if you want to choose only one side ... you have to click every face seperate...that way the other side doesn't get selected ... so left mouse click shift and choose your other face click etc ... or choose paint select

ps : click rightmouse on obj first choose paint select the choose faces then you can select the faces you want

hey maya 9 doesn't display dots no more

the orange color is all you get if you choose faces then paint selected, you can chosse the faces you want... without selecting the other side of the object...hope this helps you out ;)
