Its time to kick ass and chew bubblegum and I am all out of gum! Jan must have thought when he saw Ari's car in front of him. He's got to have some major balls of steel. He could have won OVERALL that year after this stage he was THIRD OVERALL...never seen before for a truck.

Really by far the greatest sportsmoment ever!

So sad only few days later his teammate in the X2 had a major crash killing the navigator onboard X2. Jan/DAF pulled out immediately.

@Infynyte According to a book that was written about truck racer Jan de Rooy, Vattanen was hitting his steering wheel with his fist when he was passed by the truck. It must have been a great experience for the guys in the truck, though. Ari and Jan are very good friends, by the way. Jan towed Ari several times in the Dakar when he got stuck in the dunes, which garantueed one of Ari's wins in the rally.

@KennyC405 The Rally monster from Jan de Rooy which was used in de Paris-Dakar in 1988 was equipped with two 11.6 litre Engines, 500 HP each. The Truck had a top speed over the 200 KM/H. Today the rally has a top truck speed limit of 150 KM/H due to an accedent involving the 2nd of the team trucks that year .
