Call of Duty is a flash in the pan, zero imagination. PS3 1st party games are far better than games like black ops. I love black ops but I would play God or War or Heavy Rain ove black ops any day of the week. Its all about money and Sony is not throwing theirs away for DLC which will be a flash in the pan. I think their goals are much more long term on the software side.

Firstly, Sony do partner up with third parties for the PS.
Secondly, with the case of Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Microsoft MAY have made a contract with Infinity Ward that forbids them to deal with Sony.
Thirdly, Microsoft is worth more than Sony, hence why they spend a lot on exclusivity rights, partnerships, etcetera - whereas Sony have a more limited core of funds for the PlayStation brand.
Not to mention my blu-ray drive bit the dust on my PS3 that was less than 2 years old. Sony wanted $150 to repair it and never did send me a box for it. I just went and bought the $299 slim bundle. Sony should cover the drive for free considering it is their main selling point. If it wasn't for my friends on both systems I am not so sure if I would be a Sony fan this time around. I am still on the fence about whether I'll buy MAG.
ok 360 great system, but does it last with games (this year), cause as long Sony have a game of whatever 3rd party M$ have. It really doesn't matter, it all comes down to 1st party quality games by the end of the day. And of course this is where Sony shines.

Actually Sony is reaching out to 3rd party developers in regards to bundles. The problem is Sony is only reaching out to the developers in Japan - Konami, Koei, Sega, Capcom, Square Enix. There are a host of PS3 bundles listed at PlayAsia [Final Fantasy, RE5, Devil May Cry 4, MGS4, Gundam, Winning Eleven, LBP] for Japan. I could also mention the host of console colors available ONLY in Japan as well. U.S. PS3 fans have been asking for colors since the launch in '06. Sony is JPN 1st, world 2nd.

I agree with you sony does need to support third party developers in order to succeed over microsoft. Especially since sony didnt do any good decisions besides the exclusive games and the whole blu-ray n wifi. One thing that disappointed me is the backwards compadibility that they took it out especially since the sony ps2 had the most games during that time. The exclusives for sony are original especially uncharted 2 however the onine is no good compare to the xbox 360.
I'm sorry, but Sony doesn't have strong 3rd party support (right now) because they were working on being #1 in selling a reliable machine that did not overheat with 33% of it's customers, rather than trying to be #1 in 3rd party support. Patience Grasshopper, the PS3 will be #1 in about a year. If you knew you'd be #1 NOW or #1 in a year, which one would you choose? I'd choose the latter because the gloating would be all the more glorious.
Additionally, which of these games does Microsoft have? God of War 3, Infamous, Uncharted 2, Little Big Planet and Demon's Souls. They're all exclusive to Sony. Sony had the Batman Arkam DLC first and you can only play the joker on the ps3. Sony does NOT want to become a FPS console like xbox; it's trying to be ORIGINAL, not a copy cat. Let Microsoft be #1 in FPS. Sony will be #1 in everything else, including action/adventure games which (other than GTA) are non-existent on Microsoft.

Sony base there theme systems with PSP.... if u look there are all types of psp themes from starwars to god of war... so if the base that on there main system the Ps3 and maybe add more too it they could get something out of it... but.. its just a thought..
i think everything your saying is true. i do think Sony should support their third party developers more. but this is now. if you haven't noticed a shitload of developers are realizing the ps3's potential and making exclusive games. Like Rockstar North is making Agent a ps3 exclusive. i don't care for stuff like special bundles. i just care that Sony keeps them happy so they keep providing games for them. i would hate to have to buy a 360 just to play COD.

well it's most likely because Sony overestimated Microsoft and went ahead and made a next gen console that few would spend on Dev. as for devs, we all know devs try spend more time on Microsoft because they actually do get more money from them. since they themselfs prefer that console even though they know it does break down more frequent. but for them they can just get a new one when every they need it unlike us who have to pay.

no offense but I think you are giving a little too much credit to microsoft with this vid. This year has been horrible for the 360 with little to no exclusives , they brought out halo odst that lasts only 5 hours and had the nerve to charge $60 for it. Sony has been doing everything right in my opinion. They have the right price which so many people were complaining about and they have far superior games: Demon's Souls , Ratchet , U2 , and killzone 2 . Sony's lineup next year is far superior!

