@MJLatora -Interesting TAKE! However - I can give you a whole bunch of Rosicrucian Humour...tying into Excellance of Scripture Understanding. The Salem Witches....in the so-called church are "beyond understanding"...they think someone else can read the bible for them...or pray for them...
Interesting period for the Bobster. Can actually understand the lyrics. Love the play with the chorus girls. The timing/beat just BLOWs me mind. Tarot card references on top of it all.
The HATERS...are still tryin' to take Dylan down! This song sings about those haters. They hate artists, creators, The Creator, productive people, people who Love! Instead they want to control Us by FEAR, manipulation and control - as a cheap IDOLATROUS substititute for Truth and Love!
Great song killer arrangement, instead of dissing the laddies try singing along on their cue then you'll get , Id love to be there with them doing this gem start to finish.
I love this song so much, so I tried to make a lyric video to it, but when I uploaded it, it got blocked because of copyright. Any idea why they would allow this video with the exact same sound track but block mine??
this is my second favorite Bob tune, more need to hear this! so that music hearers realize all over again that Bob Dylan must not be skimmed over, and by skim over I mean only listening to popular albums, ha!
This is a great song, but the chick singers are too prominent. The song didn't need them echoing every line Dylan sings. I think the song would have been stronger if they only "repeated" one of his lines about once every three verses, not after every couplet. Street Legal was a weird album -- Bob's "pop-soul" move, with the sax, and the chick singers , etc. I like Patti Smith's cover version of this better. She gives it more of an organic-folk0-rock quality that I think serves the song better
I heard this song today for the first time ever on a Tuscon radio station..and I came here to hear it over and over and over again. I thought it was new - how is it that I'm still 'discovering' Bob Dylan songs? He is just too brilliant for words.
Can't someone mix out those squalling cows?? Uber tacky. Even for the seventies. And they're not even any good! Just because he was perversely banging them didn't mean that they should have been employed to fuck up what is otherwise a very fine piece.
Love this arrangement with the horns, the girls and Maestro Bob Dylan's so naturally in tune poetic lyrics, visualizations of celebrating life's positive gatherings, yes, with the music emanating from the cosmic origins of Bliss, thank you for posting,
When I was younger, I used to think this was called "16 Years" yet when I looked it up, I couldn't find anything. I asked my parents and they had no idea what I was talking about, but they realized and told me it was called "Changing of the Guards" and if they didn't I would be one piece away from full.
One of the best Bob Dylan songs!!!

Dylan *liked* the off-cue backup girls. It's a capture-the-moment take, like Dylan often does.

Only Dylan. Not William Blake. Not Homer. Not even the Bible. Only Dylan.

a great song with pretty poor production. though i guess bob wouldn't have quite the same charm if he hadn't gradually lost his mind by the late 70s
