  • I'm a straight man. I loved this movie when It came out. I had a couple of my friends watch it with me. It was silent all the way throught the film. When it was over, my friend said, "I'm glad you could share your gay porn with us." LOL Still laugh about this and I'm 30 now.

  • j'adore !!!!

  • it's a Bowie/Iggy Pop era bio pic I think - it seems to mirror a lot of the historical timeline as I know it.

  • i dnt really understand the point.

i watched the movie but i am confused ;\

  • Despite the amazing cast, superb soundtrack; despite the fact that I'm glitternerd, that I'm Bowiejunkie and a Placebo fan; totally in love with the costume design and-so-on... this movie still managed to disappoint me somehow! I just hated that pointless zoom-in camera and overall directing I guess... but, can you really blame me for having high expectations? Anyway, fun watch!

  • Perfect Performance

  • i saw this in the theatre by myself with a bunch of gangbangers in back of me and they were laughing their ass off at this scene, but they applauded at the end of the film! kinda cool

  • @trentigalaxy Good story. Hope your comment gets voted to the top.

  • @inktvisse and kaedechan123, the guy in blue is also JRM -- take a look. His "civilized" self is watching his "animal" self. Pretty cool!

  • ewan's sexy wink at the beginning of this...

  • herp derp, clicking velvet goldmine songs~

    /click

    "Ewen Mcgregor wink"

and just like that, i'm completely derailed. /reply this song ad infinitum

  • OH MY GOD. when he moves towards the camera at 1.22

  • HOT DAMN....*

  • Someone please tell me who the FUCK THIS BLUE GUY IS!?!?!? Give me a name! I'm assuming it's Patrick Briggs of Psychotica but IDK!

  • @inktvisse yeah that's him!

  • @kaedechan123 Thank you!

  • Hes HOTT! He can sing ("Babys on fire", hott song btw) He can act. I would give my right arm for one night of passion with him.

  • @unlikeanyotherhuman

    ...Yes. Exactly. :)

  • @unlikeanyotherhuman

You're not stupid for saying that. Rent the movie. You will understand why it sounds that way to you.

  • Love this, both visually and musically. It'd be nice if Jonathan recorded an album, he has a great tembre + really can perform a song (not just this one, I watched all I could find of him singing).

  • shit hot......

  • I cannot say how sorry I am to have missed glam.

  • Can I just say that this is the pinnacle of cheesiness? But I do like this movie.

  • @Squat England

  • where can i get some pants and boots like that?!! ..and a sexy prissy boy..

  • this is probably one of the most underrated songs to ever exist in human history

  • I'd go gay for them two

  • They wanted to show the beauty and sexuality that Ziggy Stardust (David Bowie) was and Jonathan was the perfect actor to show just that!

  • @TheJesterGirl actually, the singer from r.e.m. just wanted to show love to kurdt before he died. bless them.

  • bad thoughts ...s-so many bad thoughts

  • I love this movie not just because of how artsy and auteristic it is, but because it had to have taken extreme balls for Haynes to make this movie in 1999 (considering what it was about). Its just awesome.

  • Jonathan is so talented, too bad he's not in more movies...

  • Why is he so sexy? And why did my mom let me watch this when I was twelve?

  • @emilyownsarat I saw this when I was 14 and I STILL ask why my parents were ok with it XD!! LOL

  • @Treefox Hahhaa even at 17 I wonder if I should be watching it.

  • @emilyownsarat

Yeah, why DID you mother let you watch this when you were twelve? What the fuck?

  • I remember being 16 and fliping through channels and coming across this and watching it. Such a great movie and very moving.

  • I remember watching the movie and this videoclip thing came out of nowhere

this movie was pretty random....but so fucking good

and placebo were in it so it might be the best movie in the world ;)

  • i'd grab that prissy wig and shove his face RIGHT IN my flower...ahem, i mean THAT flower (at 1:15)

  • this movie is SO amazingg<3 Jonathan in this movie= DEAD.

