they made him much too human i think, should have got someone with a much less expressive voice than ian mack, then again i heard the story on audiobook with full cast so i guess those voices are always going to be in my mind as the ones belonging to the characters
@dobbyandheaven, did u read the stories? I wud want a deamon but not be connected to it cuz if i die it does too and if its in pain, il feel it too wud u want dat not tryin 2 be rude though just askin!!!!!!
Pan is basically the only thing keeping Lyra from killing herself, he acts like her conscience and talks about as much as lyra does, and keeps his role intact until the third book in which he's missing with Will's own daemon.
@Karimnchok Pan doesn't seem like Lyra's daemon at all. I actually like his personality more than lyra's. Can't you agree they're not the same at all? And nope, he doesn't speak as much as lyra does.
@dobbyandheaven Recently have been reading the book and it's been a while since I've seen this movie but even in writing I have to agree with you. Pantalaimon's personality is much better than Lyra's
is there ever gonna be a golden compass 2 I mean the movie had an open ending, and there are three books aren't there?? Just like eragon it never had a nr 2... it's a bit sad.
I love this film and think that it's one of the most overlooked and underrated Fantasy films since 2000 (along with Stardust and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen). Visual effects were decent. Nicole Kidman was stunning and very beautiful villainess. Dakota Blue Richards and Daniel Craig were great too. Hope they'll make a sequel
and look at the Catholic Church, in its entire. I cannot believe that has authority over entertainment und all of what is great in this movie. dark , cold, habitual..catholic church. think think
Washington , Jul 19 : Its confirmed now a sequel to the fantasy film The Golden Compass will not be made, due to constant protests from the Catholic Church....
Well, Pan's not really a 'wuss.' He's in tune with Lyra's emotions and Lyra is most likely intimidated by Iorek. Which makes him seem frightened and apprehensive.
In the book, it is Farder Coram who confronts the bear, not Lyra, and the dialogue is different. But I guess it is better this way, a movie that is a replica of a book is boring. It's like having two different versions of the same story. I haven't seen the movie after all.
lol, really? They made another movie after the DaVinci Code after all, and that's more radically antiChristian than this is by any stretch of the imagination...
I'm kinda against making a sequel for the diametrically opposite reason: I am a diehard fan of the book, and I was really disappointed with how they changed the ending T.T How would they bastardize The Subtle Knife?
I'm currently reading the first book, and aside from references to "The church" it hardly seems anti-christian. The other two books might be different. Oh, on a related note, the film follows the book REALLY well.. Much better than I thought it would.
i know i was surprised also they said that will make a second movie if the firt one was a succsess it went well worldwide but flopped in the united states so about 1/2 chance they will make subtle knife ok im gonna stop talking now
in my head when i was reading the book - i said his name was i rek pronouced exactly that : eye rek but say it like urrek!zaghhhh i can't read the sutle knife because i can't ajust to the new names and peole's persanalities.

WTF?! that fucking sucks, 1 fucking red star to you, asshole, for not adding the greatest single moment in the history of cinematics: those 10sec right before the beginning of this clip, where that douche goes "what kind of a job is that for a panzerbjorn?"
It is probably the funniest line i have ever heard in my entire life. right next to "you can take him! he aint got nuffin!", which is said later in this very film. ^^
I am Ian McKellen's most devoted fan but I do think that this was not the best move; it's took similar to Gandalf, too soon after LOTR and he's too instantly recognisable in a fantasy mentor role. I wish they'd got an unknown instead and stayed with him, preferably a Russian or a Finnish actor.
Sir Ian is an exceptional actor and it's awesome that they've picked him as the voice of Iorek, my favorite character in the entire book series. I would've thought that they'd pick someone with a Russian accent, though, because the armored bears are also refered to as panzerbjorn. Either way, Iorek will pwn nubs.
ian mckellen has done a great job. even though it was unfair on the initial voice actor to be replaced solely because new line wanted a 'bigger name' to sell the film, i'm pleased because i love the character Iorek and Sir Ian is great in anything!
Whoa, it was great! :D And it was the first time we got to see the 'Lyra' acting- Now I'm excited! She does fit perfectly with the role, although I gotta admit she sounded a bit slow with the lines.. maybe its because she's not actually seeing the bear? I dunno. Anyways, this was great!! XD
