  • "You will travel far... my little Kal-El"

  • Is his heart supposed to sound like dubstep?

  • gracias...la andaba buscando por todo youtube y la tuya es la mejor...ecxelent!

  • As much as I hate "Superman Returns", I have to say that this is an AMAZING scene. Very well executed. If the rest of the movie was as thoughtful as this scene, it would have been quite a film.

  • I have to say that was a wonderful sequence! It makes the scale of the movie huge, and it should have been kept for the final cut of the film. At the very least, it showed something we had never seen before in the filmed versions of the Superman movies. There were many final scenes that could've been trimmed down to make five minutes worth of room to allow this to be a part of the story! Thanks for posting this!

  • Thank you so much for uploading this. It's easily the most visually fascinating scene of the film - that spaceship is gorgeous - and with all the time, effort and money that obviously went into making it, leaving it on the cutting room floor seems like sheer lunacy.

  • This is kind of a great scene.... that image of Krypton's shattered frame is haunting. They probably could've slimmed some other scenes down to make room for this one, considering the rest of the movie's glacially slow pace...

  • They did right to cut this part out... Its too much.....As I remember Krypton Exploded didnt it....

  • ...just one question...WHAT THE F DOES SUPERMANNNNNNNNN NEED A SHIP FOR!?!?!?!

Gawd Singer, you are so retarded. Everyone knows you are terrible, you couldn't even get the suit right ya commie....COMMIE!

  • @iJigglypuff He needs a ship because he has to hold his breath in space. He can't hold his breath forever. No one would know it from the movie, but that's what it says in the comic haha

  • @ckjadams

The movie was based on the Christopher Reeve "Superman". It was before the first reboot (1986), where Superman was powered down. So, flying in space, without breathing air was no problem. According to the movie's novel, he made the ship, because there was no yellow sun. Without the sun, he would suffacate, like any breathing being.

  • Dammit, why are the Best scenes the ones that are always taken out the most?! *McGroan*

  • Great Scene, Decent SUPERMAN, BAD writing...tis a shame, cause Brandon wasn't bad for a not so experienced actor...Hope this "Reboot" doesn't kill the Franchise with that Armadillo Suit with plastic crap on his arms and "Belt"

  • Singer is indeed a retard. If hes not around a yellow sun, he shouldn't be affected by the kryponite. lmao, just plain stupid

  • @Videoproducerfantic That's what I thought. It was still a really great scene that should have been put into the final cut.

  • @Videoproducerfantic i dont undrstand what u mean. explain please i i only thought that kryptonite affects him no matter what

  • Singer's an idiot, that's all I can say.

  • Dumb scene for so many reasons and its no wonder why it was cut out but the most irritating thing is that KRYPTON BLEW UP due to its core. So therefore it shouldnt be there!!!

  • @HerbFlowers krypton was in pieces u doucebag there world remain some planet

  • @newroosterlouis clearly you're an idiot, first of all go do your research on Superman. if thats not enough than look at the opening credits of superman and obviously superman returns and you can clearly see that KRYPTON BLEW UP! im a big Superman fan so please :-)

  • They should have left this in the movie. It not only shows the techonology he used to get there and back, but also what he saw and what effects the place would have on him physically. Plus it helps further drill in the fact that he IS an alien. This clip explains so much, and cutting it out only left everyone with quesitons that could have been answered with this.

  • @PubjunkMcKunkin Plus it introduces themes that will be seen later in the film. When Luthor grows the new Krypton on Earth it is nothing like the original glory of Krypton, but instead the dark, corrupted, and toxic shell we see here. When Superman throws it into the sun he's giving up his old world. Also, the first time we see Superman, he's relying on technology, weak, and in danger, contrasting with his power on Earth, and suggesting he doesn't feel completely comfortable as a savior.

  • For those who want a nice synced up soundtrack to this clip, try this: Cue up The Planet Krypton track from the original Williams soundtrack and start it exactly when this clip hits 30 sec. It syncs up surprisingly well.

  • Alright, so Superman is super intelligent, and his race's technology is the pinnacle of brilliance and innovation. Then why the fuck did they design a ship like that? It's the definition of non-aerodynamic. Combined with the material of choice apparently being soft crystal, of course everything it touches will totally shatter it. Furthermore, since he was alone, why not just fucking fly out there with a flashlight? He's fast enough to warp time on his own, why would he ever need a ship?

