the fact that the dont tell you is that when it gets cold (not eating ice cream), but laying in the pack for some time.. it will break with almost no force applied.. get the titanium one
if your afraid of it breaking eating ice cream etc... watch the light my fire spork vs. forklift video. it never broke or bent, even a semi truck ran over it too. un-breakable.
I bought a pack of these. Red, Blue,Green, & Yellow. The red one I use at work everyday, to eat noodles, and soup. After two years of use, it's cracking just above the spoon part. The thermal stress of dipping it in the hot water is the cause. Now I brought the blue one to work to take it's place when it finally breaks.
I chuckled when I saw a review of a spork on youtube. But it's a really good review. Thanks.
I have one of these and it works fine. But I don't eat ice cream with it. I wouldn't cut meat with it either as I'm afraid the fork might break. But for its purpose, it's fine. Mine was only $1.99.
Took one of these on an 8 day solo canoe trip. Despite being brand new it was broken by day 3, snapped while I was wiping it clean. For the next 5 days I ate with a little nubbed fork and spoon. Wasn't thrilled in the slightest. It may have only been $2.50 CDN but it's crap.
I've got medium-sized hands, and this spork is definitely uncomfortable to hold. Also, +1 on the thin and far too flexible nature of these sporks. The times on the fork version break off far too easily. You shouldn't have to baby your eating utensil when you're hungry as Hell.
For those who like the basic design, do yourselves a favor; spend the extra on the Ti version.
Like you , I use my two Light My Fire Sporks for cooking etc etc. Thus far, in general, everyday use..................2 have snapped in the same place! Granted ,my friend got them cheap at Bangkok airport so I went to BCF and got a yellow one. Will see how it goes. Not impressed so far wih the 2 breakages. Maybe I got crazily unlucky and got two defective ones. As I say. Both broke in exactly the same place. See what happens with the yellow one.
Sir, I must admit you did a reasonable review of somethig really ordinary. I was expecting a joke or something even lighter. However, I can't agree with that you need utensils for eating. You can almost everywhere take two sticks and eat things more or less comfortably with it, just like half of the world does. No ice cream again.
Good review of the Light My Fire Spork. It's a good product, but like everything else it does have it's limitations. I think the main thing people need to realize about this product is that it's mainly intended for backpacking and backcountry eating, to be used with the types of food that backpackers would be carrying - mainly hearty stews, soups, dehydraded meals, MREs, etc. Not really meant for eating tough heavy foods, or things like ice cream. It performs for what it was intended for.
haha, meatloaf! So true. I just saw a survival recommendation video about that same spork just before this. I saw the length of the serrated edge and i doubt anyone, ANYONE would use that for anything EVER! They could put a metal spine in it to make it stronger, but also making it longer as you said would be ideal.
I don't like these either, the knife edge is a waste of time because you have to carry two of them, one to hold the food, one to cut. Used titanium cutlery can be found on ebay and it is worth the money because they last forever. The only reason I have one of these is because it came free with some titanium gear
They do make a longer one thats better for keeping your hands clean. It's also better for eating from a deeper pot or one of those freeze dried food bags. I've never tried to eat ice cream with one but I have managed to break 2 of them so far and I'm glad to see they are offering them in Ti now. I wish they would leave the knife part off because I think it's worthless for the reasons you mentioned. It can also cut your mouth if your a clumsy eater which I can be.
I call them SPORF's. but hey. So I microwave my ice cream so it works just fine for me. I was very interested to see how you were going to fill 6:30 min. on this but very well done. SPORF it up yum yum.
@jumpthemap you could also just eat soft icecream with it like vanilla Soft serve. then it wont break! after all a great review! i would prefer the plastic one on account that is less heavy and the airplane things.
@dneafsey trust me, your camping in the wild and the local farm is a dairy... not only free milk buut many now go into icecream......... hhhhmmm yum!!!!
I've used LMF-gear for some time and I can attest to the problem with using both ends of it. My hand always gets smeared, but the negative sides are outweight by the fact that it takes little space, is light and you can use it on teflon for our dear and oh so expensive cooking gear.
SPORF!

Haha, Good Point there.
I often use my outdoor gear around the house (tryin' to get my moneys worth).
Plus, when I'm traveling and using the hostel kitchen I sometimes like to grab the occasional dessert.

@jumpthemap a spork is a combination of a fork and a spoon. Therefore it is a spork - nife.

Because they are catering mostly to backpackers stainless steel probably would not create alot of profit for lmf.