  • Velvet Goldmine is probably the most colorful and sad movie, i totally

    LOVE IT

  • i love this..and i loved the movie

  • i am gay

  • @aliadarmes so fuck you :)

  • @konstantynopolitanek stupid joke ^ ^ : P

  • @aliadarmes i know :D

  • @aliadarmes good to know man

  • Kurt needs to sing this on Glee. It is a moral imperative.

I think he could pull off some of Brian's outfits.

And if Puck dressed like Curt Wild I'd faint.

  • @JoyfulKittie It makes me really sad that this isn't gonna happen because it absolutely should!

  • he's GORGEOUS. ♥

  • mommy why is the jedi being gay?

  • rayos! Johnathan Rhys Myers es excelente cantanteee! ¬¬ pq rayos no se dedicó a la música??

  • I´ve seen that movie several times but until today I never found out that the blue creature is actually Jonny :D

  • JRM is so gorgeous....those lips, those eyes....*SWOON*

  • I am a fan of Adam Lambert and I read this was one of his fav. movies so I just had to check it out. Bit weird LOL Love the music though.

  • i never seen him..dance like..i dunno..wear heels..lol..but i like it!

  • brian slade is based on david bowie and marc bolan and i think his characters appearance is modeled after the frontman of placebo because they look very similar and share the same name. while curt is based on lou reed and iggy pop but looks strikingly similar to kurt cobain and is in fact named kurt. could be just coincidence but just something i picked up when i watched this.

  • @xxdylanxscreamxx The whole movie is supposed to be an off beat follow to the CD the Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust. It's a love story basically based off of the real life supposed romance of David Bowie and Iggy Pop

  • @xxdylanxscreamxx i think brian slade is also basen on brian eno! have you seen pictures of brian eno around that era? this would apply

  • I wonder if it's Jonathan's real crotch that we see.....

  • 1:15..... *melts*

  • this is fuckin' amazing. greatest movie ever.

  • such a baby face <3

  • Damn, wish more people new about this movie.

  • This movie is gorgeous to look at, and I love the soundtrack!!!

  • everything came too late ...

  • leggyrah, You are so specific Q LOL =I see what ya mean, it effected me the same way=

  • love the bit were that green thing is shaggin the sex dolls. a was on the floor, brilliant film

  • glamourous <3

  • I love 1:14-23!!!!

  • Any opinnions on what this song is about? Cuz I have no idea, but I LOVE it XD

  • well...my guess may be completely off, but since Brian creates this persona of Maxwell Demon who's from outer space, I thought this was a song introducing Max to the world/ his audience hence the "I'm tired of wasting gas living above the planet. mr. show me the way to earth." like he's quitting the alien life, and coming to earth to start life here. but as i said, i cud be completely wrong :P

  • Ya they should make a john frusciante film. With red hot moments but John's the only chili that's near Bowie's caliber.

  • Bloody love this film!!!! :D

  • genius.

  • I Love IT.

  • in the movie version (this one) it's jonathan rhys meyers singing. In the soundtrack, it is shudder to think. They do sound different. I have the soundtrack.

Love this video by the way!

  • lmao. him in the blue getup reminds me of Tool's Schism video

  • i feel like this was based on David Bowie's "Life on Mars"

  • its weird, i just watched that about five seconds ago.

    haha, and i agree!

  • @actionjackson9000 Well, Brian Slade is based on David Bowie, so that would make sense.

  • Perfect movie, perfect Johnny, perfect song

  • Ele é perfeito até boiola! UUUUUI

  • Simplemente FASCINANTE

  • the glittery demon guy is so scary! haha

  • this is very very good!

  • I think this movie made me recognize my sexuality (straight female!) + my love of older bands.

  • JRM does nothing for me, but i love his rendition of this song

  • 1:52-1:54 !! his face XD xD i love it!!!

