tony atlas in his shoot interview backs up everything that Dr. D and Capt Lou said, if you were black and had the look you got the big push. White wrestlers had to be hard working, dependable, and tough, put the time in and pay their dues, and with a little luck thrown in made it to the top!!!!!!!

Morton Downey Jr. was a loud, foul mouthed, chain smoking, conservative talk show host. So much of wrestling today is obvious. Perhaps we as fans think we know everything, perhaps we assume to much, and perhaps we are actually correct in our assumptions. I cannot fathom that Vince, Trips and the rest of the brass sit around and contemplate ways to keep the white man happy while the black man dances. Mark Henry is the ECW Champion, Shelton Benjamin is the U.S. champion, Kofi Kingston is the Intercontinental champion...Booker T is a former six time World champion, the Rock had the WWE and Undisputed titles a combined 7 or 8 times - all those guys are now making ten times what these guys said they were making back then - I'd say we've come a long way, eh?

Mark Henry has been a competent monster since his 525th comeback, and he's a fairly credible ECW Champion
Shelton Benjamin is a great athlete, despite his frightening lack of charisma. He's getting another chance to get himself over.
Kingston is basically an enhanced version of Benjamin, and they're pushing him to see if he can make it work.

i wish someone could find the (probably)fox special from about 1997ish where a bunch of people took lie detector tests and captain lou was one of them. It was funny to see him still deny that wrestling is "fake" even though he failed the test, in classic captain lou fashion.

Lost in all of this is that Jim Wilson was really just preaching that he wanted wrestlers to form a union so that they had health care and could possibly not get screwed over by promoters throughout the industry. The problem was that everyone got caught up in what the promoter approached him with in Australia and just ignored what his real message was...for wrestler's to have a union.
