. I can tell because I'm jumping up in down between Roger and John in the front row. I chose to be in the second row on Saturday on account of the high stage. Those nights were magical.

  • @WhoFanExtraordinaire damn, i hate to say it but i dont think roger was really feelin it that night, but thunder was coming down like no other

  • Not sure where?? That big House of Blues sign over the stage wasn't a clue? Lol!

  • Very Cool!! Us old guys remember this stuff well :-)

    Danny

  • i hate people who say stuff like "Meh its not that impressive" YOU PLAY IT

  • Nice...plays like a beast but THIS GUY RATED OVER FLEA???

  • @HaukkaMan Yes. John Entwistle is rated over Flea a million times.

  • @HaukkaMan YES

  • he is so amazing it is almost ridiculous

  • @noodledwarf ALMOST???!

  • This is the home town gig, Shepard's Bush Empire. Tiny place. They don't play it evey year but if they've toured they do.

I went to the 2000 one

  • I like that John's bass is extremely high in the beginning of the song, but I still can't find the original song's bass solo that I've heard about...

  • Which songs (on record) by The Who - aside from My Generation - have bass solos?

  • @captain94ace Listen to The Real Me off of Quadrophenia and then all things shall be made clear to you my child....and you're welcome.

  • @gypsydust I thought 'The Real Me' didn't have a bass solo on the record, that it was only added in live later? I could be wrong though - thanks anyway. :)

  • @captain94ace They introduced it during their '96 tour of Quadrophenia

  • Entwistle = Bass god :)

  • It was on the HOB (House of Blues)

  • when daltrey says where the fuck have i been he sounds like stu from the hangover

oh yeah and John Entwistle is god and no one else comes close

  • the best bass player with some of the best players to ever live

  • I heard one of my friends say Flea was the best bassist ever the other day........I smacked him.

  • @THINLIZZYFANno1 Flea is the best at what he does.....funk/slap/rock. so why compare John and Flea.

  • @THINLIZZYFANno1 we are the 99%

  • @karraion 99% of what?

  • @THINLIZZYFANno1 the 99% that think john is the best of all times :D and that we smack ppl in the face who think flee is the best.

  • @karraion hahaha yeah, ah Flea is amazing but he's nothing on this guy!

  • @THINLIZZYFANno1 i hope you knocked his brain into gear lol

  • When im with my band i start to play like John, like some lines away from the original and then i solo like crazy and everyone stops and its like wtf your doing.

John, you really inspires me XD

  • JOHN FUCKING ENTWISTLE R.I.P. you, beyond all doubt, are a virtuoso at the bass a guru among all of us bass players. you make it look so easy!!

  • Bass solo begins at 5:04

  • I'm a bass player. This is my favorite Who song. Entwhistle is not my inspiration, but DAYUM...I bow in his presence!!!! THAT was U N G O D L Y!!!!!!!

  • thousand times better than cliff burton

  • @bassistchrisist million times better than cliff burton

  • @yhtomitalmighty absolutly right my friend :)

  • this is from house of blues 6:44

  • john was the most talented... just saying!

  • Its on the House of Blues

  • See John's only authorized story on Itunes An Ox's Tale.. download for only 9.99

  • someone knows what is the name of this song?

  • @droxp

    5:15, on the Quadrophenia album.

  • @droxp They say it at 5:15

  • One of the best bassist i hope im half as good as him one day

  • This was on their final gig together in 2002 right??

  • this was in 96 or in 2002???

  • Its pretty obvious they are at a House of Blues, not the Royal Albert Hall haha.

  • 1) Absolutely some of the finest fretwork ever.

    2) Let me be the first to point out that the F'ING GIANT NEON "HOUSE OF BLUES" SIGN might be a first clue that this concert was not recorded at the Royal Albert Hall. :)

  • I never tire of John Enwistle solos

  • Friend: Why does John never move? He must be baked!

Me:Because, "When you're a force of nature, NOTHING CAN MOVE YOU!"

  • @MrKermit09 Cocaine Explosion FTW,John did massive amounts of it,and sadly it eventually killed him.He was found in his hotel room with a shit ton of snort and a high priced prostitute.God I hope my death is on par with that one.:P

  • @CrimsonCranium He lived the rock star lifestyle until the end

  • er venue looks like when they played the shepherds bush empire , entwistle the genius of the bass

  • The Who , parte de la historia grande del Rock & Roll, J. Entwistle , un grande , capo!, de lo mejor .

  • Threewinds if you want to know the real truth if a sound man has his head up his ass you the listener in the crowd are screwed the guys cant hear them self the levels are off in themonitors there is so much that goes into a live show and the bands sound suffers its as simple as that

  • Note the logo up behind the band, not Royal Albert hall, but somewhere at a "House of Blues"

  • @KCBill13

Yeah, Chicago. I think this is from 99. They did a quick tour with a couple shows in Chicago and a couple in Shepherd's Bush.