The only exclusive things for the 360 with modern warfare 2 is the xbox with all the graphics and the statue and night vision goggles, i mean its pretty cool but it wont make the game any better i bought the console to play games not so i can get free night vision goggles and i already have a 360 so im not goin to go out and buy another one just becouse it has the modern warfare 2 graphics on it. the only thing i care about is the ability to download the 1st call of duty and both have that. :)

Not really a big FPS fan, but i completely agree with what you're saying. I have a PS3 myself, personally I'm an RPG fan; So the PS3 was the way to go for me. Though right now most of the big JRPG games I need to import. Sony has always been more of an RPG/RTS type console. I can't wait for Demon's Soul, Resonance of Fate and Yakuza 3(localization). Though one thing I must say is that Microsoft definitely did something to get FFXIII, I can only imagine it being 3 discs like the old days.

You made some good points there, and I mostly agree. Although I think this is more of a SCEA thing, than a Sony thing. MW2's biigest market is in North America, proabably the 360 as well. I've seen a lot more supportt from SCEE and J, in theiir regions actually reaching out to the fans and consumers. Just look at the PS3s September Japanese sales.

I believe Sony is focusing their efforts on their 1st party developers so they can get the best quality out of them as possible. They don't really put as much effort into making sure 3rd party games favor their console over Microsoft because Sony is trying to build up a strong 1st party developer base instead of a 3rd party one.
Sony gives the kits to the developers, they even provide classes. The problem is lazy developers who dont want to learn anything new. Then you have M$ buying timed exclusives which is actually turning about to be a good thing for PS3 owners because the 360 users beta test them for us then PS3 eventually gets better the version.
The PS3's complex asymmetrical cpu is the problem, not microsoft. In hindsight it was a big mistake on the part of Sony not going for a symmetrical cell for the PS3. The result, delayed games on PS3, bad ports, and hardly any exclusives.
What is Sony doing? They are investing in their own 1st party, that's what.
There's some instances like with Batman Arkam Asylum where Sony did secure the Joker Exclusivity, and after the success of The Dark Knight, I'd say that was a pretty big deal for the PS3 version of the game.
Microsoft has little 1st party at all, so what else can they do but spend money on 3rd party?
Personally I think Sony is making the better investment by putting their main efforts into 1st and 2nd party games.

I agree with you for the most part but I think that the reason xbox tries their best for 3rd party is because Xbox isn't very creative with their first party sony actually opens up new studios for game xbox doesn't so they thrive on that 3rd party for games so they keep up withthe competition and mw2 is only 1 game and also The ps3 prestige version of mw2 sold out first before 360. Besides Sony doesn't really new too much 3rd party because their creative.

The thing killing sony's 3rd party is the huge microwallets for timed rights. I mean really if they want to toss millions away for a couple months to a year right let them. This really isn't that big of a deal when you look at all the games coming out 2010 and 2011 for the ps3 compared to what Microsoft has to offer, and on top of that there is rumor going around that developers are starting to take account to the Playstation motion controller and might start porting wii games over to the ps3, as far as maps and bundles are concerned, it really isn't a big deal, because we will have our games. And the bottom line is Sony is doing things right now.
There is a lot that can be said for either side. The ps3 has a lot more on the hardware end but is still lagging behind in software from third party like you said. I believe that MS pays for stuff like this but I would agree that SONY needs to do it too so they can fight back to try and get great exclusive titles on the PS3. SONY does have a lot more great first and second party titles but that won't get you very far without having a lock down on all parties. Great video can't wait for part 2!
also sony is starting to gain ground what with the AC2 content and the exclusive content that came with Batman AA. also ps3 launched two massive titles earlier this year with KZ2 and Infamous (something the other console hasn't done). so even if they aren't fully coming through with the third party they are delivering with massive first and second party titles. also please excuse the spelling errors
yo man I hear what your saying but you also have to realize that sony has the largest line up of fist party studios that they need to manage and work with etc. I mean they are pumping out great games like GOW 3 and GT5. they are working with second party developers like ND for a massive games like U2. sony defiantly needs to improve relations with their third party developers, but at the same time I don't see it being too much of an issue.

as far back as i can remember sony has never made a special edition of any system except for the psp special editions. xbox had the halo edition xbox original more recently the halo 3 editing and most recently the Modern Warfare 2 edition i just dont thing making special editions is Sony's thing. is that a bad choice on Sony's part probably. but i am a ps3 owner and personally i think a special adition is not really need i mean yeah they look kool and all but its just looks good it (1/2)

