What you said in this vlog is exactly what I have defined audism in my lectures in Germany. Like you, I emphasized the overvalueing the sense of hearing and ability to speak as practiced on deaf and hard-of-hearing persons. Later you explained something that I also used there what I call "relativization of the value of Hearing and speech". This is to establish in a society as the norm of behavior toward deaf people is to be a goal of anti-audism (efforts to reduce audism).

I have to admit that I was one of those folks who dissected and butchered the term "audism" to the point where it became meaningless. Went beyond the black and white of it all and got lost into the gray areas. Got myself more bewildered and confused.

Plain and simple, audism is real. I learned the hard way after facing it head on...the rug yanked out beneath me and left me fending for myself and my family. It exists and it is cruel. No better word for it.

U know. Some people LIKE to continue to dissect the word "audism" beyond the simplication. Some people like to expand the horizon more to garner more knowledge that was hidden in the crannies and nookies of audism. Some people may be satisified with just the simple definition you gave but for some, they wanted to dig more.

I understand your frustration that the topic have carried around for so long.

You simplified it way too much. :) You forget the deaf people who practice audism... they can't hear, but still practice it anyway for some reason (even when they deny it). They're worse than the hearing people, in my opinion.

There has been more discussions about audism taking place lately. It involves any persons who practice audism by viewing that speaking and hearing are superior than those who use signs. Let it be that audism is published in the dictionary in 2010 and that there will be Deaf blog aggregators recognize audism like racism and sexism in the guidelines!

LOLZ.. i am 14 and deaf. also, i am in football team in HS.. Hearing not depend on me but i notice hearing lazy to play. i was confuess cuz i feel better tghan them. one time hearing let me play in 4 Quarter and 5 min left. we behind 3 point.. i play def line..i watch ball move then i run fast and dodge through off line and i tackle QB very hard and he drop ball and i get and carry it to touchdown... wow.. good time... i want know about how deaf people work with hearing in job?? ASL is rich..

not bad but agree with someone abt audism didnt approval yet. suggest you that ASL always stay to teaching anywhere as you can do it but not even say a word of "audism" becuz of bad negative. pls dont think abt if hearing people make deaf people feeling down or lost.
