  • Very good

  • thanks bert2009 and I agree with nik418 and MisspentYouth70 - those were the days when artists 'invented' themselves because they 'were' creative and didn't have the record company machine doing it.

  • @ShadyPastel What like the Monkees or the Beatles? They were manufactured, styled and sent out to make young girls scream. Poly is better cuz she's punk and didn't get there that way. nik18 has a good point tho, the majority of women in music are eye candy, but then, when weren't they?

  • The saxophonist looks a bit like Mark E Smith out of The Fall........it is'nt him of course.

  • Did they steal a riff from "Here Come the Double Deckers" ?

  • @sameysane, i heard she's half robot.

  • i heard she's half somalian

  • So in love with this. Thank you for posting it.

  • Brilliant, takes me back a few years. Poly was such a nice lady to talk to.

  • jUST AWESOME!!!

  • Punk goes mainstream Volume 5965: Pop Princess Cheryl Cole copies Poly Styrene's look for the launch of her new single on X Factor. Poly was the originator - so fabulous and ahead of her time. x

  • soon, she'll make me a lesbain. best band ever

  • her voice is like a saxaphone

  • Poly would be rejected by the modern day 'music society'. That's how good she is.

  • @MisspentYouth70 Oh man, fuck you.

  • @MisspentYouth70 yes, she would be. any band that makes classic sounding punk rock gets rejected. like my fucking band! love x ray spex.... fuck society!

  • @andywarstarforever great post!!!!!!!!!!! thank you

  • i'm into plastic, i consume, i discard, i'm influenced by advertising, i'm a poseur,i pollute the earth, i get it, do you ?

  • One of the first punk songs I ever heard. I love it and I love this band.

  • Out of context maybe, and a little background info about me: I was 9 years old if this is 1977 and not aware at all of 'punk' music and in America, be that as it may the lines: Warrior in Woolworth's His roots are in today Doesn't know no history He threw the past away It seems one doesn't have to know rock n roll history, I could be wrong about this.

  • Your point being...?

  • Don't worry about it.

  • Well, I' m not worried. Just confused.

  • Like I said, I would have been 8 or 9 years old in California and wasn't, like my peers, aware of the 'punk' rock all I'm saying is that, for me, it's important to know as much of the past as possible, the lines 'his roots are in today, doesn't know no history, he threw the past away' I will never ever believe in this sentiment, though I like the song.

  • Ok, mate. Copy that. Sorry.

It is possible to throw the past away though.

  • That's alright, I get that that's your point of view, but knowing of the past is essential. JMO

  • Absolutely..

  • @Khultan + ZLUGGO

    ...for what it's worth,

"rebel on the underground" a double (dub!?) meaning, the London subway-train system 'the underground' (also 'tube')

"rebel of the modern town", the post WW2 'new town' suburbs of London

"no history/threw the past away" no knowledge of 'history' condems you to repeat the past

Also, young male gang fights (racial tensions)

    ......happy daze ??

    pce

  • @hearNyou thanks, HearNyou.

  • @ hearNyou - all true, but I think "threw the past away" refers also to those who planned and built the new towns, the 'post-war dream' and all that..

  • Excellent vid

  • warriahhhhh warri warri ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

    love poly!

  • Her voice damn near makes me cry. Every time! One of the best ever.

  • love ittxxxxxxxxxxx

  • never thought i would see this again brill

  • Thanks to find this ! Not such a bad quality aft. all... We missed this video ! She was great and so her band.

  • Ah - the days when women in pop actually had talent and something to say rather than just being vacuous semi-pornographic eye-candy.

  • dude it was the same bullshit back then, Poly was a rebel then and that's (in part) why this rules

  • @nik418 I mean, they're a punk band, but what ever...

  • @nik418 Well said. This was " Do it yourself " days. And she wrote her own stuff at 16 years of age!

  • @nik418 Poly is loverly eye candy.... she is ace...

  • @nik418 Happening in Great Britain now?!?

  • @Khultan not

  • A snappy Ric on the bottom - unusual and cool, just like everything else about this band.

    - Brother Ron

  • Love this band. :)

  • shes the cooolest

  • she is :)

  • Thank you.One of my fav bands.

  • hey thanks!!!