  • I love the thing he does at the end. :]

  • best actor eeeeeeeeever!!!!!!!! He is hot :D

  • 2 years ago this was my favourite film too.... I can't even describe how good it was. And still is. It gathered the whole, complete story. Actors - accelent! :)

  • Homg. His hips at 0:53 ... I need a napkin.

  • yeah, I think I had a moment too..

  • @leggyrah IAWTC *drool*

  • @leggyrah O M G..(blush)..pass those napkins this way. damn.

  • @leggyrah For real. I had to rewind about a dozen times. Those pants..those boots. That is one fine man. :D

  • Is it Jonathan Rhys Meyers singing the song? If he does he has a fantastic voice.

  • yes, it's him....it's one of my fave songs :D

and I really love his voice, but I think at the beginning, he sounds a bit like james blunt :D:D

  • I think this film is older than the James Blunt debut... I think I was about 10 or 11 years ago. I was a teenager, and I got in love with it. It is still one of my favourite films, and the thing I like the most is the the ost.

  • @Glamrockbabe No, no it's not. This is Shudder to Think. Rhys Meyers only sang two tracks in the movie, Tumbling Down and Baby's on Fire.

  • yeah this is him singing but the ablum version is Shutter to Think... both are good though!

  • I cant differenciate the voice in this and in the album :S

  • yes, he is singing this! :)

  • I've gotten so used to the lead singers voice from Shudder To Think now this version sounds odd to me lol. Still GREAT though :D

  • im drooling what the fudge

  • Io amo questo fiilm.(:

E' bellissimo quando prende il fiorellino e anche quando fuma la cicca.(:

aaaaaaaa èèè fantastico tutto di questo film.<3

  • This was probably the Highlight of the movie. Especially, if you are stoned as hell.

  • Love those velvet pants! whoooo Hot one!

Jonny is Garjus! I <3 JRM

  • LOVE!

  • wtf?

  • gaaaah i love this movie.

  • best part of this video hands down, first second

    ewan mcgregor. so. fucking. adorable.

  • Wait...

Shudder to Think is the band, performing The Ballad of Maxwell Demon.

And it was used in the cinema Velvet Goldmine.

And what is the name of the main person in this video?

  • johathan rhys meyers is the main person, hes singing in the video the songs by shudder to think

  • do u mean Joantha Rhys Meyers or do u mean Christian Bale?? xD

  • Ewan is such a gorgeous man :)

I love the song. I wonder if I can download it?

  • He is so hot...I never thought so until I started University and met this guy who looks just like him! :)

  • Love movie album songs scene

  • John Rhys Meyers is amazing. And he should sing more often! I know he doesn't sing this song, but he sings two other songs from this movie..awesome!

  • He actually does sing this song. The version on the album is Shudder to Think-- but in the film he does the vox.

  • He is singing the song in this vid, though on the album it isn't him. Have you heard the songs he sings in the movie August Rush? His voice is wonderful in them as well.

  • Ah Brillant (: Such a Great song and film. Those were the days :D xxxx

  • This song is brilliant. Don't even let me get started on Jonathan! *fans self* This film is truly a work of art.

  • Agreed :O

I think Jonathan even sung some of the songs for the movie too. I'm pretty sure he sung this one. [:

  • you are right this is his voice

  • this movie is too cool to describe realy but its a shame that Placebo dident have a bigger part i mean BRian is a realy good actor once you think about it lolz and cute ^_^ Brian Slaye has such beautifal eyes and skin mhwa mhwa!!xx

  • I so agree!

  • Glam Rock.. the coolest Scene Ever!!! =)) Im totally in love with It!

  • i love this movie, ahhhh! <3

  • Shudder to Think makes good music. Shame on you for not owning the Pony Express Record

  • It's a great flick that really captures that era well and has a really interesting vibe. A lot of men will of course have trouble with some of it. It made me squirm a little bit, but that was true to the times. The original music written for the movie is really quite good, this song being a great example. And it's really interesting if you happen to be a fan of the history of popular music and know this ear and see the many references that are woven into it.

