im buying a hd 5570 but i dont know if i should upgrade the ram memory only have 2gb and intel core 2 quad and windows 7 ultimate is that true, that u can run gta smoother when not recording with fraps?
FRAPS is a giant frame whore and I could run the game just fine without it when I made this video.
Also remember that this video is three years old and the game has been updated a lot since and performs hugely better than the buggy release version you see here.
And yes, do upgrade your RAM. 3Gb (imo) is the minimum for modern gaming, but I would recommend 4Gb.
First what graphics card and processor do you have and yes 3GB should run a lot smother, just a side note in case remember about 32-bit only supporting up to 3GB memory
I had this cpu before i bought a 965Be 125W and watercooling. It runs at 40-60fps at highest settings I can get with a 1gb 4850. You can overclock the 965 like hell if you want to, got mine to 4.1Ghz stable, but runns it at stock 3.4 because my videocard is a bottleneck anyway :P
same here? do you know anyway on how to get the fps more stable because it drops during gameplay and goes back up and down ive overclocked mine to 3.3ghz, and am using the same gfx card and settings as you but 4GB of DDR2 800 Ram..
but i have view, detail, vehicle density all to 8? and shadow off.. i get 16-25 fps average but at less intensive areas i get 30-50..
Patch the game, update your drivers, not much else you can do. It's very stable for me and pretty smooth aswell. Other than that you might have to start tuning settings (view/detail distance at first, keep high textures and turn everything else slightly down so the game will still look good).
well its just that some people say its not going to play them @ max and others are. and its my first build so i want to make sure because im only 15 and this is going to cost £485 which is alot so i want to make sure i am making the right decision.
also other people say i should buy quad core. which i have found 2.6 ghz amd quad core but for £20 more which will push the cost up to £500+
is it worth it to get 2.6ghz quad or should i stay with 3.0 ghz dual? is quad core alot better?
Quad will get you some performance boost depending on the game. Some support quad, some don't. GTAIV has support as far as I know. With the GPU I'm not entirely sure about getting a 1Gb VRAM card, it might end up holding too much data for 3.0GHz dual to handle.
dude! im allmost exactly like you lol im making my firstbuild and im 14 :) i recommend the CPU to be a AMD Phenom II 550 BE (black edition) as its got great review and there a chance you coul unlock cores!! (eg cheaper quad core) its worth a look honestly good luck with the build. :)
You overclocked the Graphic card? Because i have the exact same one. Did you do it trough the program that followed and how hot is it ? any extra fans ?
your graphic card is a pretty good one .. will handle it like nothing .. but your cpu slows it all down ... i've had the 6000+ and a hd4670 .. i lagged like hell ! then i bought a phenom II x4 955 and guess what ... it runns faster than a kid after his ball ! now i have the Asus eha4850 matrix .. i tell you what .. everything maxed out and no lagg anymore ! .. trust me save your money and go buy a phenom II .. you wont be disappointet !!!
I know my CPU is old-ish, but it hardly matters because the game runs just fine on near max settings. It's only lagging in this video because of....*dun dun duuuun*......FRAPS.
Remember, this video was recorded shortly after launch on unpatched 1.0.0 which was extremely buggy and had memory leaks and whatever. It's running nice and smooth nowadays. I really gotta make that cam vid to show how it runs without recording programs slowing it down.
I thought the HD4850 was suppose to be better than the GeForce 9800GT in alot of games? This is lagging quite badly even though your components are good, check out my vids if you want to see an example...
It's only lagging because of FRAPS, how many times do I have to state this, I can run the game maxed out on very playable fps (excluding dynamic shadows) with the latest patch. I'd make another video if I had a proper camera (and webcams don't count because recording with those lags the game all the same).
x360 graphics are roughly the equivalent of medium settings on the PC version. This was stated by R* themselfs so there is no need to compare the two. The only thing actually better in the 360 version is AA, and that is only because AA and HDR don't work together in dx10, and x360 is using a modified dx9c.
also this was recorded with vanilla install, no patches applied (as far as I remember at least)....it's running waaay better with 1.0.3.0 and I was able to up all settings to at least high. FRAPS makes the fps look horrible thought so I won't make another video untill I find a better recording program.
well my cpu which is a core 2 quad extreme even with video enconding in the background and video recording it can run a thousand times better than this go get a better cpu your computer is fucked out old.
hah, someone has ego issues. I only upgrade my computer when necessary (that is when I can't run the games I want on decent settings), and as I have stated multiple times before, I can run the game just fine. FRAPS lags the shit out of videos, and without it the fps is steady and playable at 25-30 ( even better post-1.0.3.0). I play the game at all settings on "high" and render detail on "highest".
