I wanta know what whp ya made. the vtec cross over sounds good, all about the cam. just curious but did you try shotpeen the stock rods and balancing the lower end? and wow 7 years have you had any problems with it. did the build good. mine will be done this spring break with gsr and type R cams and pretty much the same bottom setup as u
Most tuners will engage VTEC very late in the power band in order to achieve that ricer VTEC cross over. When the primary lobe starts to lose steam and drop off, they wait a few hundred RPMS to engage VTEC in order to achieve that ricer sound.
On a properly tuned setup, VTEC is very hard to hear. It just sounds like it's climbing up.
And CAI over any short ram.. if you're into short rams... meh!
the bigger the cam, the bigger the primary cam profile, so VTEC should be set later in the power band because the primary cam profile now makes power higher in the power band, and the secondary cam profile of course makes power higher in the power band also. When they dynoed this car I'm sure he had hp numbers in mind and not what it sounds like.
This is not true. It all depends on what cam profile, ramp speeds, lobe height etc etc. You can't just say the bigger the cam the later you'll engage the cross over.
Skunk2 street cams use stock primaries and alter the secondary. Why would you move VTEC further up?
And not all tuners care about numbers. I for one don't care. If you want to know how healthy your engine is, do a compression test. If you want a fast car, work on your power curve. keep the peak figures for the queens.
the people that insult people are the ones that dont know shit, so therefore have to prove sumthing, by sayin pathetic half wit shit, piss off haters, gd vid too !
that crossover is perfectly normal, the difference between the camshaft profiles for low and high rpm's is causing that and this is how it should be with a B-series engine.
RoganSF is dead on, VTEC crossover should never sound that aggressive, smooth is key here folks. You guys hating just dont know your stuff, go back to your clear tail lights and aluminum wings and be happy.
a proper vtec engagment should result in a smooth transition. this car sounds like it gains a lot of power from vtec, which means its engaged to late. the lower cam power is dropping my the time the high lift kicks in. you could gain a few hp by dropping the rpm engagment point. im not an idiot. i didnt make a noise so how can i sound like a dumbass. clearly you dont know what im talking about so you assume im the retard. when its the opposite.
awsome. whats the numbers. i have an ls/vtec in my 92 eg hatch. i really want to get it dyno'd but dont know where i can find one in my area, and i dont know how much it'll cost. but my ls/vtec is 7yrs old. its got skunk2 stage 3 cams, stock internals, stock 00 Si b16 head, with an upgraded p28 ecu, dc headers and short ram intake. im hoping to be able to dyno it in sometime but my vtec sounds just like yours. cool video. laters
well its still makes power no matter what except the fact that it is not safe to rev high, especially past 8,000rpm. but anyways it'll still make a difference.
its 5500 rpms not 55000 rpms Formula engines dont even rev that high so what makes you think an LS/vtec with a crappy ass rod ratio is gonna spin to 55000 much less 10K.
hahha, dont snap your rods buddy. ls/vtec isnt good for constant high rpm driving. but im pretty sure you just revved it that high for the dyno. and is that an AEM cold air just angled crazy? hahahha. nice vid
Im gonna be running pretty much the same setup, but with pr3 pistons in an LSvtec and hytech header. Same cams, head, mani, etc. What kinda power did it make?
yeah I heard the 2 stage vtec first one sounds kinda weak but 2 one is hella loud even if it didn't make 300 hp maybe you did but 200 in a civic is decent power... thats what I think.. good enough to take alot of cars on the road with 200hp with light weight car.. decent don't ya'll think?
Your an idoit... if u knew anything about hondas u would know 3 stage vtec only comes in sohc NOT dohc. the sound in the begining was the driver either messing with the throttle or tires chirpd on the dyno.
haha! where did you hear that? stage 3 means nothing, its just a division some companies give suggesting its their greatest (unless they have higher numbers) angle camshaft lobes. do you know what sohc means? The only thing you can be reffering to is vtec-killer camshafts, or non-vtec camshafts, still use both (dohc) cams mate even so! just eliminates the pin system and therefore crossover :)
no one asked, but what was the power?

Yah get a loud intake like a power chamber and your vtec will be loud. my lsvtec sounds the same way with the password jdm power chamber.

NOPE its VTEC not i-VTEC
the older vtec motors had a much more distinct indication that your vtec was on

That VTEC crossover was loud. Pretty sure it's suppose to be a smooth crossover into VTEC.

yeah it's a b18a1 block with p30 pistons and a GSR head. Blox intake manifold and edelbrock header to an apexi N1 exhaust
Mikeahowski 5 years ago
are you running stock internals in the block? What ECU are you using?
si2kcivic 5 years ago
yes it was stock internals with rod bolts revving to about 9k.. I only revved it that high on the dyno to see if it still made power that high up.
Mikeahowski 5 years ago
i hope you're not revving it that high normally, the r/s ratio on ls/vtec is what kills the high end reliability..
daliumong 4 years ago
@Mikeahowski and did the power climb? whats max rpm?

I'm guessing it's a LS block with GSR head....
Since he did say LS/VTEC...
Also looks like a EDLEBROOCK(SP) intake manifold.