  • @Volcanic9

    1. Aerodynamics don't matter in space.

    2. im sure to soft crystal is fine considering you don't plan on crashing it and its probably made out of some futuristic material.

    3. the yellow sun of earth is giving superman his powers so he would not be able to fly there.

  • @Hunter21891 sorry didn't saw your answer to Volcanic9.. :(

  • @Volcanic9 What the point of being aerodynamic when there is no air resistance is space ? You just discovered that all superman orginal race technology is cristal based, congratulation. And "why he didn't go there flying ? Well that's pretty simple in fact.. he don't have any power out of our solar system, our solar system specificity give him his power.

  • fuck it... autopilot

  • Terrible sound design

  • It wasnt really explained much at the start of RETURNS where he went, if they had this scene but a bit shorter it wouldve been better

  • this is a great scene, but it totally contradicts the classic superman story that says krypton as a whole was destroyed. however, the idea that krypton was portrayed in the movie to still be there is mind-blowing to me

  • They shouldn't have replaced branding routh he should've been in the man of steel movie and this clip should've stayed this is cooler than the whole movie

  • THIS is the suit Superman should've worn instead.

  • So what does the Superman sign mean(it being there)? Why did kryptonite affect him there? I thought he didn't find anything? Good thing this was a deleted scene!

  • @ITSAFUCKINGCROCODILE The Superman sign is actually the family crest of the House of El, Superman (Kal-El's) family. He must've come across the remnants of his family house when he saw it. When he went there, he said it was "only a graveyard and he was all that's left." living of Krypton... if that clarifies things.

  • @TheDjmoore33 thanks!

  • Poor continuity without good explanation. Krypton blew apart, so there shouldn't be any thing left, but assuming asteroid chunks are left, scientist could find those remains, I guess. Krypton was is in the galaxy of the red sun, so "kryptonite" shouldn't effect him, unless he's permanently acclimated to the yellow sun. Also if it takes years to get from there, shouldn't it takes years to return. Also didn't his father say in S1, as he was traveling, other known advance worlds.. why not reach out

  • @USD95 If you remember, the red sun went supernova and blew up Krypton as a result. In this version, big chunks of it blew apart leaving large remnants. Consequently, the explosion probably irradiated the pieces creating kryptonite which is lethal to all Kryptonians. In addition, they probably fast forwarded it timewise for the movie. It takes 2 1/2 years to get to Krypton and back both ways.

  • I don't know why people are saying this scene was "awesome." It makes no sense. Krypton blew up and the pieces are scattered throughout the Universe. If anything was left, you'd have an iron (Kryptonite) core and nothing else. Superman should have known this, so the whole idea of him leaving Earth for 5 years is ludicrous. Ma and Pa Kent didn't raise him to leave a pregnant Lois Lane to raise his kid alone. Superman has morals! He's not a modern dad!

  • why the living fuck did they cut this???????????

  • thought krypton blew the fuck up in sup 1

  • But scientists found Krypton, and that's why Superman went there to begin with. Why would he go after something that found, but wasn't found.... that took him over 2 years to get to, but 3 minutes to return from... why is Luthor's plan so booooring.... why is Lois 12..... why doesn't anything make sense.... why is there a stupid kid? When will Mr. Plinket review this film?

  • I don't get it. How did it take Supes nearly 5 years to reach the ruins of Krypton, but he made it back before the effects of kryptonite wore off? Cool scene, but there's a lack of logic behind it.

  • @BigSax1984 and also how can the krytonite even effect him if he isnt under the yellow sun his in a spaceship i dont think he would have any power and also he probly didnt know where krypton was maybe thats why it took him so long to there

  • @BigSax1984 Hence why it was removed.

  • The avengers

  • I hate to see an awesome scene like this one fail to make the final cut. Such a great deleted scene. They should've kept it.

  • @C3R04P0RT No podria haberlo dicho mejor.

  • @Davis385 it cost ten million dollars

  • Comment removed

  • how could bryan singer not place this in the movie... *wonderz

  • really awesome scene, very Kubrick.... pity for the cut..