I have been a sony fanboy since day one. I have each console in the fat form as you can say. The thing i can say is lately since there are no big third party games for ps3. i only look forward to the sony exclusives. I wish there were big 3rd party games out there. I do have cod4 and guitar hero but thats it. I'm with you dlb i just wish sony would capitalize on this chance to make ps3 fans love our brand more, or even persuade new consumers to buy a ps3.
thing is that microsoft rely on the 3rd party exclusives like bundles and dlc etc. sony imo have so much games of so many genres that them not reaching out to 3rd parties isn't really a problem, at least not right now. when sony run out of exclusive games like Uncharted and GT5, then they should worry. it aint a problem now however.
i dont believe the MW2 360 bundle will sell so much, of course it will sell but 95% of the sales of MW2 will be the game only, either of the editions. so in that sense i dont really think its necessary to release a ps3 bundle, it wouldnt be a bad thing, but not necessary. but i do agree that sony needs to hop on the DLC train big time. all that timed exclusive xbox stuff really drives sales. basically, it means that people will get the 360 version of any game over ps3 if they have both

You have to think about it guys SONY is in control of alot more things not just playstation, they have their other subsidaries to think about aswell, meanwhile microsoft only have 2 things to think about their PC and 360 that is all. 360 does minor advertising sony does big like billboards, sports games events etc.

Once again 360 is gonna end up with a bunch of bonus maps and im gonna be playing at a mates house instead of in my home. Which compels my want to buy a 360. were faced with the question "which system should i get it for?" and the answers always 360, im just waiting for the decider to be which controller id rather play with.. ya know have a level playing field.
Also I doubt Sony will stay still, they have to know they wont always have the competitive edge. Also Sony just doesn't have the money so I guess they pick their battles, and if Microsoft is pushing more money than they can, Sony has to look for other to shine. I think thats why they focus on first party titles.
Sony does support third party developers but mostly through advertising. They don't pay for exclusivity. They will excange marketing cost for timed exclusivity but they'll never pay for exclusivity. That said, they also have some marketers that have no imagination, because they seem to have a fixed formula and they don't push for innovation aggressively. As for Sony and Activision, they don't get along so that may be a reason.
You have a very good point.. But I think that Sony is to confidant in Uncharted 2 that they were maybe thinking "Uncharted 2 Is Going To Be The Best". We all know Uncharted 2 is going to be good but what about the average Joe??? He won't have any idea what Uncharted 2 is at all. But the average Joe does know what Call Of Duty is. I say Sony should advertise the **** out of Uncharted 2 so the average Joe will know what the Uncharted series is.
I think sony were planning to ride the ps2 success, you know they were the king of the gaming world, where as Nintendo and MS had to step up to do well in the next gen.

Yeah, sony probably figures they have a beast of an exclusive line-up that they don't have to worry about this minor exclusive, because that's all the competition has besides Left4Dead2 and that $60 Halo Expansion pack that selled 2 million in it's first day or some crazy shit like that (all th halo fans went out and bought it first day, so I doubt we'll see steady, climbing sales).
Final Fantasy Console. Microsoft isn't the only one with an exclusive console and content from third party.
a great example is Fallout 3 DLC, broken Steel just released im gettin it tomorrow, but its so far behind xbox and pc. i have no hate for the xbox but it sucks that sony isn't payin attention to these major titles, grant it bethesda is also to blame for takin forever, but hopefully sony will start uppin this games in the game.

I put off buying a current-gen console until GTA IV came out, and the exclusive DLC was what ultimatrly tipped me in favor of the 360. Sony is a huge company with massive resources available to them; they COULD be more aggressive in working with third-party developers. As strong as their stable of first-party studios is, they need to use every trick that they can. Ultimitely, all gamers will benefit.

this is called ethics, if you have money it doesn't mean you got to push back others, which MS$ is doing, well if you free your mind and think for a minute is this a good trend to run gaming industry by money rather than quality? some people blame developer why they take money and put the fair completion to a aside, developers will work what they are paid for but it is what MS$ is doing, and or even if Sony does that it gonna eat my shit...

I agree with you, or at least partially, anyway.
Firstly, Sony do partner up with third parties for the PS.
Secondly, with the case of Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Microsoft MAY have made a contract with Infinity Ward that forbids them to deal with Sony.
Thirdly, Microsoft is worth more than Sony, hence why they spend a lot on exclusivity rights, partnerships, etcetera - whereas Sony have a more limited core of funds for the PlayStation brand.

