@andrewbill1956 I followed the first Pavarotti's Competition in Philadelphia when Leila Guimaraes was the absolute winner. She was Pavarotti's first Mimi, singing besides him even at the opening night, and not as a substitute. By the way she has won an EMMY that year for her performance as Mimi. She also stirred my heart since then.
I saw this opera on PBS years ago when Leyla was brought in as a substitute. I fell in love with her then and she still stirs my heart!
