Oh, what has happened to television? This was, and will always remain, brilliant. And Hall wasn't the only one convulsed with laughter; I recall this with great affection.
Congratulations to Stuart Hall or as he is known round our way....Lord Hall of Under Lyne :) a hugely overdue Order of the British Empire, we salute you sir :)
Love the way that Dougie takes out the German at 1.50 and the way that the poor German then just slides off. Stuart Hall had been out with members of the British team the night before for beers and Dougie was a straightlaced Dustman by occupation; having got to know Dougie a little bit, must have made it all that much funnier for SH.
Oh, crumbs. It's 1.49am and I'm almost wetting myself with laughter. Dear Stuart Hall - he certainly deserves a knighthood for services to entertainment.
I remember this sooo well, I was a little kid on holiday with my mum & dad in Dumfries. The whole lounge room in our B&B was laughing to the point of senselessness, not so much at the action but more Stuart Hall's side-splitting commentary. I'm just happy that I can still view it, via this opportunity, to this day.
We used to watch this during summer time, too, every week. A lot of laughs on both sides of the screen. In best memory are also the two judge men (I think one is from belgium). Pity that there is nothing compared to this again in todays TV program.
I see eight dislikes. How can anyone not enjoy this? I remember, as a kid, seeing it live, & being so doubled up in laughter that it hurt my stomach. It wasn't so much the action, it was Stuart Hall.
Do you remember crowding round the telly with the rest of the family, booing the cheating germans, cheering for other nations when it it was our turn to miss a round.
The memories of my Dad and me watching this with Stuart Hall's laugh was Hilarious! - Absolutely simple clean fun! - wish it was back - but Stuart Hall for me was genuinely brilliant!
Duggie what a man !!, & of course the laughing almost crying Stuart Hall who wet himself watching and commentating on this. If your ever down in the dumps about anything put this on and you`ll almost certainly start smiling.
@deathtoleftys Costs to staging broadcasters and declining numbers of viewers stop it - not 'health and safety nazis". Good fun while it lasted though.
@Mrphilharmonic dont know. But I thought the hideous existed only here in Portugal. Nowadays I just watch the news. Besides that is only stupid novels and reality shows. Portugal used to participate in Jeux Sans Frontieres and it was so awesome!!!
I am wondering why they stop this games, this is entertainment! not the kind of bullshit they put on television these days, they are so incompetents!!
Je me demande pourquoi on a arrêté d'organiser ce genre de jeux, c'est ca qu'on appelle émission pas la merde qu'on nous diffuse jour et nuit et qui est signe juste de leur imcompétence!!!!
This has to be the funniest clip on Youtube and brings back so many memories! I met Stuart Hall when we were filming an advert once and told him he was one of the happiest memories of my childhood, but thanks have to go out to you for posting it.
Absolute class.....you know they're going to fall over again and again but when it comes Hall's manic laughter, makes it achingly hilarious......brilliant stuff from a bygone era, when we had proper tv!!
Simply brilliant entertainment and television. Stuart Hall was just perfect for this. Such good memories. The teenagers running tv companies nowadays could learn a lot from this.
A totally brilliant clip, great memories from a 70s childhood. Makes todays telly look total CRAP, which of course it is. Never fails to reduce me to out loud stupid laughter. Happy days
One of the funniest things I think I have ever seen on TV, still laughing 35 years later !! This exemplifies why Stuart Hall was so perfect for this programme !!!