  • I think he might be the best musician in human history.

    (Yes, including Beethovan)

  • I think he might be the best musician in human history.

    (Yes, including Beethovan)

  • These a big ''House of Blues'' Banner behind them

  • Cliff Burton rivals John! Woo two legends of bass playing!

  • No disrespect to John, he's great, but back in the late 60's and early 70's there were a million guys playing like that. It stands out today because it just isn't done anymore, but it's hardly amazing.

  • @plangentmusic - Really? Who were the million guys playing like that? I don't think so.

  • @plangentmusic there was no one playing like that during the 60's and 70's. Not even John.

  • @XtrmMcjohnson Not true. Improved amplification of later years brought it out. But a lot of guys played like that.

  • @plangentmusic yeah but he was still the first to play like that

  • Entwistles best playing is on Can You See The Real Me? If any crappy fag band of today thinks they can compare let me know.

  • I don't care what anybody thinks... NOBODY will ever play lead bass again

  • Holy shit, he moves his fingers so rapidly at 6:05 , and not even one mistake.

  • its almost unfair that John is able to play like that and we, the commonfolk, only dream of it.

  • John Entwistle, John Entwistle and John Entwistle... my favouriteS...!

    ps.: dave who ?!??!!?

  • John Entwistle, Chris Squire & Geddy Lee my favorites...!

  • his right hand is more impressive than his left - frankly NO one who's played bass can recreate that - its simply amazing and unless you play, you simply can't understand how impressive that is

  • @coltom actually its the exxact opposite, Lead bass is so fucking easy. Anybody could do that.

  • Only one bass player was voted "BASSIST OF THE MILLENIUM" by other professional musicians and bass players. Enough said.

  • Makes me want to go to Brighton...

  • Not Royal Albert Hall--The House of Blues. The sign's right up over the stage. :-)

  • With Mr. Entwistle & then Townshend at the controls

    Those strings are melting!

  • John Entwistle. No one came close. A fucking master of the art.

  • John Paul Jones.

  • @NORECESS69 while JPJ is a great bass player he never is at or near the top of any bass player polls in the last 45 yrs like Entwistle.

  • @weecoby3 John Enwhistle is very good, but have you heard Gary Thain of the Uriah Heep? He is also a very good bass player...and Jack Bruce, Felix Pappalardi of The Mountain

  • @weecoby3 got that right!!!!

  • @weecoby3 Y E A H

    B A B Y!!!

    Effortless!!!

  • LONG LIVE THE OX!

  • There is townshend and entwistle...

the singer is roger daltrey??? i think that entwistle is the most important bassist in the history...

    :)

  • Not Royal Albert House 2000. His solo in 2000 was diff.

    diff clothes too.

  • I believe this is from the House of Blues in Chicago in November 1999.

  • fingers of magic

  • Entwistle - still an inspiration.

  • Man, John Entwistle is no doubt the best bass player to have ever lived, there are so many different techniques he uses! It's amazing! CAN I HEAR THE THUNDER!!??

  • i really think john entwistle is underrated these days =(

with all these mainstream bassists and everything, people are forgetting john. im not saying these new bassists are bad, but its sad many people are forgetting the 1 legendary guy who started it all D=

not to mention idiots who see entwistle's solos aren't good enough to comprehend just how skillful they are

  • @ragglefraggle09 i said that to the bassist in my band the other day told him to check out some ox. hes never heard of him and i told him hes the most underratted bassist of all time

  • tone is unmistakable, technique is inimitable

the one and only OX! :))

    RIP Thanks for the music!

  • Wholly fuck, thats FABULOUS. Never saw this before.

  • please..could anybody give me suggestions on how to get a tone similar to his bass?? tone (solo)

  • Alot of distortion and vibrato chorus.

  • tube amp, active pickups, od/distortion, and a longer scale (35'') bass

  • @bigkid2422 i think he used rotosound strings, or some kind of strings close to that name... but i'm pretty sure he uses rotosound, which gives him that twaing sound

  • Rob Halford has only gotten better over the years

  • that not Rob Halford, it's John "Rabbit" Brundrick on piano.

  • Greatest Bass Player Ever!!!

  • It's at the House of Blues!!!!

  • @bigfeet2006 The Royal Albert House of Blues, WOOT!

  • Painful rock and roll truth: The instrument players get better as they get older, but the singers do not.

Enjoy the bands while they are at the top of their games, the window with all of the band at the height of their abilities does not last long.

