  • Nothing could be done better!

  • Thank you for this tutorial, kyrie.

  • OMG! That was funny! I'll give you points for creativity. Good job.

  • RAAAINBOWW!

    Throw the stupid drumstick LOL

  • sorry guys but this literal version....TOTALLY SUCKED....it was so fucking awful that it simply wasnt funny

  • I never noticed the drumstick!

  • Faved! :P

  • Finally seen this done to a song I love. Funny, yet somehow I feel violated.

  • Whoa-- man-- in the last 12 minutes, did you close your account?!

But thank you SO much for both of your comments-- and don't you worry, I'm a MONUMENTAL Mr. Mister fan, and I plan on getting Pull as soon as perfectly possible. We Belong to No One has been stuck revolving around in my head all of last month-- the key change just has me at Cloud Nine-and-a-half-- pure musical bliss. But believe me when I say that I did this literal video out of love. Glad Mr. Mister took it that way, too.

  • This is one of your best parody/literal videos

  • Hilarious! Thanks for the laughs.

Anyway, check out our new album "Pull" (which we actually recorded in 1990 but the record company buried). We think it's some of our best work. You can download a free track at our site MrMisterOfficial[dot]com.

We got the rights back and we'll be releasing “Pull” on our own indy label LittleDumeRecordings[dot]com in October.

Thx to all the fans for keeping the faith. Its been 20 years, but we’re coming back!

Richard, Pat & Steve / Mr. Mister

  • When I read this, I was in the middle of the school hallway, walking, and I just stopped in my tracks when I read this, and started shouting for joy like the severe '80s fanatic I am. Seriously, your music has made so many of my days-- and I felt that this Literal Video craze deserved its share of you guys. VERY glad you guys enjoyed it.

And even more remarkable is your revival. That had me hyperventilating. *cracks up*

  • If there's going to be any album I get in the near-future, it's going to be Pull. I immediately got a copy of We Belong to No One-- this here is a potent piece of musical mastery. Every single time I reach the halfway point's key change, electric chills go all the way through every fiber of my being. Now I go about in my highschool's hallways playing this, hoping someone will be inspired by it like I am. My generation needs you guys. Absolutely unreal composition, thanks, inexpressibly so.

  • ...is it bad that I know this song ONLY by these words now?

  • yeah thats exactly what i meant homestar because i love the original song. i just dont why you would want to rape the quality of the original. this guys is already underrated

  • I'm really, really sorry, man... I love this song, myself. I love this song, myself, and didn't mean to demean the original with my silliness. I just wanted to pay tribute is all... I know quite a few Mr. Mister fans have appreciated the video, but I can really understand how you feel. But SERIOUSLY, this parody was not made with the intent of mockery.

  • its amazing that these guys came up with idiotic lyrics for this song.

  • I think you mean it's amazing that one kid who thinks he's funny came up with idiotic lyrics for this song. *crosses eyes*

  • lol, Kýrie is not a girl...

Kýrie, eléison is Greek for "Lord, have mercy"

  • Baaah, do you really take me for THAT much of a buffoon? The song is DEFINITELY talking about the Greek/Latin phrase, but-- my glorious significant other was GOING to be named Kyrie, after that particular phrase. *crosses eyes* So-- yus'. Play on words.

    (/unfunny funny)

  • @HomeStarRunnerTron I know someone named Kyrie Eleison after this song... she can't stand it.

  • @AlphaGeneral it is actually latin but you have the meaning right

  • @ksoltar Kyrie eleison is a greek term, but since the catholic church (mostly latin) and orthodox church (languages such as greek) used to be combined and then split they share that phrase in worship.

  • @AlphaGeneral Thanks for that, the ignorance of this point has bugged me since i was a kid.

  • hahahahahahahaha 5/5

Mr Mister is great even when parodied

  • Great Literal Video my good sir! Your humor is surprisingly catchy! You're starting to rub off on me :)

  • That was funny man. Thanks! Show this to Weird Al Yankovic and believe me, he'll be impressed!