  • Great special effects poor writing and directing. I hope they don't screw up the next movie.

  • @kevin063092 What Do you mean by poor writing and directing? The script was solid; there were no obvious plot holes. The dialog was sharp and appropriate for the movie. The director got fantastic performances out of the actors and you saw every detail in every scene. The camera shots were breath taking and the real effects blended nicely with the digital FX. So again what was so bad about the writing and directing?

  • DAMN YOU SINGER, you cut out the best part!!! You MORON!!! For all I care, this could even been 10min long! LOVED IT

  • this is a mini version of the actual film. its long, boring and has very little going on.

  • @highlandcommando I laughed so hard reading your comment, because it is true

  • sry, but i really hated this movie

    cool deleted scene though

sup will always be Chris Reeve to me

  • The movie was good and Routh was a good Superman/Clark, but this scene really sucked. It's boring, seems to take forever and is hopelessly fake looking. Glad it was out of the final cut.

  • @1957pinup It's fake looking because it is a deleted scene, they didn't need to add the final rendering.

  • they should've kept it in. I remember watching the movie for the first time and was confused as to why he was gone and why he collasped, not to mention why the suit. ok, I had a lot of questions for the person who cut the film to the point tha tit didn't make sense.

  • @quiettornado1970 watch?v=mNAx7yIjSRg

SELLING SUPERMAN RETURNS MOVIE COSTUME !!!

  • @quiettornado1970 watch?v=mNAx7yIjSRg is a video omg...

type it in youtube and you see video

  • I would bet that Singer probably has alot of footage left over like this, that never made the final cut, which is a shame. Maybe it would have made the film that much better among fans and critics.

  • The ship looks like the star of David

  • @starsheild7 Lol, maybe Jor-El was Jewish?

  • @NatDuv121 In a way that is actually true. Supermans creators Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel were both jewish. Another sign is the names Jor El and Kal El. I do not know what Jor El means, but I read that Kal El translate into something like: Carrier of God.

  • This explains why the ship just crashes on the Kent farm! In the theatrical cut of the film, it makes Superman look like a shit pilot.

  • why this was never added to the movie I do not know. What were they thinking?

  • @drac484 Probably that Krypton should be a debris cloud at this point instead of a planet.

But yeah they sure did put some great work into it for nothing.

  • This was very cool to watch

  • Whoever made the decision to cut this scene, should seriously go fuck themselves!

  • @koales01 totally agreed, this scene was awsome.

  • Screw Henry Cavill. Brandon is Superman!

  • Why waswn't this even in the DVD extras?

  • They deleted such marvelous scene!! I can't understand.

  • Thanks so much Coleman Reese for posting this! I have been hoping it would find its way online since my DVD did not have it. Have you noticed how WAY better the movie would be with it, anywhere in there, to show what happened when he was away? I'd have liked a voiceover too, with Supes explaining to Lois what he found out there. Thanks again!

  • Would have been even better had they showed a brief shot of the Silver Surfer looking at all of this, and say" hehehe...I don't need a space ship.", then speed off.

  • Krypton blew up.. how could he visit it? lol

  • @JamesOwnzsam Near the end of the video as the ship is flying back toward Earth with Krypton in the background, it's apparent that there was only a sliver of the planet remaining, the rest of it having been disintegrated or blown apart into smaller debris. Just because something explodes doesn't mean there aren't big chunks left behind :)

  • Love Brandon! Bring him back!!

  • meh, nuthin special.

  • Pause at 2:30...Tell me if that's not Superman.

  • The makers of the new Superman movie made a big mistake by not using Brandon Routh again, he's older now and lost some of his boyish looks, which a good thing, he now looks more like Superman more than ever.

  • I just want to know who would buy the $80 boxset of Superman returns

  • Hang on. Why is the Kryptonite hurting him if he's in the Krypton Galaxy with the Red Sun?

The Kryptonite only hurts him when he is under the Yellow (Earth) Sun.

  • Comment removed

  • @YolondaHayes From Wikipedia: "Krypton is usually portrayed in comics as having exploded as a result of a nuclear chain reaction caused by the planet's unstable radioactive core (which created the Superman-deadly Kryptonite)."