  • That's a good observation. The only exception I can think of offhand is Paul Rodgers. He seems to have kept his pipes pretty well intact over the years.

  • yeah ur right. i just saw van halen last year and david lee roth was not bad (for an old man haha)

  • @Threewinds Exactly. Although i think Phil Collins and Steven Tyler can still sing great.

  • @Threewinds I disagree. Roger Waters.

  • @ha0n123 While Roger Waters is a good bass player he never is at or close to the top in any polls conducted for the last 45 yrs like Entwistle has been.

  • @Threewinds dave mustaine is of course the exception lol! he got better!

  • @Threewinds Very astute comment.

  • @Threewinds if you want to know the real truth if a sound man has his head up his ass you the listener in the crowd are screwed the guys cant hear them self the levels are off in themonitors there is so much that goes into a live show and the bands sound suffers its as simple as that

  • @Threewinds yet daltry is still kicking in his 60s.

  • @Threewinds I agree with you almost totally, but then the question we all have to ask is, what supernatural being fueled Dio? His prowess grew and grew.

  • @Threewinds Damn man.. why couldnt you just leave me in my ignorance? now i can barrely enjoy this without thinking about it.

  • @Threewinds Thats not true, well not for all, i know rock and roll singers who get better with age ;)

  • greatest live band ever

  • i love this song so much! john goes crazy on the bass the singer is doing very well but i only have two negative comments (please dont yell at me for them)

    1. this guy playing drums is nothing compared to keith they cant do anything about that but still.

    2. i wish pete wasn't playing a fender i hate fender but awell he is still awesome

  • i think if u saw God himself perform u would come up backstage after the show and say "just a couple of small points i noticed where u could improve"

  • @Bf109D if he was missing his old drummer that was freekin amazing and is being replaced by some guy and his guitarist is playing a fender yes i would

  • Wow!

  • zak kicks ringo's ass lol

  • most people kick ringo'a ass =P

  • Zak and Ringo are 2 amazing drummers.

    They both are talented.

  • wow.. that fender sounds great, especially at the hands of pete.. and for john, just wow.

  • hiwatts kick any other amps ass and that strat aint bad either. my tow faves together in the hands of pete.

  • :O..... wow.

  • This Is From The HOB in Chicago....It's available on The Blues To The Bush CD. It's out of print right now.

  • "Not sure where this is?!" It says "House of Blues" in the background!

  • There are so many houses' of blues, just look online.

  • whats the name of this song?

  • 5:15

  • 5 15.

  • moon was amazing, i still can't play most of his songs. its like musical white noise.

john entwistle was amazing- true pioneer

  • I think the big clue to where this was performed is the bright neon sign in the back that says House of Blues...Wicked tune..

  • OOO THEN I HEARD THE THUNDER

  • *that's entwistle with a t -fail-

  • moon + entwisle = greatest rhythm section of all time, surrusly <3

  • man pete strums fast

  • what a cool son of a bitch

  • I'm pretty sure this isn't Royal Albert Hall. Thanks so much for posting this, though! The Who is the best!

  • Your right, it isn't the Royal Albert Hall. This Theatre is much smaller and the RAH soes not have Balconies like that close to the Stage.

  • What an outstanding band ! I am addicted to The who!! I love everyone in the band.

  • Greatest Band in the World!!! EVER!!!

  • what year was this

  • moon is only more recognized because he was a drummer and did crazier stuff. john was always more quiet in his personality and actions. his bass playing was his way to blow off steam

  • Kinda cool. The sound was way too muddy to enjoy, but then again, this is a YouTube vid, not a DVD I bought! The Who are always willing to jam out a song, so kudos to them once again for jamming out a classic!

  • Comment removed

  • the best dont only use fender.

  • JOHN IS JIMI HENDRIX ON BASS!

  • hendrix is john on guitar...

  • You could also say...Jimi is John Entwistle on guitar!

  • @LukaaaasMusic jimi hendrix is john on 6 string...

  • @LukaaaasMusic Flea and Pastorius are!

  • 5:15

  • best who song in the world rip my friend..

  • That's the House of Blues gig, from about 1999. I think that was right before the summer 2000 (U.S.) tour. I saw them on the 2000 tour - amazing. The best show (Dallas) I've ever seen, ever.

  • John Entwistle is freekin amazing he plays the bass like lightning

  • Zak Starkey kicks a**!!!!

  • bro u cant compare a bassist and a drummer

  • what a solo.John is the best player ever he so smooth and cool up there its fantastic,I miss him in the Who.The Who still rocks but without Moon and espeially

john they lost that great sound, but they still kick ass in concert saw them in boston 2006 awesom show.

  • yeah we all miss moon he was the best

  • I think hes better than Ringo
