  • Although I am Dutch and love the "Wilhelmus" ,this Flower of Scotland is probably one of the best National Anthems in the Word !!

  • Best national anthem ever.

  • The Corries from Edinburgh, were Roy Williamson and Ronnie Brown. Roy Williamson wrote this famous Scottish Anthem. He sadly died in 1990, but his beautiful song will live forever!

    André H. Hofman, Purmerend, Netherlands

  • Ah the 12th of March 1990, the day after my birthday. One of the happiest days of my life! Up from London with 3 English mates for the rugy. They were already wearing Grand Slam T-Shirts and were like their team over confident and complacent. Go David Sole, Gavin Hastings, John Jeffries, Finlay Calder, Gary Armstrong and all the rest of the team. You were awesome. My wee tribute to Wills and Kate.....don't forget the north of the country or it will bite you in the bum!

  • @truehighlander2 they are saxe coburg...what have they got to do with brythonic or godeilic cultures lol

  • One of the happiest days of my life. Made the trip back home from London for the game with 3 English mates who were already wearing Grand Slam T-Shirts. Oh it was a good night on Rose Street and a very quiet trip back south for 3 of us!

  • i love scotland from the song to our unbelievable support for whatever sport it may be it is unquestionable....i would support scotland even in my last breath at tiddlywinks im a true scot ..........and it hurts me to see us lose at anything.....

  • We must admit our common origin without false and destructive nationalism.Belgrade in Serbia had Celtic name, Venice in Italy originates from Celtic tribe Veneti, Switzerland is called Helvetia because it was inhabited by Celtic tribe Helveti etc. Throughout Europe!

  • My comments rely on proven facts (history, etymology). The unfortunate destiny of Celtic nation – tribes that once inhabited a vast area of Europe from Russia (river Don) to Great Britain. There is river Don in Scotland (Celtic goddess of river). I am proud that my capital had Celtic name:

Singidunum (Proto-Celtic: Singidun, is the name for the ancient city in Serbia which became Belgrade, the capital of Serbia

  • The fortification in the 3rd century BC of the Celtic tribe the Scordisci, who picked the strategic hilltop at the meeting of the two rivers as the basis for their habitation. It was 279 BC when the name Singidun was mentioned. The second part of the word is Celtic, dūn, meaning "lodgement, or fortress". This is also preserved in other place names; for instance, as "-don" in the name of London. For sing, it is a Celtic word for circle, hence "round fort".

  • Check "Newsnet Scotland" - the most unbiased news outlet site for the truth on Scotland, Scottish Independence, the rancid union, and the stuff that the BBC tried to cover up and wouldn't dare publish that Newsnet Scotland 'did' publish.

Newsnet Scotland, spread the word folks..

  • However my lassie in Scotland left me some years ago, I still love Scotland, Scots and scottish pride!

    Daniël, Haarlem, the Netherlands

  • The history of Scotland is amazing. Mighty Roman Empire invaded England but had to build the wall across the Britain to protect themselves from the Scotts!

Let me mention just several inventions by the Scotts: TV, RADAR, EKG, MAGNETIC RESONANCE,ULTRASOUND, FIBEROPTIC, PENICILLIN, INSULIN, BETA BLOCKER DRUGS, THE FIRST ANAESTHESIA IN SURGERY, CLOUD CHAMBER FOR DETECTING ATOMS, etc, etc.

The population of only slightly over five million.

The greatest nation in the World.

    Ivan, Serbia

  • @I49SNEZANKA50 "THE FIRST ANAESTHESIA IN SURGERY"

All manner of drugs have been tried with varying levels of sucess throughout history, but the chap who really got modern anesthetics up and running was an America dentist, William Morton, who popularised the use of ether. It is true that the Scot Robert Liston used ether in the UK in 1846, but that was in London, having been forced to leave Scotland after knocking down a fellow surgeon and other disagreements with his fellow medical men

  • @oarfrost

Thank you for very valuable information about an anesthesiologist knocking off a surgeon. The hostility between those two inseparable professions still exists although it makes no sense at all. At least we know it existed from the very beginning! Another Scottish invention!

  • @I49SNEZANKA50 True, the Romans tried for 400 years to conquer Scotland, that's even longer than the English tried (1296-1603) and failed spectacularly.

By John Knox, the Scots were to be gods chosen people and Scotland was to become the new Jerusalem.

It was said by an experted American historian (no Scottish connection) that the modern world today is viewed through the eyes of Scots.

Winston Churchill said that no nation but Greece can beat the Scots in terms of contributions to mankind.

  • FOR HOW LONG ARE WE TO WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO SING THIS SONG IN GAELIC ?