Not to mention my blu-ray drive bit the dust on my PS3 that was less than 2 years old. Sony wanted $150 to repair it and never did send me a box for it. I just went and bought the $299 slim bundle. Sony should cover the drive for free considering it is their main selling point. If it wasn't for my friends on both systems I am not so sure if I would be a Sony fan this time around. I am still on the fence about whether I'll buy MAG.

Actually Sony is reaching out to 3rd party developers in regards to bundles. The problem is Sony is only reaching out to the developers in Japan - Konami, Koei, Sega, Capcom, Square Enix. There are a host of PS3 bundles listed at PlayAsia [Final Fantasy, RE5, Devil May Cry 4, MGS4, Gundam, Winning Eleven, LBP] for Japan. I could also mention the host of console colors available ONLY in Japan as well. U.S. PS3 fans have been asking for colors since the launch in '06. Sony is JPN 1st, world 2nd.

I agree with you sony does need to support third party developers in order to succeed over microsoft. Especially since sony didnt do any good decisions besides the exclusive games and the whole blu-ray n wifi. One thing that disappointed me is the backwards compadibility that they took it out especially since the sony ps2 had the most games during that time. The exclusives for sony are original especially uncharted 2 however the onine is no good compare to the xbox 360.

I'm sorry, but Sony doesn't have strong 3rd party support (right now) because they were working on being #1 in selling a reliable machine that did not overheat with 33% of it's customers, rather than trying to be #1 in 3rd party support. Patience Grasshopper, the PS3 will be #1 in about a year. If you knew you'd be #1 NOW or #1 in a year, which one would you choose? I'd choose the latter because the gloating would be all the more glorious.

Additionally, which of these games does Microsoft have? God of War 3, Infamous, Uncharted 2, Little Big Planet and Demon's Souls. They're all exclusive to Sony. Sony had the Batman Arkam DLC first and you can only play the joker on the ps3. Sony does NOT want to become a FPS console like xbox; it's trying to be ORIGINAL, not a copy cat. Let Microsoft be #1 in FPS. Sony will be #1 in everything else, including action/adventure games which (other than GTA) are non-existent on Microsoft.

Sony base there theme systems with PSP.... if u look there are all types of psp themes from starwars to god of war... so if the base that on there main system the Ps3 and maybe add more too it they could get something out of it... but.. its just a thought..

i think everything your saying is true. i do think Sony should support their third party developers more. but this is now. if you haven't noticed a shitload of developers are realizing the ps3's potential and making exclusive games. Like Rockstar North is making Agent a ps3 exclusive. i don't care for stuff like special bundles. i just care that Sony keeps them happy so they keep providing games for them. i would hate to have to buy a 360 just to play COD.

well it's most likely because Sony overestimated Microsoft and went ahead and made a next gen console that few would spend on Dev. as for devs, we all know devs try spend more time on Microsoft because they actually do get more money from them. since they themselfs prefer that console even though they know it does break down more frequent. but for them they can just get a new one when every they need it unlike us who have to pay.

no offense but I think you are giving a little too much credit to microsoft with this vid. This year has been horrible for the 360 with little to no exclusives , they brought out halo odst that lasts only 5 hours and had the nerve to charge $60 for it. Sony has been doing everything right in my opinion. They have the right price which so many people were complaining about and they have far superior games: Demon's Souls , Ratchet , U2 , and killzone 2 . Sony's lineup next year is far superior!

The only exclusive things for the 360 with modern warfare 2 is the xbox with all the graphics and the statue and night vision goggles, i mean its pretty cool but it wont make the game any better i bought the console to play games not so i can get free night vision goggles and i already have a 360 so im not goin to go out and buy another one just becouse it has the modern warfare 2 graphics on it. the only thing i care about is the ability to download the 1st call of duty and both have that. :)

Sony has done nothing wrong by not throughing money at these devvelopers most of them develop for the 360 first then port the game over leaving the PS3 version a little lacking. so fuck them show us some love and sony will show them some love. sony backs its first party developers. third parties favor microsoft because of the money,yes they put money in the developers pocket, and because it easy to develop for.

Not really a big FPS fan, but i completely agree with what you're saying. I have a PS3 myself, personally I'm an RPG fan; So the PS3 was the way to go for me. Though right now most of the big JRPG games I need to import. Sony has always been more of an RPG/RTS type console. I can't wait for Demon's Soul, Resonance of Fate and Yakuza 3(localization). Though one thing I must say is that Microsoft definitely did something to get FFXIII, I can only imagine it being 3 discs like the old days.