Sounds like you have an integrated display card. That basically kills all hopes of even running the game. Get an ATI 3870 or higher, and upgrade your CPU to prevent bottlenecking the video card. Your RAM is okay, but that's about it.
I think you should be able to run the game with a GPU upgrade alone thought, don't expect great fps thought.
I run the game on my macbook pro - but something is strange:
med. details, - 800*600 about 30fps but any other resolution is constant at 22fps. That means that from 1024*748 until 1440*990 the framerate is constant at 17-22fps which is annoying and strange.
P.s. I've got the 2,6ghz c2d model Win7 rc 64bit with 4gb Ram and a 512mb Nvidia geforce 8600m Gt.
But: GTA 4 works fluently on my 1 1/2 year old laptop!!!
And Crysis too - but GTA 4 kills the GPU far more.
GTA4 is actually heavier than Crysis, so that's hardly surprising. Also 8600GT is an old, old card, upgrade it. Your CPU is "okay", so the game is running better than I'd expect to be honest.
Myes, I know. The thing with macs is that you can usually find a PC with equal or better hardware for a lot less, and the OS is not really usefull unless you're a professional graphics editor. Spare time picture or video editing can be easily accomplished on other OS's, without paying extra for the apple logo.
Yeah, patch 1.0.3.0 improved my performance massively. I can run the game pretty much maxed out with good framerates, but when I tried to make another video, FRAPS totally murdered the fps and I decided it was not worth uploading.
Update drivers, install the latest patch....umm, maybe get more ram? I don't know what else you could do really besides a fresh install of windows. Your processor could also be the bottleneck since GTAIV is a huge CPU hog.
hey i have amd 5200+ oced to 3ghz palit 9800gtx+ 512 gddr3 and 4 gb ddr2 800 dual channel ram, i wanna play this game on 1680 x 1050 with high, is that possible for good framerates?
You can't play it on high because the game requires 1Gb VRAM for high textures. Just settle for medium like everyone else and be happy with what you get.
I play on medium settings too, I just made this video with high settings to show how it runs.
Medium is pretty much equal to the the console versions (more accurately the PS3 version). With your setup I would assume something like 35-30 stable with ups and downs of 40 to 20 fps.
I'm obviously not a super computer thought. That's just my best guess. This game has a history of performing differently for each user so make sure your OS is alright, drivers updated etc.
You can set everything on high, but you sure as hell can't play on those settings. It might run, but the fps would something like 10-15 or less and you'd get rendering errors.
Also you don't need to make a freakin' text file, just create a shortcut and add the command on the target field.
(The game does look hella awesome if you set textures on high and reduce other settings thought)
CPU? Also you're running it on a dual-GPU setup which is always a bit different.
My friend is running the game on a single 3870 and he can't even go all settings medium, and he has a new c2d CPU. In any case I find your statement rather improbable.
Also if you'd care to tell me how you got that resolution, I can't get past 1280x1024.
Your processor is fine, but you REALLY gotta ditch that workstation card. Quadro FX is NOT meant for gaming, and it doesn't have nearly enough VRAM for this game. Get a new video card and possibly more RAM and you're good to go.
well, I've never played GTA4, but on other games/programs it doesn't affect it as much as hypercam and camstudio do. fraps works good for me, even on my computer (1.8ghz, 512M RAM, 64M GFX), so that's why I use it so often.
Yeah well it really depends on what kind of game you're running...I mean FRAPS doesn't cause any problems while playing say, HL2, but GTA4 is a whole diffent story.
Fraps kinda sucks for recording. It has a massive hit on your fps like you can clearly see from this video. Gamecam etc. are better, but I couldn't bother getting any of those for a short video =P
how did u get that blurr effect any idea how it will run on core i7 920 285 gtxx black edition corsair dominatoir 3 gb ddr3 1600 mhz i heard 3 gb is bad
It's, you know...blur? In GTAIV the effect is more accurately depth of field, with the distance 'blurred' to mimic the human range of sight....I don't know how to explain this to you if you don't know what blur means, it's a word, not a term for poop's sakes.
Myeah, I mean Phenom 9950 is a quad and this game relies heavily on the processor (new physics engine and whatnot). I think you can run it just as well and probably even better.