  • @NaijaHollow That doesn't explain my point!

And exactly, Krypton exploded!! Why is it partly there?

  • @YolondaHayes Forget everything you learned from the comics, cartoons, interwebs, etc. In Superman 1, Luthor deduces that, "the level of specific radioactivity is so high to anyone from the Planet Krypton, this substance is lethal!" (There's no way that he can know that, but hey, he's a genius.) So in Richard Donner's version of Superman's universe, which Bryan Singer bases Superman Returns on, Kryptonite is always deadly to Kryptonians.

  • @ldcrspd Fair enough, don't like it though. I think this scene is pretty self indulgent.

  • Love Superman, Not a fan of SR but this is by far the best scene. Shame it wasn't included :(

  • Admittedly I'm no Superman expert - but I thought green kryptonite only affected him on Earth (or any planet with a yellow sun that gives him powers, of course)?

  • @enigma19833 - no, kryptonite affects Krypnians regardless of proximity to a yellow sun, just as radioactive substances affect us...

    ...apparently ;)

  • @enigma19833 Dude that's what I said!! You're dead right, it makes no sense.

  • @enigma19833 jaithebard is right. That's not established in this movie or in Superman 1 or 2. See my other post. When watching a superhero movie, it's very important to remember to forget everything you know from the comics, cartoons, and other movies that aren't meant to be connected to the one you're watching. Based on Superman 1, 2, and Superman Returns, we have no reason to believe that Kryptonite isn't always deadly to Kryptonians.

  • Amazing! Why this was cut is beyond me.

  • @avenuePad Money. Shorter playing time means more showings per day. They generally do not like movies beyond 100 minutes running time.

  • Man, cryptonian design makes apple's look like shit

  • Why did they take this out? Pretty cool! Also, I really liked Superman Returns & own it on DVD. Don't hate!

  • Per the novel where this scene was described, the entire "Krypton exists" thing was a story concocted by Luthor and some astronomy fakery so that Supes would leave Earth long enough for Lex to get paroled on a technicality. It might have made sense to include it since it described why Luthor got out of prison so soon.

  • What a truly alien ship design. I give the makers of this scene high praise. I think of the First Ones from Babylon 5 when I see this. Nothing on the ship is conventional like buttons or flashing lights. There's no indication of how it works at all nor is any effort expended on explaining how it might work. It's beautiful. We don't know how it works, but we see it working.

  • Reminded me a lot of Stanly Kubrik. To bad they had to cut it because morons couldn't pay attention without loud noises and pretty explosions and titties. Great scene.

  • @xiquiripat EPIC comment! I totally agree. People should not ALWAYS need "loud noises and pretty explosions and titties!" you rock.

  • Amazing opening scene to a less than amazing movie. It was probably cut due the inconsistincies it created with the first movie:

    (1) Krypton was completely destroyed.

    (2) His ship was destroyed when it reached Earth.

  • @trm135 There are actually a handful of inconsistencies with the first two movies, but that never really stopped Singer from intentionally including them. The most notorious was that in the Superman II, Superman made Lois forget about their relationship, but in Superman Returns she fully remembers and that's why she tells Superman that Jason is their son.

  • @mrmacross I never got the impression that Lois remembered what happened. I just assumed that she figured it out when she realized that she was knocked up. (On a side note, I liked how the writers pulled the old Count of Monte Cristo bit by having Lois pretend that Jason is Richard's son.)

What are the other inconsistencies that you speak of? The one that I quickly noticed was that Jor-El's explanation of Superman's powers were mostly ignored. Singer just stuck with the yellow sun explanation.

  • @trm135 Much respect, but I disagree. You have a point about Krypton apparently being destroyed in Superman 1, but since it was made in 1978, the special effects were primitive enough that it gave Singer plenty of reason to remake that scene with greater detail. When Krypton is hit by the supernova, only some of the planet gets shot out of the system. As for the ship, it wasn't destroyed. The spires were, but the deleted scene shows them growing back after they strike some floating debris.

  • Amazing scene, very tense. But I understand why it was cutted off.

  • 4:21 "Use the boost to get through!"

