Coming from a Sheriff Explorer, this Cop's story is bullshit. I'm a huge supporter of police and he had an okay reason to shoot but he could have just used his taser. Theres a slight difference between a gun and a taser and theyre easy to get confused with, and when I did the taser practice they never told me to yell "TASER TASER TASER!"

BART had no policy on where to put the taser, Mehserle had only received a taser that week, BART only had them for about 2 weeks, and he had almost no training on taser whatsoever. There is not a huge difference as you maintain. The M26 taser he had has a black rubberized handle, exactly like his sig sauer .40. The weight difference is less than a pound, easy to confuse when you are in a panic, as Mehserle was.

Im so tired of the "modern minority" society using the race card. They are the reason that racism continues to be an "issue" in modern society. Sure sometimes get treated unfairly, and guess what, in a society where mixed races all live together often times a cop of one race will shoot or smack down a suspect of a different race! But for any one race to say that they continue to be "held down by the man" is absolutely ridiculous! Let it go people or it will never die!

With all due respect shmoopify, I was as ignorant as you once upon a time, thinking along those "very" same thought. Now after 40 years and befriending a black sheriff deputy, I have seen the light... thus, now pose a different view. In other words, I "was" bias for law inforcement. Now, I keep both sides open. Needless to say, even black or minority officers ALSO deal with some prejudice within their OWN dept all across the U.S. Your only in denial if you dont believe it's true.. Best regards.

@kikaida395 I'm not sure why you went off like that. I never said anything about black officers not facing prejudice in their depts. I'm sure that exists to some degree in every job. I was referring to the way the communities react to certain things. Black communities seem to riot when they feel injustice has been done to them. When a white San Jose Police officer was shot by a black guy 8-9 yrs ago and didnt get the death penalty as he should have, where were the riots??

Why is it the black community is so unwilling to believe that it could have been a mistake? It's obvious to me if this officer was "hell bent" on killing a black man, he would have done it in a bit more secretive fashion, not in front of a group of on lookers! Come on people, use your heads!  Another thing; Why is it that the white community doesn't riot when a black man kills a white cop in REAL cold blooded murder? Yet Oakland is preparing for riots.....someone explain plz?
