Thanks for putting it up. I actually played the synth on two of the tracks of this LP: the Chopin piece (the arpeggiated stuff), and a few sounds on the Superwoman arrangement. 'Been a while. Was living in Chicago then, and 'Tom Tom' called me up in the middle of the night for a session next day. Cool. - Mark Priest
This is the best version! Thank you for posting this. They used to play it on the smooth jazz station in Charlotte, NC back in the 90's when I lived there. Truly a timeless piece of music!
@MoosicandCritters Thx for the share Terri Jane. Like everyone says - this is a real winner of a song. I added it to my smooth jazz favorites playlist. My channel of 700 playlists is built through friends like you. I bet it's the biggest team effort on youtube!!! chuck
There are now three cuts of this I've heard; the old 60s version with the light French singing; this version (never could understand the singer, as a kid it sounded to me like "Everybody think about a shovel"), and another with less of a chill-groove sound that I think must have been between these two. Love all of 'em.
There was an older version that I heard and had when I was a radio dj in the 60's and thought the vocal was done Dionne Warwick, but turned out it was Minnie Ripperton... In any event, a terrific song and I still get chills when I hear it. Thanks for the post!
@jwmellott There is a 3rd version - his original from the Ramsey Lewis 1968 album "maiden voyage" which is posted on YouTube. I think Minnie Ripperton actually provides the backing vocals. Lets face it - it's just a CLASS piece of music.
drchaffee Don't ever rule out the original done on Minnie Riperton's debut album "Come to my Garden" from 1969 which Ramsey played piano and arranged by the late, great Charles Stepney.
Good gravy I need help. There was an older version of this song ... without the voices and all the orchestral bits ... I think it was live. We had it on 8 track back in the seventies. What album would that have been on??? Message me!!

I love his jazz show.
Unfortunately, there aren't many smooth jazz stations left to listen to.
None anywhere I go.
Are there two versions of this? 1983 and 1996?

it amazes me to hear a pianist compensate for a vocal and carry it off well this is one of those few occasions where it is done!
its the first time i have heard this i am not a jazz man but gotta say this is class

The album was "Maiden Voyage" A 60's vintage album. the background singers perform in french. A must have for any jazz enthusiast record collection.