  • Nice.

  • Yeah i will say this is pretty funny! lol! I am a real big big big fan of Mr Mister/Pages/Richard Page and it was a bit of a shock to see this but I'd have to be pretty hard hearted not to see the funny side! well done!!!!!!

  • I thought it was awesome!

  • Very funny!!!! Great job! :o)

  • the lyrics are funny but you need someone else to sing, mix and record it better.

  • I don't get the variety of comments about my voice... some people say I stink, some people say my voice is raw-ther spiffy.

*shrug* As for mixing and recording... what exactly do I need to improve on? I've got a pretty awesome Logitech stand microphone-- and I tried to make full use of the left and right! We Built This City is a lil' bit better on that accord, but still!

  • Also, thank you ved'dy much about the lyrics. ROFFLE-- oddly enough, MOST people say that's the thing I need to improve on.

  • "I like dress up" LOL!

  • i have to download this. i heard the real version of this song, and when i did, i jumped up and down in glee! i thought of this version when i heard the song.*i am talking in circles arent i???*

  • Oh! Joo' do? Welp, here you go! *posts it in the description* Plez' to be enjoying!

And yeah-- heheh. Mr. Mister is so chuck-full of awesomeness, it's incomprehensible.

  • Grumblemumblehooeytwaddle.

  • Back to meeeeeeee!--? xD

I probably commented on this ages ago, but I just noticed the question mark at the end of that phrase and HAD to say something. =D Whoo!

  • Whoa-- you are the FIRST to notice that very, very miniscule detail. If you can find one more of my dorky split-second details, you'll truly be the master of finding my secret messages.

... Yes, there ARE actually quite a few secret messages in my videos that only, like... 4 people have ever seen and no one has ever found on their own.

GO, TAIYA. *applauds you in real life*

  • I always find all of them.. */nerd* I'm such a freak. xD

    *dances in confetti*

  • Thanks for this nice video!

What's the name of the drummer?

  • His actual name, if I'm not utterly mistaken, is Pat Mastelotto!

    Either that or Napoleon Dynamite.

... the way I said his line in the video, you'd think so. ROFFLE.

    Thank you so VERY much!

  • @HomeStarRunnerTron

    Thanks

I really like his hair :D

  • EEEEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHTIIIEEEEEEEES!

    Hilarious video.

I kept expecting some sort of reference to his blinding white sneakers. :)

  • ROFFLE-- glorious extension of letters thar', Canuck Yak. *grins* Thank you so VED'DY much.

Oh, MAN, I have to admit, you commenters suggest some things that really make me wish I'd had the sense to think of! This would be one of the things on that list. SO-HO true.

  • The video finally makes sense after all these years!

  • ROFFLEEE-- ohhh, how true, how true. This is a continuation of that hilarious trend in music videos: CONCERT TOUR AND ALBUM RECORDING MONTAGES. Thank you so ved'dy much, Madame Cassandra!

  • best thing since... uhh... preserved batwings!!

  • WHOA. Preserved in what sort of medium? Brine? ... Salt? Urm... Zip... locs... ?

Any-which-way, I take this as an IMMENSE COMPLIMENSE. ... I mean-- MENT. TO THE BATWINGS.

  • GENIUS!!!!! *bows from the waist and smiles w/ an innocent look*

  • D'aaaw, your kind words make'th me ever so gleeful, Madame Katie. *bows from the waist back with an equally (if not MORE-so... don't know who's the best at it here.) innocent smile*

  • @HomeStarRunnerTron i would love to help you with any more videos you may be making in your near future, please? i think that you are awesome and you need a video helping-with fan-girl....you found that fan-girl who is still writing this comment!! :3

  • LMAO

  • ACK-- *sobs uncontrollably*-- Poor, poor buttocks. I apologize PROFUSELY for your treMENDous loss.

    ... wait, that sounds offensive.

