I always find this piece doesn't really live unless it is played somewhat fast. It has to caress the listening. When it's slow, there is something about the melody that just doesn't come through. Some aspects of it don't even show up when played too slow.
Although at first I thought, "Whoa! This tempo is way too fast!" I soon became used to it. I found that the great beauty of this piece came shining through, despite, or perhaps in part because of, the speed.
Thank you for this lovely rendition, with a bonus of charming visuals.
Absolument extraordinaire.
for god sake. can someone play it in strate 4/4 without the 8d swing. it sounds like he's forgeting the notes and is stalling. i know thats how it was ment to be but its unatural to my ears!!
the mysterious barricades are the petticoats of the gentle ladies according to a great deal of reasearch on the subject!!! Good wishes all you Couperin fans
Any ideas what are these "mysterious barricades"? While the title sounds mysterious, the music does not. I wonder if there's some inside joke implied by the title.
You are totally right. In fact, this pun means "lingerie fine" (women's underwears), like "corset", "bustier" and other delicate and intimate stuffs...
You must read "Imprimatur" by Monaldi and Sorti. The Rondo "Les Baricades..." plays a role in this book. But the Rondo is accredite to Francesco Corbetta in this book.
Beautifully played, and the quality of the recording is excellent. I was also very impressed by the sound of the instrument, very full and resonant. Thanks for posting.
Beautiful!

I have heard several version of this piece, and your interpretation is my favorite. Very fluent, and very prettily played. Attractive speed too.

Forgive my typo. I meant rubato, of course.

Very well interpreted and played on such a difficult instrument. I loved your rubado. Congratulations on the photos too.

@mayflash67, it's from that book that I found out about this song, which I really like.