  • @TheMarkofJohn No barrel rolls then?

  • I loved this movie. Thank you for posting this!

  • I didnt like the movie. I think it was way to long and pointless. But this scene looks REALLY cool and I think I'll buy it on Bluray and give it another go. The guy playing Superman did a very good and convincing job, and Kevin Spacey was excellent as Lex! Even tho I liked the main characters the story was to boring and quite pointless. I'm looking forward to the new Man of Steel, directed by Zack Snyder.

  • This should have been in the movie. It would have really underscored the fact that there Krypton truly is gone and that Earth is all there is for him.

  • I really like this movie, Routh was a good kent: nerdy awkward kensas boy and an inspiring superman: remember that plane scene? I really don't understand why people are hating on this.

  • @ds37 I have some love for too but, I hated it for the same reasons most people hated it, it was the same movie as the first one and added nothing new to the series, another reason was that the actors used, though Routh looked and acted the part he and Lois looked too young, they might as well been in Smallville (tv series), lastly they degraded Superman by giving him a bastard child, you can argue that the Dark Knight was basically a remake of Batman (1989), but they did add more and it worked.

  • @nostalgiatrip1 Did you even watch the 1st 2 Superman movies? Christopher Reeve an Margo Kidder were in their early 20's and looked it! as for adding nothing, They added a new element to the chemistry between Lois and Superman. Her Bitterness at his leaving for 5 years made her finally realize that he is not the god she once saw him as. He is now flawed in her eyes. As for the child; this is a sequel to Superman II. It only makes sense that Lois got impregnated in that in Sup 2.

  • It's a beautifully made scene but I can see why Mr. Singer decided to cut it. We don't really learn anything or find anything on Krypton. It's just a load of Kryptonite like we'd expect. Great to finally see this but I loved Superman Returns as it was.

  • I seriously like Superman Returns. Brandon was a great Clark Kent/ Superman!

  • Some flutters of the original John Williams 'Superman' theme during this scene would've sufficed nicely, made it move a little quicker and tie in better to the rest of the film. Oh, well, what might have been, I suppose.

  • so am I the only one who actually likes Superman Returns?

I knew he shouldnt have been there, a giant floating kryptonite

  • @Domexpo I love this movie too. You're not the only one. I think the studio could make money with BOTH versions of Superman, right now. Give us SR fans our story with Brandon, Sam, and even Kate, and the super kid, and give the other fans their New Superman with asskicking and all that lowbrow comic book crap, and I bet you, i just BET you, that BOTH films would make 100s of millions of dollars and Euros too.

  • @johnnations yeah! And they're not as smart as you to think of doing it! What a pity! That's some serious genious stuff you got there!

  • Well that was pointless...

  • SUPERMAN sign makes no sense but kryptonite does

  • What if us humans visited Krypton, would we have supermans abilities?

  • @Jangaboo Krypton was destroyed so we'd die of no atmosphere.

  • @rehmsmeyer i think Superman is able to exist outside of our atmosphere on his own

  • boring

  • Imagine the credits coming at 5:14.

    It would be epic!

  • @ashwillians You mean the opening credits? I agree TOTALLY epic. But what about this: could it have been a scene Superman remembered and then woke up suddenly from while in his bed on the Kent farm? then it could be buried inside the movie when we have already had some action. What do you think?

  • Yep, it's scenes like this one that made Star Trek the Motion Picture such an enduring classic.

  • can anyone tell me what the "S" on superman's chest stands for? I know it's not for Superman because his father wore it on his clothes on krypton so it's a kryptonian symbol but what does it stand for? do the comics ever try to explain it?

  • @Mattman003 It's his family crest

  • Comment removed

  • @Mattman003 Yes! the "S" is actually a serpent on the "EL" family crest on Krypton. The S shape is explained to just be a coincidence by Richard Donner's 1978 movie. It stands for the House of El. That's why Superman is Kal-El, his dad is Jor-El, the family always ate together at El Taco, and Baby Superman was trying to land in El Paso, Texas, but missed. Guess his El GPS was damaged in the trip...

  • This scene would have been fine in any half way decent Superman that carried the same tone, but this would of been so out of place.

  • i´ve never seen this part..!! It was awesome !!!