  • Brilliantly done! One of the best literal videos. "While he improvises let us show him as a doctor (I like dress-up!) And I love the voices in the background - the peanut gallery - like Mystery Science Theater. Great job!

  • Oh-- thank you so VERY much, Mr. 53! I am truly humbled by your kind words. *tips imaginary English cap* And any fan of MST3K/Rifftrax is one sm'eriously glorious individual. "Come BA-HACK! You're the only weight we have!"

  • Giggle.

    My name is Kyrie.(:

  • LOL! Omg, I laughed so hard at this, especially "Go away I'm getting pretty". hahaha, wow this was hilarious, nice job! Probably the best if not one of the best literal videos I've seen! =D

  • I love the vocals on this. The video isn't as ridiculous as some 80's vids but you did a good job with it. Thanks!

  • Good trivia- Mr. Farris played the lead guitar solo on the KISS song "Creatures Of The Night." I know it sounds silly but it's true.

  • Weeell, isn't that a comedy song to begin with? Literal videos are supposed to make stuff that isn't supposed to be all that funny funnier!

  • How about a song by eiffel 65? (was that the name?)

  • The ultimate '80's music video that is suppose to be serious but should be made into a humorous literal video would have to be Johnny Hates Jazz's U.S. (not the original British one) music video of "Shattered Dreams" (actually like the song, but the video is over the top dramatic & has a ton of potential for literal creation w/ the shrunk band of Johnny Hates Jazz running around the woman who is spazzing's apartment -- including her bathroom sink).

  • Exactly. Poor old Pat Mastelloto (drummer) he was like, really not the same league! What a talent tho!! I do think the lead guitarist was cute in his heyday though in a way! Can I subscribe to your channel pls??! This is so funny rofl!

  • I hope you do "is it love" soon! Good luck with it, you have a very good, ironic sense of humour! I didn't think i'd like it because I love Mr Mr, but it is real funny! Page does seem a little vain on this vid I must say! He has every reason to be though cos I think he's gorgeous!

  • Will be sure to! -- Thank you VERY much, fellow lover of the 80s. *grins* -- Yeah, I make sure to make fun of the song and video without being overtly mean. I mean, honestly, I absolutely adore the 80s! HOW COULDST I?! And yes, Page is a "peanut-butter-chocolate-hunk", as my family would say! Poor other band members, though!

  • what is a peanut-butter-cholocate-hunk? and why poor other band members?

  • A peanut-butter-chocolate-hunk is a reference to a really old video I did that was never put up on YouTube. It's just a crazier way of saying hunk. And poor other band members because they have to jam in the shadow of Page. *facepalm*

  • Okaaay..well i guess it's kinda funny i'm no grouchy old fart and i did laugh a bit at it and I am a big fan of this band. I wanna ask you a question whoever made this...are you a fan of Mr Mister or did you just wanna do a funny version of Kyrie? Do you have any other 'literal' Mr Mister vids?

  • Don't worry, I am no grouchy young fart, neither! Thank you very much for bein' honest-- and yes, I am quite the fan of Mr. Mister. While I am not all-knowing when it comes to band info and trivia, their musick is some of the sophisticated, intricate, and all-around emotionally immersing rock-pop this world shall ever know! I have a huge affinity for both your namesake and Is It Love! I'm planning a literal of Is It Love!

  • i think it is just like all the other videos, saying whats happening to the tune of the original song. i think the was a great job considering their wasnt a whole lot to work with in this vid since it was mostly concert shots with random "plot" points (really just random scenes.)

but great job. one of my favorites

  • You might want to try to inject some humor. This video is way too literal, u described exactly what we see in the video. No humor at all

  • LAWLZOR. What about the fact that what we see in this video is hilarious in itself? And all of Page's blatant narcissism? *grins* -- But, yeah, it isn't exactly in-your-face humor. Try my other literal video-- We Built This City! You might like it more.