You made some good points there, and I mostly agree. Although I think this is more of a SCEA thing, than a Sony thing. MW2's biigest market is in North America, proabably the 360 as well. I've seen a lot more supportt from SCEE and J, in theiir regions actually reaching out to the fans and consumers. Just look at the PS3s September Japanese sales.

I believe Sony is focusing their efforts on their 1st party developers so they can get the best quality out of them as possible. They don't really put as much effort into making sure 3rd party games favor their console over Microsoft because Sony is trying to build up a strong 1st party developer base instead of a 3rd party one.

Sony gives the kits to the developers, they even provide classes. The problem is lazy developers who dont want to learn anything new. Then you have M$ buying timed exclusives which is actually turning about to be a good thing for PS3 owners because the 360 users beta test them for us then PS3 eventually gets better the version.

The PS3's complex asymmetrical cpu is the problem, not microsoft. In hindsight it was a big mistake on the part of Sony not going for a symmetrical cell for the PS3. The result, delayed games on PS3, bad ports, and hardly any exclusives.

What is Sony doing? They are investing in their own 1st party, that's what.
There's some instances like with Batman Arkam Asylum where Sony did secure the Joker Exclusivity, and after the success of The Dark Knight, I'd say that was a pretty big deal for the PS3 version of the game.
Microsoft has little 1st party at all, so what else can they do but spend money on 3rd party?
Personally I think Sony is making the better investment by putting their main efforts into 1st and 2nd party games.

This really isn't that big of a deal when you look at all the games coming out 2010 and 2011 for the ps3 compared to what Microsoft has to offer, and on top of that there is rumor going around that developers are starting to take account to the Playstation motion controller and might start porting wii games over to the ps3, as far as maps and bundles are concerned, it really isn't a big deal, because we will have our games. And the bottom line is Sony is doing things right now.

There is a lot that can be said for either side. The ps3 has a lot more on the hardware end but is still lagging behind in software from third party like you said. I believe that MS pays for stuff like this but I would agree that SONY needs to do it too so they can fight back to try and get great exclusive titles on the PS3. SONY does have a lot more great first and second party titles but that won't get you very far without having a lock down on all parties. Great video can't wait for part 2!

also sony is starting to gain ground what with the AC2 content and the exclusive content that came with Batman AA. also ps3 launched two massive titles earlier this year with KZ2 and Infamous (something the other console hasn't done). so even if they aren't fully coming through with the third party they are delivering with massive first and second party titles. also please excuse the spelling errors

I beleive that sony has got a long game in operation here though. While people are looking at the next few months and the amount of exclusives for 360 compared to ps3 and making judgment based on that (and MS knows this) Sony has got things up their sleeves we couldn't even speculate on, they have projects going that will take alot of ........

Sony isn't in a grand position to throw money around like Microsoft has, esp. since M$ gets a lot of money from big corporations who depend on their server software to give out to software companies as "incentives." if sony really wants to win this gen or even be right there with 360, they need to do things the microsoft way and take out the wallet. even though i dont like that method, it is smart and it obviously works so they definitely need to to score some exclusivity rights on some third party titles.

really does nothing for me theres nothing extra just a nice paint job and a extra controller i can buy one of them so thats not really a reason to buy it. what about when the next modern warfare comes out (if there is one) will i even care that i have a MW2 edition 360. the thing about ps3 not having one the ps3 already looks cool with the exception of the slim im not a big fan of it but maybe with the next big game to come out Sony will make a special edition we will have to wait and see (2/2)

as far back as i can remember sony has never made a special edition of any system except for the psp special editions. xbox had the halo edition xbox original more recently the halo 3 editing and most recently the Modern Warfare 2 edition i just dont thing making special editions is Sony's thing. is that a bad choice on Sony's part probably. but i am a ps3 owner and personally i think a special adition is not really need i mean yeah they look kool and all but its just looks good it (1/2)

dont get me wrong i like both consoles...but SONY fucked up with the ps3...A. made it come out late...B. didnt release it with good games to start out...C. made the system hard to develop for....D.haven't done anything about dedicated servers on games...if they fix that then PS will be on top again...until then the 360 has this generation