I have an AMD 6000+ Brisbane, Geforce 9600GT 512mb, 4 gb of ram, and XP 32 bit. This game runs like crap unless I disconnect from the net, do not log into rockstar social, do not log onto windows live, and keep all settings on medium.
Even then, the game will run smooth for a while, then get choppy, stutter, and freeze up.
There's a memory leak in the game engine. It will be fixed by Rockstar in future patches. Untill then there's not much you can do, except play the waiting game.
I removed the OS war comments previously posted here, and archived it because it was some funny shit. All future immature comments regarding my chosen operating system will be removed. That is all.
Very. If you lower the texture settings and render detail a bit it will run great and with no slowdowns whatsoever (While still looking better than the 360/PS3 versions).
It's an okay CPU, it can run most current games with smooth framerates and high settings. Gets a little choppy with Crysis, runs maxed out with playable fps thought. Go for a newer model if you have the cash thought.
I'd say no, for most games. 512Mb is enough for pretty much everything, GTA4 seems to run slightly better with 1Gb VRAM, but I don't think spending extra money for just one game is really worth it.
Nice video. I have HD4850 too (625/1000 freq). I play GTA IV on Texture: Medium, Render Detail: High at ~25 fps on a AMD x2 4000+ (OC at 2.6 Mhz) and 2 GB RAM.
Club 3D. I'm happy with it, makes almost no sound whatsoever even with the big-ass fan and can run Crysis all maxed out with acceptable frame rates (I'm not saying it's 100% smooth sailing, but playable).
You can install the last Update For gta iv and, the fps is going UP

hey i have amd 5200+ oced to 3ghz palit 9800gtx+ 512 gddr3 and 4 gb ddr2 800 dual channel ram, i wanna play this game on 1680 x 1050 with high, is that possible for good framerates?
chenzi1234 3 years ago
You can't play it on high because the game requires 1Gb VRAM for high textures. Just settle for medium like everyone else and be happy with what you get.
I play on medium settings too, I just made this video with high settings to show how it runs.
Zestence 3 years ago
thx for the advice, btw is medium and high a big difference in visual quality and if i put on medium what would be some of the possible fps i'll get?
chenzi1234 3 years ago
Medium is pretty much equal to the the console versions (more accurately the PS3 version). With your setup I would assume something like 35-30 stable with ups and downs of 40 to 20 fps.
Zestence 3 years ago
wow, thx dude! =D
chenzi1234 3 years ago
I'm obviously not a super computer thought. That's just my best guess. This game has a history of performing differently for each user so make sure your OS is alright, drivers updated etc.
Zestence 3 years ago
Just open new txt file and write -norestrictions save it in GTA 4 directory named it commandline.
And you gan play everything set on High with 512mb VRAM...
JunkieMan4 2 years ago
You can set everything on high, but you sure as hell can't play on those settings. It might run, but the fps would something like 10-15 or less and you'd get rendering errors.
Also you don't need to make a freakin' text file, just create a shortcut and add the command on the target field.
(The game does look hella awesome if you set textures on high and reduce other settings thought)
Zestence 2 years ago
Nope I`m with HD3870 X2 1600X1200 everything on High getting about 30-35fps and its full playable:-)
JunkieMan4 2 years ago
I meant chenzi1234's settings.
About your setup thought....
CPU? Also you're running it on a dual-GPU setup which is always a bit different.
My friend is running the game on a single 3870 and he can't even go all settings medium, and he has a new c2d CPU. In any case I find your statement rather improbable.
Also if you'd care to tell me how you got that resolution, I can't get past 1280x1024.

please some ne help can i run gta 4 on this pc
2 intel zeon quadcore 3.4 ghz
2gb ddr2 ram
128 mb nvidia quadro fx 1400
yuvinmw 3 years ago
Your processor is fine, but you REALLY gotta ditch that workstation card. Quadro FX is NOT meant for gaming, and it doesn't have nearly enough VRAM for this game. Get a new video card and possibly more RAM and you're good to go.
Zestence 3 years ago
well, I've never played GTA4, but on other games/programs it doesn't affect it as much as hypercam and camstudio do. fraps works good for me, even on my computer (1.8ghz, 512M RAM, 64M GFX), so that's why I use it so often.
DMSOG 3 years ago
Yeah well it really depends on what kind of game you're running...I mean FRAPS doesn't cause any problems while playing say, HL2, but GTA4 is a whole diffent story.
Zestence 3 years ago
graphics lok great but u should really register fraps.