  • AWESOME

  • Good attempt, but it's missing humor. That comes from not just reading off what is happening, but inserting explanation or weird descriptions. Very well done, but just not funny.

  • "It's missing humor."? Are you not too bright or what? The reason it is so funny is BECAUSE it is very well done and it is a literal translation. Was the Mona Lisa missing a color of paint?

  • Don't be meean, Pat. It isn't exactly everyone's cup o' literal liquid substance. I mean, most literal videos AREN'T exactly literal anymore. *crosses eyes* Which is totally fine-- it's just kinda raised the bar in a weird, off-kilter way. -- And LAWL-- oh, man, I'm quite flattered you compared me to the master-painter Leonardo.

... but, as Leonardo himself would say about the Mona Lisa if he saw in exhibitions...

"Eeehh, it's not finished yet. *tries to grab it back*"

  • Heheh, I worried about that! I was just thinking the visuals already spoke for themselves hilariously and just needed to be boosted out into the foreground via lyric alteration! So it IS a lil' more subtle than other Literals that use lots'a pop-culture jokes in order to explain every visual. (Though... you can't say that "ironically, the road sign is our brand" ISN'T weird description.) Try watching my We Built This City. I think it's more hilarious! *grins* Thanks for being honest, Miz' Quick!

  • Eeeeeiiiiightiiieeees! :)

  • I absolutely lurv' them' 80s.

  • hahahaha great one!!! love the sound when he throws a stone into the sea xD

  • dude u people have to listen to the rick roll one!

  • Kudos for a job well done!! A definite knack for lyric tempo and rhyme. If I didn't know the original, I might be fooled. Great!!

  • still one a my favs!!! I always come back to Kyrie!!!

  • That was funny, and it rhymed! That takes some talent!

  • OMFG! This is pure genius! Great job!

  • hahaha 'watch me eat this snack'

  • Have you posted the lyrics yet?

  • No-- would you like me to?

  • Of course... I heard Kyrie on a Muzak station and I kept singing your lyrics and the people at work thought I was making it up. All I know is your version man, the best version.

(you never heard of Hall & Oates???)

  • Like I said over on Dusto's, I'd love to see someone take on Aerosmith's Jaded sometime. It has potential.

  • I had to revisit the magic again. This video is the best of all those literals out there. Did you get Mr. Mister to sing for this video? This is the gold standard of "literal videos."

  • D'aaw, man. Calling my video magic is a superb compliment. *grins* Whoa-- you're serious? That's an... über compliment, too, considering all of the other stupendous videos around. -- And-- heheh-- well, if you were serious, no, it's most certainly just me. I would love to have gotten that chance, though! The band is truly phenomenal.

  • lmao! "I like dress up"

This is great. Nicely done. And decent voice, which is different than a lot of these :-D.

  • Spot on & rhyming. Five stars.

  • Thank you ved'dy much! *grins* I... kind of have this OCD thing about rhyming when it comes to parody. But glad it's come in handy!

  • My name actually is Kyrie. I always hated this song because of that. But I LOVE this vid! Just make me like the song again... :)

  • ROFFLE-- it seems you're not alone on this matter, as many comments on this video seemed to have indicated! Makes me very glad I could turn this song into something you'd like! *grins* Thank you VERY much.

  • Brilliant..."I'm like the focal point of sight".

I wanna hear the real version now. Great job!

  • That line was the one I was just dying to put into the video since it seems all too obvious when watching the original video! *crosses eyes* Thank you so VERY much, and YES, the original version is a rock-pop masterpiece!

  • When I was a kid I thought for some reason this was a song about Carrie Fisher from Star Wars. I though that they were saying "Carrie Fisher I'll light the road you travel at night, but with a light saber and not a flashlight! I love you Miss Leia much as a Jedi so I'll carry my light saber into the night!" Oh well I was only eight or nine at the time! XD

  • ROFFLE. Oh, MAN, that... that's comedic GOLD. You-- you have to write a full version of this Carrie Fisher Kyrie! (You're my only hope.) That is literally THE best misinterpretation of lyrics I have EVER heard. Brava to your 8 year old mind. And Leia is awesome.