  • the music was the best part. The rest of the movie. ehhhhhh. I've got nothing against the whole bisexual thing, comes with the glam territory, but ti went to far with that in my opinion and made in kinda unlikeable. And Todd Haynes isn't that my favourite director

  • There's nothing to be uncomfortable about, for your own sake, get over it

  • HA, my guy friends were a little uncomfortable with it too. :P They kept asking to fast forward through the guy on guyness. LMAO.

Of course, * I * wanted to see it. Christian and Ewan touching each other, YEAH.

  • They are now of course required by various International Guy Treaties to consume at least 2 hours of hot lesbian action footage, in order to counterbalance their exposure to non-manly activity in this movie.

  • Why of course. I will be sure to alert them to this. Their nightmares must finally cease. :P

  • I never really had no problem at all with it. But I wouldn't recommend this to most of my guy friends.

  • I am with you. Absolutely amazing film. My girlfriend actually put it in the VCR one day and said.."Hey, you love David Bowie...you'll love this movie!" I watched it, reluctant at first, not knowing what to expect. Now I absolutely love it...one of top fives. I love this movie's relationship to Iggy and Bowie's. A very loose comparison of course.

  • Great film. They managed to tie in together the personas, lifestyles, and fanlore of all these enormous music-history icons flawlessly into 3 main figures AND incorporate an interesting story. It's like a drama and a documentary at the same time with an amazing soundtrack, beautiful cast, great acting, and an engaging story.

    New fav. movie.

  • Why is it that you can't find this version of the song anywhere. I don't like the other version, I only like the theatrical one! Anyone know where I can get it? I don't think they have this version on the CD.

  • This is SUCH a great song. Lurve it. But, is this Jonathon singing? Sounds alot like him.

  • Amazing! The film is so crazy- but one of the best I've ever seen

  • This song sweats John Lennon's Isolation.

  • I watched this film last night for the first time.... LOVED IT!!! but didnt get some things about it... :S haha still an amazing film... :)

  • haha! that is soo wierd! I watched this movie last night for the first time too lol i LOVED IT as well ... just wow! Jonathan Meyers was aMAZing in it and i loved the MUSIC! what didnt you get about it?

  • I didnt get the "Wish" near the end... haha :) Everything was frikinggg amazing tho... JRM... = WAS GEORGOUS!!!! i could not stop watching him... It had adam written all over it :)

  • What didn't you understand?

  • the bit about the wish and the beginning bit with the green emerald/ jewel thing?

  • Shit, I deleted my long-ass comment.

Anyway; The Green Jewel belonged to Oscar Wilde. The film is strongly influenced by the ideas and life of Oscar Wilde. He was gay, and had different ideas about sexuality and other stuff. The ideology of glamrock is somewhat the same as the ideas og Oscar Wilde. Anyway... Jack Fairy finds the Green Jewel when he gets beaten up as a kid, and finding it, is the beginning of his transformation in the glammer and dragger he is. Brian steals it. ...

  • Wow thanks!! Was there a painting of Oscar wilde somewhere in the film? I thought i saw his face! I loved the film just got a bit confused first time watching it... there seemed like so many different people to think about... who is jack fairy? lol xxxxx

  • No problem! (:

Can't remember. Jack Fairy is the guy in the Green Dress, the boy that gets beaten up in the '100 years later' - scene.

Brian steals the Green Jewel when they share a kiss together.

You should watch it again in a few days. It gets better after this. The movie is just so awesome.

  • Oh I will! I will watch it like 100 times by the end of the week... I love this film so much! How about the bit near the end... when Christian Bale's character makes a wish!? i wasnt sure what he was wishing for... Thank you once again :) xx

  • Jack is like....Brian's little inspiration. The guy in the green dress that he kissed. Jack was like, the true original glam person. In the movie, they said everyone stole from Jack.
