In september 1944 the lads of the King's Own Scottish Borderers stood against them in oosterbeek near Arnhem. They fought, they suffered and died on Dutch soil. Tha 'n eachdraidh du\inte. But we'll remember each year in september.
The Corries from Edinburgh, were Roy Williamson and Ronnie Brown. Roy Williamson wrote this famous Scottish Anthem. He sadly died in 1990, but his beautiful song will live forever!
Ah the 12th of March 1990, the day after my birthday. One of the happiest days of my life! Up from London with 3 English mates for the rugy. They were already wearing Grand Slam T-Shirts and were like their team over confident and complacent. Go David Sole, Gavin Hastings, John Jeffries, Finlay Calder, Gary Armstrong and all the rest of the team. You were awesome. My wee tribute to Wills and Kate.....don't forget the north of the country or it will bite you in the bum!
One of the happiest days of my life. Made the trip back home from London for the game with 3 English mates who were already wearing Grand Slam T-Shirts. Oh it was a good night on Rose Street and a very quiet trip back south for 3 of us!
I was lucky enough to be at this game wow we sent them home to think again the English were so arrogant they will never live this defeat down so so proud to be Scottish long live Flower of Scotland They the English will never learn Ireland 2011!!!

We must admit our common origin without false and destructive nationalism.Belgrade in Serbia had Celtic name, Venice in Italy originates from Celtic tribe Veneti, Switzerland is called Helvetia because it was inhabited by Celtic tribe Helveti etc. Throughout Europe!
My comments rely on proven facts (history, etymology). The unfortunate destiny of Celtic nation – tribes that once inhabited a vast area of Europe from Russia (river Don) to Great Britain. There is river Don in Scotland (Celtic goddess of river). I am proud that my capital had Celtic name:
Singidunum (Proto-Celtic: Singidun, is the name for the ancient city in Serbia which became Belgrade, the capital of Serbia
The fortification in the 3rd century BC of the Celtic tribe the Scordisci, who picked the strategic hilltop at the meeting of the two rivers as the basis for their habitation. It was 279 BC when the name Singidun was mentioned. The second part of the word is Celtic, dūn, meaning "lodgement, or fortress". This is also preserved in other place names; for instance, as "-don" in the name of London. For sing, it is a Celtic word for circle, hence "round fort".
Check "Newsnet Scotland" - the most unbiased news outlet site for the truth on Scotland, Scottish Independence, the rancid union, and the stuff that the BBC tried to cover up and wouldn't dare publish that Newsnet Scotland 'did' publish.
The history of Scotland is amazing. Mighty Roman Empire invaded England but had to build the wall across the Britain to protect themselves from the Scotts!
Let me mention just several inventions by the Scotts: TV, RADAR, EKG, MAGNETIC RESONANCE,ULTRASOUND, FIBEROPTIC, PENICILLIN, INSULIN, BETA BLOCKER DRUGS, THE FIRST ANAESTHESIA IN SURGERY, CLOUD CHAMBER FOR DETECTING ATOMS, etc, etc.
The population of only slightly over five million.
All manner of drugs have been tried with varying levels of sucess throughout history, but the chap who really got modern anesthetics up and running was an America dentist, William Morton, who popularised the use of ether. It is true that the Scot Robert Liston used ether in the UK in 1846, but that was in London, having been forced to leave Scotland after knocking down a fellow surgeon and other disagreements with his fellow medical men
Thank you for very valuable information about an anesthesiologist knocking off a surgeon. The hostility between those two inseparable professions still exists although it makes no sense at all. At least we know it existed from the very beginning! Another Scottish invention!
@I49SNEZANKA50 True, the Romans tried for 400 years to conquer Scotland, that's even longer than the English tried (1296-1603) and failed spectacularly.
By John Knox, the Scots were to be gods chosen people and Scotland was to become the new Jerusalem.
It was said by an experted American historian (no Scottish connection) that the modern world today is viewed through the eyes of Scots.
Winston Churchill said that no nation but Greece can beat the Scots in terms of contributions to mankind.
@I49SNEZANKA50 southern scotland population was never truly 100% gaelic.....spoke a language similiar to welsh.....gallowegian welsh/ cymbric but thats extinct,,,,and dont forget the picts spoke a language closer to welsh than gaelic.,,,,,,,my dad is gaelic ancestry and macfarlane highlander....so I totally respect those ppl and culture :)

oh well... you scotts could really be proud.. at least be proud to be proud!
in your stadiums the poeple sing the anthem, the players and all... full hearted.
in german stadiums at most 3-4 players know the lyrics of the anthem, and ev en the "stadium-singer" sometimes gets it wrong... sounds funny, and true: not much in younger german history to be proud of... but still.. makes me want to be more then a scot in haircolour, musictaste and soul. shit happens, born in the wrong country :(

Bloody hell, stop tarring the English under one brush, I am English but my parents are Scotch and Irish respectively, so how could I possibly hate any of you? Not every Englishman is the same as the rest.
the english r all the same start trouble or start a fight they canna finish i don't think there is any country out there who can actually say they like the english been attached 2 u gives scotland a bad name ur the most racist fuckers on the earth scotland luvs any 1 4 there culture but u hate them 4 it
Like I'm all for scottish independence! But I would NEVER laugh when a fellow human being has been killed in a war of any sort (Iraq or Afgahanistan). That soldier that you are laughing about is someones family member!
Alba gu brath! It's always a disappointment when I meet someone with a very Scottish name and then discover that they don't really care about their heritage. On the other hand, it's so beautiful to see a Scot who is proud of Scotland wherever they are in the world.
NorthWriter, I am of Scottish decent and was raised to honor and love Scotland. Though I am not afficially a Scot. In heart I am. and, I teach my son his roots.
is this how pathetic people can be were all fukin scotish and yet u still find something to argue aboot get a grip its pathetic were all from scotland people so be proud of it!!!!!!!!!com mon i scots
Listen, sometimes you have to make a living. Don't know about anyone else, but that doesn't mean my hame isn't still Scotland. I'll be back when my contract is over. A Scot is a Scot my way a looking at it.
This is the only anthem I ever heard which references a third country with the bitterness of the ex-servant who was maltreated by his master. It is deeply shaming to me to have this shite as my national anthem. I find it incredible there weren't more Scots who understood the inherent Uriah Heap quality to this dirge. It's a fucking national disgrace not a national anthem.
let us stand against David's army and send them home to think again.

And you'd think someone pedantically slagging someone off for their grammar would realise that Glasgow IS the largest city.

You would think someone trying to stand up for his nation would at least know how to properly spell the name of one of its largest cities.

How can you say that about a human being!
Like I'm all for scottish independence! But I would NEVER laugh when a fellow human being has been killed in a war of any sort (Iraq or Afgahanistan). That soldier that you are laughing about is someones family member!
How sick are you!

Alba gu brath! It's always a disappointment when I meet someone with a very Scottish name and then discover that they don't really care about their heritage. On the other hand, it's so beautiful to see a Scot who is proud of Scotland wherever they are in the world.

Listen, sometimes you have to make a living. Don't know about anyone else, but that doesn't mean my hame isn't still Scotland. I'll be back when my contract is over. A Scot is a Scot my way a looking at it.
And this is a great video of Flower of Scotland.

5million Scots live in Scotland.
Over 100million Scots live elsewhere in the world but we are all brothers and sisters.

"flower of Scotland" sung for the dregs of Scotland going by the comments on here.
Aberdeen, Rangers,Celtic blah blah blah.
"This country has no sense of itself, the nobles squabble with each other, clan fights clan"
As true today as it's ever been.
Scotland, The best small minded country in the world.