  • I'm convinced that the writers didn't realize all the plotholes and inconsistencies in this film. This scene would explain why he was weak and frail when he returned to earth. This scene should have bene left in or the part with him being weak and frail left out. Also, the scene has him pointing the ship back toward earth. The next scene has him coming in hot and fast as if it took him hardly any time at all to arrive. Why the 5 year absence then? lol Doesn't make sense.

  • @Holmes245

I think it took superman 2 1/2 earth years to get to krypton and another 2 1/2 to get back to earth bcuz in the original superman he looked like was 2 years old when he arrived on earth

  • @xboyindahouse Actually, I thought about that later and realized that it would have only been 2 1/2 years. Regardless, it doesn't matter if it only was one month. The scene shows Kal-El pointing the ship toward earth and hitting "the accelerator". When he returns, he's weak due to his exposure to Kryptonite from this scene which explains why he was weak. However, if it took him 2 1/2 years to get back, there's no reason why he would still be weak. There's a time inconsistency there regardless.

  • Awesome scene - loved it!

  • that 5 minz was better then the whole movie

  • so the things jutting out from his snow flake ship is basically pointless? his ship flies fine without it.

  • Um, Krypton was destroyed in Superman (1978). We see it explode on screen.

  • why's he in a spaceship?! he can breathe in space and fly!

anyway, fucking Singer should've signed up for a sequel instead of Valkyire, Routh deserved it.

  • @Hughezy

Superman can't breath in space, there is nothing to breath. He can hold his breath, but even for Superman there is a time limit for that. He can hold his breath in space for a few hours, no more. Traveling light years away and back requires him to use a ship.

  • @biff322 ah, i get ya.

this is such a better intro that Lex Luthor letting an old lady die

  • @Hughezy I agree. That was such a LAME opening in the Theatrical Release, after the amazing swooping credits and John Williams orchestra score, to have it be a rainy thundery night in an old lady's bedroom with false teeth and Lex being boring.

  • yea no protective gear at all. in the book version of the film he wore protective gear when he went down there, actually went out on the planet to explore it and ghost of the past from the planet came out, tried to drag him down with them and kill him. good book though, wish they kept this scene in the film all they had to do was trim it a bit and it would be fine.

  • would have been funny had he crashed landed on another planet lol

  • Well this was sort of better than SR. But it kept with the rest of the movie's cold, sedated vibe. What is strange is that he wanted to pay homage to Donner yet Donner's Superman was full of emotion but SR was pretty cold. And when you watch his X-Men movies they are more fun and emotional than Superman Return. I wonder why Singer took this root for SR as he has shown that he can do things differently.

  • Parece a nave da imaginação da Série Cosmos de Carl Sagan.

  • this was awesooooooooome!!!!, too bad the rest of the movie is not as cool, I still liked it thou

  • This deleted scene was better than the majority of Superman Returns. It was supposed to be Singers version of "Superman 3" after the Donner movies but just fell short. Admittedly, it's almost impossible to beat the first two old school Superman movies but Singer could have not been so damned "artsy" with it and had not only Luthor but Doomsday or a repowered General Zod. I'm eager to see the new Man of Steel but really no hero movie will ever top The Dark Knight. Ever.

  • i didnt like the movie Returns at all,, but this Scene is badass,, i like how it shows more of superman's alien side, and the whole kryptonian element,,, singer really shoulo have kept this in the movie,, cuz this one scene is better then the rest of the movie was

  • That ship isnt aerodynamic. -__-

  • @elporkster Why should it be aerodynamic if it's meant to be flown in space, with no air to be influencing how the ship moves?

  • @Reborn8303:

I couldn't agree more. In fact Singer was going to use Brainiac in a similar vein to Star Trek:The Wrath of Khan for the sequel!!!

  • They should have let Bryan Singer do a sequel to Superman Returns.

  • This was Epic ! I wish i was in the film. I think I read at one point Singer, was going to use it if he made another Superman film . It would have been cool if Some one would have followed him back to earth ! Like Brainiac !

  • This is epic, singer should have been allowed to continue this franchise. BTW if anyone knows where i can find the superman returns review don by Quentin Tarantino please let the rest of the world know.
