Pan is basically the only thing keeping Lyra from killing herself, he acts like her conscience and talks about as much as lyra does, and keeps his role intact until the third book in which he's missing with Will's own daemon.

I love this film and think that it's one of the most overlooked and underrated Fantasy films since 2000 (along with Stardust and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen). Visual effects were decent. Nicole Kidman was stunning and very beautiful villainess. Dakota Blue Richards and Daniel Craig were great too. Hope they'll make a sequel

Well, Pan's not really a 'wuss.' He's in tune with Lyra's emotions and Lyra is most likely intimidated by Iorek. Which makes him seem frightened and apprehensive.

In the book, it is Farder Coram who confronts the bear, not Lyra, and the dialogue is different. But I guess it is better this way, a movie that is a replica of a book is boring. It's like having two different versions of the same story. I haven't seen the movie after all.

I am Ian McKellen's most devoted fan but I do think that this was not the best move; it's took similar to Gandalf, too soon after LOTR and he's too instantly recognisable in a fantasy mentor role. I wish they'd got an unknown instead and stayed with him, preferably a Russian or a Finnish actor.

Sir Ian is an exceptional actor and it's awesome that they've picked him as the voice of Iorek, my favorite character in the entire book series. I would've thought that they'd pick someone with a Russian accent, though, because the armored bears are also refered to as panzerbjorn. Either way, Iorek will pwn nubs.