  • This is the second Literal Version I've watched that you've done, and I'm very impressed. Extremely well written, love the captioning, and it even rhymed! Two 80's thumbs up!

  • This is one of my favorite literal version videos. I particularly like the backup singing description of the light colors and the lines, "Hey, it's me again! I'm like the focal point of sight!" and "Why are all my backup singers singing different woooords?"

  • The ones where they just describe what you see are pretty lame instead of being clever and making up a different story that fits

  • Hehee - this is great!

  • Could you do The Romantics "Talking in Your Sleep"

  • Oooh-- *just watched it*-- poi'fect literal fodder! I shall put it on the list and credit you if I do it! Thank you ved'dy much!

  • You put "condense" but did you mean "contents", towards the very end of the video? Why am I even questioning genius?

  • Oh! No-- the line after that continues it! It's "condense microphone". Which... I'm PRETTY sure is the sort of mic he's using.

  • It would be a "condenser" microphone... Unless it is a dynamic mic, which is used for vocals a bit more often.

  • Aaahh, thank you VERY much for correctly. If only I'd known while I was writing the lyrics. *grins* I'll keep that in mind for future lyric-writing and trivia-saying.

  • OOH-- oh, MAN, you're SO right. Thank you ved'dy much! *adds to my playlist of videos to literalize*

  • Mr. Mister was a bunch of backup musicians who made good. This is hilarious.

  • You know this is a catholic hymn, right? Kyrie isn't a girls name. It's LATIN.

  • um...no, it's Greek, actually and it's really a litany rather than a hymn;

Kýrie, eléison; Christé, eléison; Kýrie, eléison = Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy

  • Yes, quite right, indeed, according to the Wikipedia-ing I did about this song before literalizing it!

  • Heh, I was born and raised Catholic, I didn't need the Wiki - I'd probably said the Kýrie a few thousand times before the original song ever came out :)

  • I'm not Catholic and so did I.

  • -- Urm-- you've NEVER met a girl named Kyrie?...

... one of my best friends was GOING to be named Kyrie. *crosses eyes* Hence the description title.

  • Awesome!

  • dude, my name is Kyri, so its very close. I love the original song SOOOO much and i laughed my butt off at the literal, lol

  • SKYE CAN YOU PLEASE MAKE MORE PLEASE!

  • Gotta say-- I love your voice!!

  • I've been watching these "literal videos" all morning and this is definitely one of the best. I'd say Top 3.

  • D'aaaw, thank you so very much! *grins* Huge honor to be there. Just out of curiosity, what would my We Built This City Literal Video fall under? I was trying to make that one better than this one-- so I'd be interested to know what you'd deem it as!

  • I just watched them both, so if you don't mind my input: strictly in terms of the literal lyrics, I liked WBTC better, but overall I preferred Kyrie, because of the Rickroll in WBTC, which was really distracting. The original vid was so rich with mockable material, bringing in something else wasn't necessary. That said, though, I still couldn't have done anything even close to what you've done--so thanks for sharing your work!

  • 1st! :D

  • They must be a band from another country...the lips don't match the words!

  • Very, very nice job! If you're looking for ideas, I'd love to see one of these done to a Hall and Oats video. They're the cheeziest!

  • Hmm... never hoid' of them! *goes to look them up*

*2 minutes later*... Thank you so VERY much for introducing me to them-- not only is their music AWESOME, you're RIGHT, their music videos would be SO much fun to literalize! I'll get right on it after my next one I'm working on! (I'll be sure to credit you.)

  • I've always loved hearing this song, despite not knowing the meaning of it.

But, with your version, it just ROCKS!!!! Thank you ever so much!!! Lyrics, comedy, and tonal quality make it an A++

    Cheers my good man!!! :-)

  • RANDOM HIGH 5!

