great fly, i will tye a cublle right away. i´m pretty sure it´s a good one for the put&take´s and coast here in denmark.. thx man great video..keep it on ;)
You could use chenille, but that somewhat defeats the design of the fly. By using the marabou as both the tail and the body, you use a single material. This also creates a slightly tapered body which is desirable in this fly. But experimentation with patterns is half the fun so try some chenille and see how you like it.
Buddy you are a better man than me to respond to the idiots who only want to criticize and have no legitimate point of discussion. This is an awesome fly. I have tied it in olive green, and black. I have caught trout, bass, bream and even a catfish on it. I appreciate your offerings here!
haven't you heard of dubbing if you'd dubbed you wouldn't have to have used that much marabbou you arent ment to tie in the stem of the feather anyway
Yes, I have regularly used dubbing. You can even make dubbing out of marabou feather. However, in this particular case, the twisted marabou gives a body that is different than you get with dubbing. The marabou gives a tight body with small bits of fluff sticking out (like gills) and does this making full use of a material, much of which would have been cut off and discarded. The leech patterns use this same technique of tying.
Dubbing caddis bodies with marabou is sick! Though I dont use the whole feather I trim the long fibers and use them like a chenille, once I tie in the ribbing I go back over the body with an old tooth brush to rough it up. Bro it looks sick in the water give it a try...it catches
Buddy I really do appreciate all your efforts on your videos! We're gonna have to sweet-talk you into joining in on some of our meetings and tie with us!!!
It's an olive green marabou feather. Always be sure to look closely at the marabou when you buy it - some packs are better than others. I've also used white, black, and orange marabou. Black works best after olive green.
I tried one in red once and didn't have much luck fishing for bass or bream. I haven't tried that color on trout yet. So far my best colors have been olive green, black, white, and then other colors.
I would definitely try the purple. And let me know what kind of success you have. I've nerver tried that color but may have to tie a few up just for fun.
thanks sounds good hey buy the way you should join my group its for fly tyers and fishers reply and if you want to be part of it tell me and ill send you an invite
I use the screw type because they didn't have the cam when I bought my griffin. Lot's of folks prefer the cam since it's quicker to set the hook. You can get a lot more torque on the hook too, but that may not be a good thing. I really think it's what you get used to but others may have different ideas. If I were buying today, I would probably get the cam version of the Montana Mongoose.
slammed them at the 4th crossing last summer with that fly, so easy thank you.

Good comment about the Damsel fly nymph. I'd use the fly as tied for a damsel.

I'm going to tie this, put shellback on the front of it, and trim the top of the hackle, and fish it as a damsel nymph.
Thanks, sir! rated 5 stars.