  • @I49SNEZANKA50 southern scotland population was never truly 100% gaelic.....spoke a language similiar to welsh.....gallowegian welsh/ cymbric but thats extinct,,,,and dont forget the picts spoke a language closer to welsh than gaelic.,,,,,,,my dad is gaelic ancestry and macfarlane highlander....so I totally respect those ppl and culture :)

  • Long live the Scots

  • Sadly, Scotland is in the hands of destructive unionists, who for no other reason but hatred will try and hold your country.

I lived in Scotland for 4 years and it is probably the most bigoted, hateful place I have ever been. So many ignorant, inhuman people.

  • @1unitedireland well I've lived here for 19 years and I could not disagree with you more.

  • @KelzRoze Mmmm, I can see his point though.

  • @1unitedireland "Sadly, Scotland is in the hands of destructive unionists, who for no other reason but hatred will try and hold your country.

I lived in Scotland for 4 years and it is probably the most bigoted, hateful place I have ever been. So many ignorant, inhuman people."

Ok, it is tough on Celtic supporters, but otherwise it isn't a bad old place.

  • @oarfrost I really don't understand your description of the most bigoted hateful place. As someone who has lived in scotland as a catholic (Celtic supporter) all my 40 years, only idiots are bigoted, you must be mixing in the wrong circles. There is a difference between banter and bigotry, you really can't understand only having been here for 4 years. Scotland is one of the most loved countries on earth!! And i married an English, Rangers Supporter so no i am not a bigot!

  • @Andsaca1 "I really don't understand your description of the most bigoted hateful place"

I was actually trying to wind up 1unitedireland, who was the one getting upset, In practise my experience of Scotland is largely confined to Edinbugh, so as you can imagine I hardly saw a Scot until I returned to England.

  • @oarfrost you don't know scotland like a scotsman any discrimination you met at you're stay was scottish humor english don't understand our superior humor.

  • @madhammy09 "english don't understand our superior humor."

That is possibly because the main language in Edinburgh appears to be a blend of Polish/Italian, rather like Bonnie Prince Charlie.

  • @1unitedireland ROFL!!!! I thought you were talking about Ireland there, maybe you were, you probably just didn't do very well at geography, hence why you mixed the countries up.

  • Very influencial

  • Just pass the word, and I'll bring our little US branch of Clan Scott, with banners flying. A Bellendaine! The Scotts are out!!

  • As a proud Welshman when a Love for Scotland - I look forward to the day both our countries are independent....

  • scotland gods land lets push for independance

  • I remember march 1990, as a Scot living in Twickenham, all I'd heard at work for two before the game was how England were going to win by about 100points. Went in on the monday and the only guy who would talk to me was from Ireland, and he'd come in on his day off just to enjoy the moment. I stapled a bit of paper with 17/3 written on to the back of the ringleaders jacket, he didn't find it for three days.

We all share a common ancestry, and a common problem!

    BRITS OUT!

  • @Hardcoresbwf what is the irony of the word Brit..the english elite corrupted it from its true meaning........from brythonic as in welsh and cornish (the original brit cultures) now clinging on in the west ;)

  • c'mon scotland,

    ALBA GU BRATH

  • great version

cmon Scotland in the 6 nations

    do us proud!

  • oh well... you scotts could really be proud.. at least be proud to be proud!

in your stadiums the poeple sing the anthem, the players and all... full hearted.

in german stadiums at most 3-4 players know the lyrics of the anthem, and ev en the "stadium-singer" sometimes gets it wrong... sounds funny, and true: not much in younger german history to be proud of... but still.. makes me want to be more then a scot in haircolour, musictaste and soul. shit happens, born in the wrong country :(

  • Cheer up - your football team is better than ours. I love this song and Caledonia.

I have just read the other comments - some people could start a fight in an empty room.

    Merry Christmas from Scotland.

  • only i don't go to footballmatches for the football... but for the athmosphere. if i want to see football, i can watch TV^^ if i want to feel the emotions of thousands, i go to the stadium. And then it is sad to see they can't even sing the anthem...

besides: flower of scotland is much more powerful and more beautifulthen our... well... our little song...

  • Don't put yourself down. Be proud of who you are!

  • Bloody hell, stop tarring the English under one brush, I am English but my parents are Scotch and Irish respectively, so how could I possibly hate any of you? Not every Englishman is the same as the rest.

  • Comment removed

  • Alba gu brath! It's always a disappointment when I meet someone with a very Scottish name and then discover that they don't really care about their heritage. On the other hand, it's so beautiful to see a Scot who is proud of Scotland wherever they are in the world.

  • NorthWriter, I am of Scottish decent and was raised to honor and love Scotland. Though I am not afficially a Scot. In heart I am. and, I teach my son his roots.