DMSOG 3 years ago
Fraps kinda sucks for recording. It has a massive hit on your fps like you can clearly see from this video. Gamecam etc. are better, but I couldn't bother getting any of those for a short video =P
Zestence 3 years ago
how did u get that blurr effect any idea how it will run on core i7 920 285 gtxx black edition corsair dominatoir 3 gb ddr3 1600 mhz i heard 3 gb is bad
taltigolt 3 years ago
It will run just fine. You get the blur effect by pressing 'p' on your keyboard.
Zestence 3 years ago
what is blur effect?(i really dont know)..
maric003 3 years ago
It's, you know...blur? In GTAIV the effect is more accurately depth of field, with the distance 'blurred' to mimic the human range of sight....I don't know how to explain this to you if you don't know what blur means, it's a word, not a term for poop's sakes.

Can i run gta 4 with my com i have 2 ghz amd athlon x2 , 3 gt ram, ati radeon hd 3450 512 mb? pleeeease reply i really wanna know!!!
Rbbto123 3 years ago
yes
cazastudios 3 years ago
Yeah you can, I've seen this game running on a 3870 256 with smooth framerates. I'd say you can run it smoothly on medium range settings.
Zestence 3 years ago
woow nice man. i have same comp as u but i got a amd phenom 9950 2.6 ghz. do u think i can run this game like u?
xxpoonednoobxx 3 years ago
Myeah, I mean Phenom 9950 is a quad and this game relies heavily on the processor (new physics engine and whatnot). I think you can run it just as well and probably even better.

i have nearly exactly the same sys
amd 64 x2 6000+
4gb ram
hd4850 512mb
vista ulti 32bit
but i never get over 20 FPS no matter which graphic settings i use =((
oOmunirOo 3 years ago
I have an AMD 6000+ Brisbane, Geforce 9600GT 512mb, 4 gb of ram, and XP 32 bit. This game runs like crap unless I disconnect from the net, do not log into rockstar social, do not log onto windows live, and keep all settings on medium.
Even then, the game will run smooth for a while, then get choppy, stutter, and freeze up.
ironroad18 3 years ago
There's a memory leak in the game engine. It will be fixed by Rockstar in future patches. Untill then there's not much you can do, except play the waiting game.
Zestence 3 years ago
I removed the OS war comments previously posted here, and archived it because it was some funny shit. All future immature comments regarding my chosen operating system will be removed. That is all.
Zestence 3 years ago
is it playable without fraps. cause i got almost same system specs.
Cr1Tic4L 3 years ago
Very. If you lower the texture settings and render detail a bit it will run great and with no slowdowns whatsoever (While still looking better than the 360/PS3 versions).

nice vid man, im getting the 4870 1gb, i cant wait to play this game!
pcandcargeek28 3 years ago
Mate, is this CPU any good, i am looking at buying a PC but dont want to buy it unless this CPU is good
ephenix123 3 years ago
It's an okay CPU, it can run most current games with smooth framerates and high settings. Gets a little choppy with Crysis, runs maxed out with playable fps thought. Go for a newer model if you have the cash thought.
Zestence 3 years ago
im about to buy the oc'ed version with one gigabyte of ram, is it worth it to buy the one with 1gb?
147258166 3 years ago
I'd say no, for most games. 512Mb is enough for pretty much everything, GTA4 seems to run slightly better with 1Gb VRAM, but I don't think spending extra money for just one game is really worth it.
Zestence 3 years ago
Very nice System an Video 5*
TaxBX 3 years ago
And this iswhy video games rule, they allow you to do shit that you could never get away with in real life. XD
SteelCity1981 3 years ago
Exactly, that's why GTA series is awesome. Rockstar never ceases to amaze me, they put a lot of time into each game and it shows.
Zestence 3 years ago
Nice video. I have HD4850 too (625/1000 freq). I play GTA IV on Texture: Medium, Render Detail: High at ~25 fps on a AMD x2 4000+ (OC at 2.6 Mhz) and 2 GB RAM.
dmny92 3 years ago
From which manufacturer is your HD4850? are you content with your HD4850? Is it quiet?
MlCHl20 3 years ago
Club 3D. I'm happy with it, makes almost no sound whatsoever even with the big-ass fan and can run Crysis all maxed out with acceptable frame rates (I'm not saying it's 100% smooth sailing, but playable).
Zestence 3 years ago
Just a quick note, I have the OC-edition of the HD4850, it performs slightly better than the standard edition and has a larger fan.
Zestence 3 years ago
Good ;)
