Yeshua was actually involved in a Jewish rebellion against Rome . Just a thought on the historical relevance though: If Jesus really was able to do the things the Bible says he did, (like feeding an army with only one bread, walk on water, curing blindness and cripples) wouldn't there be more information on the guy than just the Bible and a single line about a man called Jesus scribbled down by Plato? Every nation in that time would have wanted to capture and use him for their own ends...

Seeing as there is no historical reference to Jesus Christ except as written in the Bible I am very sceptical as to that he really existed as a person.

But in this scene I think they're more getting across what contempt the Pharisees have for the common people they're supposed to be guiding. It's a very hippie play so it makes sense for the authority figures to be insulting the young, visionary people. :)