  • *extends a random high five right back to you, too!*

    Why?... because I can!

  • good job lol

  • Dankéschöens abounding, good laddy!

  • Dude this is so awesome...LOOOOOOOOVE IT!!!

BTW, does anybody know what the song is really about....???

  • Thank you so ved'dy much, good madame!

And I think the real song is about the hopes and prayers we send forth in order to survive whatever whatnot may be ahead of us as each of our lives progress!

  • Very funny video. Literal Vid versions are an art in itself. There should be more and better ones out there.

  • Thank you very much, and I agree thoroughly! *grins* Dustin was a complete comedic genius to think up the concept. -- I'm working on two at the moment-- one for We Built This City by Starship and one for Ana Ng by They Might Be Giants.

  • Can't wait for the Starship one! This is true genius-I'm working my way through them all-thanks a lot!

  • Oh-- it's out already! *points to my video list* Enjoy! *grins* Wait-- I've only made TWO literal videos. Or are you talking about my videos in general?

  • awesome, the best one ive ever seen!

  • Whoa-- what a compliment! Thank you ved'dy, VED'DY much! *grins*

  • Fantastic job! One of the best I've seen! And you're only 15? Incredible...

  • This is one of my favorite literal videos. Relentlessly clever. Really kicked things up a notch. Check out mine if you get the chance.

  • I just realized a horrible mistake... on my own video, I made a HUGE grammatical error in my lyrics. It wouldn't be "me and Farris"-- it'd be "Farris and I"! Dag'nabbit poetic license.

  • "I like dress-up!" xD

  • *APPLAUSE*

  • oh my God! I am speechless! That was the most Awesome bit of randomness i have ever seen in my LIFE!

  • I LOVE literal videos!!!! Great job.

  • LOL! It's catchy and funny at the same time! Very creative!

  • AGGGH I just now found this. I'm late. D:

Skye, you are a wicked singer.

    And a funny, funny dude.

    (I LIKE DRESS UP!)

  • omg for a sec i thought the drummer was jonohan ross lol, gr8 vid man!!

  • Great job!

  • ... *gawks*... HUBBAH... hubbah-whicka-WHA?!

... *goes into a nervous series of actions*... GUH-HUMB-DRUM-TUMBLE-WEED. ... *absolute shock*

... *shakes it off* Thank you VERY much, Dusto! *grins* Your videos are TRULY amazabulonderfistastic. Been a BIG fan since your musical work on Love Wink back around 5 years ago! *HUGE thumbs up*

  • As usual, I loved it. It was a video that I desperately wanted to load fully on this iPod of mine so I could show this to my friends at my wi-fi less school. It was brilliance. Sheer brilliance.

  • Thank you ved'dy much! D'aaaw-- did your iPod get all bah-shiggidy-lag? I hate when I've tried to load stuff on other people's iPods and that's happened. Once again, thanks for always leaving such wondrous comments on mah' viddies. Also, since you're such an awesome singer, do you have any tips on how to fully hit high notes? I'm not very good at belting.

  • No problem, man. As for the belting, it took me a while in order to get it right. Being a self-taught vocalist, I'm not sure of the technical stuff. I know that the diaphragm is involved, but that's all I know. I think wikipedia can probably explain it better than I. The article is Belt_(music) it's quite informative and explains things better than I could.

  • I love it! You lyricized every action!

  • LOL!

  • RAINBOW!! That was serously random...

  • Skye, that was the definition of awesome!

  • I agree, that was way better than the original! Great vocals, and wow, how do you figure out how to do a literal version, that feels random, and yet it rhymes?! Must be pure genius! ...love everything you do! ...your number one fan :)

  • wow that was even cooler than the original

  • epic win.

  • Lol at "Hey it's me again, I'm the focal point of sight" and "I like dress-up."

  • i loled.

  • Go away, I'm getting pretty!

  • nicee

    :D
