Let's disregard for the moment that the second and the third option seem to contradict each other. If he said all of it, why didn't all of it make it in to each gospel? Matthew says "My God.." were his last words, Luke says "Father, into..." were his last words, John says "It is finished." were his last words, and Mark is silent on the subject. Feraldarryl, I'm a Christian and I must agree. Christians should be optimistic in bad times, just like Eric Idle's song. Passion of the Christ just focuses on how he was tortured, when Jesus movies should be less morbid and focus on all the good things Jesus did and the things he taught.
Monty Python made a far more realistic, Christian, and just plain better film than Gibson could have ever dreamed even in his most drunken stupor (my explanation for the Passion)

Tell me something Iphone - how can the Gospels be trusted when they supposedly are all eyewitness accounts, yet can't even agree what Christ's last words were? Pick one: "It is finished." "Father into your hands, I commend my spirit." or "My God my God, why have you forsaken me?"

Let's disregard for the moment that the second and the third option seem to contradict each other. If he said all of it, why didn't all of it make it in to each gospel? Matthew says "My God.." were his last words, Luke says "Father, into..." were his last words, John says "It is finished." were his last words, and Mark is silent on the subject. Why do you get to conclude that he said all of it?

To unholyXromance: it is not admirable AT ALL to stand firmly by a belief in the face of strong evidence against it. It is the very definition of a delusion. Any child, any idiot, or any mad person can do that -- as a matter of fact, they often do.
This kind of undue respect for stupidity and insanity is precisely what Dawkins, Harris or Hitchens are trying to warn the public against.

The irony here is that Eric Idle's song, if you listen to it, is far closer to the ideals of Christianty than Mel Gibson's use of sickening gore to advance his own hateful and hurtful perversion of Christ's message. Romans are still persecuting the world, only now they're doing it masquerading as Christians

Feraldarryl, I'm a Christian and I must agree. Christians should be optimistic in bad times, just like Eric Idle's song. Passion of the Christ just focuses on how he was tortured, when Jesus movies should be less morbid and focus on all the good things Jesus did and the things he taught.

How naive you are. Now don't get me wrong I believe in Jesus, just not as a God. I believe he was killed etc etc etc, however having said that I must bring up the point that if you do your research, you will find that Jesus wasn't the only messiah at the time. There was one named appolious , his followers say, he healed the sick, raised the dead and was able to walk through wall, but wait it gets better. He got crucified, died; rose and ascended into the sky does this sound familiar to you?