I have been a sony fanboy since day one. I have each console in the fat form as you can say. The thing i can say is lately since there are no big third party games for ps3. i only look forward to the sony exclusives. I wish there were big 3rd party games out there. I do have cod4 and guitar hero but thats it. I'm with you dlb i just wish sony would capitalize on this chance to make ps3 fans love our brand more, or even persuade new consumers to buy a ps3.

thing is that microsoft rely on the 3rd party exclusives like bundles and dlc etc. sony imo have so much games of so many genres that them not reaching out to 3rd parties isn't really a problem, at least not right now. when sony run out of exclusive games like Uncharted and GT5, then they should worry. it aint a problem now however.

i dont believe the MW2 360 bundle will sell so much, of course it will sell but 95% of the sales of MW2 will be the game only, either of the editions. so in that sense i dont really think its necessary to release a ps3 bundle, it wouldnt be a bad thing, but not necessary. but i do agree that sony needs to hop on the DLC train big time. all that timed exclusive xbox stuff really drives sales. basically, it means that people will get the 360 version of any game over ps3 if they have both

Am I the only one who thinks Modern Warfare 2 isn't that good i comparison to a lot of other shooters?
Killzone 2,Resistance 2,Unreal Tournament 3,MAG,Bioshock and Bioshock 2 are all FPS and are all either exclusive to or better on the Playstation 3.

You have to think about it guys SONY is in control of alot more things not just playstation, they have their other subsidaries to think about aswell, meanwhile microsoft only have 2 things to think about their PC and 360 that is all. 360 does minor advertising sony does big like billboards, sports games events etc.

Your spot on, exclusivity is a huge seller, MW2 is gonna be the most popular game out and it sucks that sony doesnt hunt this shit down. Once again 360 is gonna end up with a bunch of bonus maps and im gonna be playing at a mates house instead of in my home. Which compels my want to buy a 360. were faced with the question "which system should i get it for?" and the answers always 360, im just waiting for the decider to be which controller id rather play with.. ya know have a level playing field.

Also I doubt Sony will stay still, they have to know they wont always have the competitive edge. Also Sony just doesn't have the money so I guess they pick their battles, and if Microsoft is pushing more money than they can, Sony has to look for other to shine. I think thats why they focus on first party titles.

Sony does support third party developers but mostly through advertising. They don't pay for exclusivity. They will excange marketing cost for timed exclusivity but they'll never pay for exclusivity. That said, they also have some marketers that have no imagination, because they seem to have a fixed formula and they don't push for innovation aggressively. As for Sony and Activision, they don't get along so that may be a reason.

You have a very good point.. But I think that Sony is to confidant in Uncharted 2 that they were maybe thinking "Uncharted 2 Is Going To Be The Best". We all know Uncharted 2 is going to be good but what about the average Joe??? He won't have any idea what Uncharted 2 is at all. But the average Joe does know what Call Of Duty is. I say Sony should advertise the **** out of Uncharted 2 so the average Joe will know what the Uncharted series is.

I think sony were planning to ride the ps2 success, you know they were the king of the gaming world, where as Nintendo and MS had to step up to do well in the next gen.
Clearly the success of the ps2 didn't quite transfer to the ps3 yet, though i do think most people want a ps3 because they had a ps2, so on the long run maybe it'll work out for them.

I agree. I think the price drop was a HUGE deal, but if there isn't really any exclusive software or bundles with huge 3rd party gaming. I think Sony just focus too much on other media, and that is great. The thing is, it is a gaming system not something you are going to fill with pics or videos. That is what a computer is for (b^_^)b

Yeah, sony probably figures they have a beast of an exclusive line-up that they don't have to worry about this minor exclusive, because that's all the competition has besides Left4Dead2 and that $60 Halo Expansion pack that selled 2 million in it's first day or some crazy shit like that (all th halo fans went out and bought it first day, so I doubt we'll see steady, climbing sales).
Final Fantasy Console. Microsoft isn't the only one with an exclusive console and content from third party.

a great example is Fallout 3 DLC, broken Steel just released im gettin it tomorrow, but its so far behind xbox and pc. i have no hate for the xbox but it sucks that sony isn't payin attention to these major titles, grant it bethesda is also to blame for takin forever, but hopefully sony will start uppin this games in the game.

I put off buying a current-gen console until GTA IV came out, and the exclusive DLC was what ultimatrly tipped me in favor of the 360. Sony is a huge company with massive resources available to them; they COULD be more aggressive in working with third-party developers. As strong as their stable of first-party studios is, they need to use every trick that they can. Ultimitely, all gamers will benefit.
