  • IMO this song should be used in every funeral, definitely appropriate choice

  • "Is our love strong enough?"

Who else has the word power to leave a song so unresolved other than David? It was brilliant when I first heard it in the late 80s and it's still brilliant today.

  • One of the few Word Smiths left

  • "Swollen angels point and laugh... This time your God is dead."

  • Such feeling...reminds me of The Memories Won't Hide by Jon Lewis Fallows

  • Such talent... almost hard to fathom

    Thank God for David Sylvian

  • great album , reminds me of artrockers Sugarcane Ghost.

  • Don't get much better than this...Massive credit to who put this together,.The visuals, the song, really go hand in hand..

  • My only complaint regarding the Secrets of the beehive album is that Blue of noon (b side of Let the happiness in) isn't present. I never felt that the re-recorded (inferior) version of Forbidden colours sat well on the original c.d. and as much as I like Promise (The cult of Eurydice), I don't think it benefits the record as much as the inclusion of Blue of noon would have

  • pura poesia

  • I don't remember very well. We were sitting there and you told me.. I wouldn't believe. All I had was you and we together. Now it seems not only another life but I don't know if I am the same. Then you listen to a tune and you feel.. Yes there is something that remains.

  • genius

  • A fine piece of music coupled with brilliant, appropriate images. Thanks for uploading such an impressive video.

  • Geez, how long have I owned this CD? Waterfront and Maria are on my top 100 songs list... of all time.

  • Where did you get the images for the video? They're amazing.

  • tears...

  • I agree with KGMD..one of the best. It's enough to erase all the Insipidity around us..almost. "They were pulled from a sinking ship / and saved for Love."

  • Secrets of the beehive: For sure one the best music ever written. For me in the top 5 forever. Its a pity, that it is so underrated, but its logical: Only a few have the ears to hear. So's the album, so's this song: a Masterpiece.

PS: Great Video !! Thx !

  • adorable

  • the quality of drama in this song seems to be unparalleled.

colours and silent places. this time your god is dead. silence

  • one of my fav sylvian's songs soo hard to choose one ,thanks for posting

  • wonderful video to beatiful song from a flawless album. stark images that are somehow beautiful at the same time. first class job. from a sylvian fan of 30 years. thank you

  • Great Music. Great Pictures.

    I think, Scott Walker smiles...

  • David - my beautiful poet and genius, I've adored you err ..... many years now and I'm priviledged enough to say I saw you live with Japan in 1982 - loved you then and love you still - you're truly a one off and I love you xx

  • I am a fan from the first Japan record up till now. Seen him in Rotterdam with fellow dutchman. He still thrills me after all these years. HJ

  • Poetic

  • Amazing.

  • Grande musica!Great music!Great David!I'm waiting for a new concert in Rome, David!

  • Dammit! I've listened to this song hundreds of times....and still I'm sitting here...a 41 years old man....crying like a child. Please David, explain to me....how do u do this?

  • @penusliski Ask Ryuichi!

  • Such a good song

  • Such a beautiful track - pefect.

  • This song makes me cry.

  • ax sweet nostalgia.....on all the lonely nights Sylvian was the one i listened to

  • The perfect close to the Secrets of the Beehive album.

    "Is out love strong enough?"

That line is the last on the album (if you don't include bonus tracks). What a way to end an album....with a question of uncertainty! Beautiful!

  • Masterful and sublime piece of music

  • Sylvian-Sakamoto collaborations usually produced masterpieces. This may be the best of them all.

  • my thoughts exactly.right choice of words:this is probably their best, and indeed a masterpiece,

  • Hauntingly beautiful.

  • Sylvian Sylvian...

You have no idea how much of a presense you have been in my life...

  • I love this mans music. He is a rare musical genius and does get the recognition that he deserves.

  • One of the greatest songs ever written in my humble opinion.Perfection.

  • What happened to Earth ?

"On the waterfront the rain is pouring in my heart

Hear the memories come in waves, raking in the lost and found of years

And though I'd like to laugh at all the things that led me on

    somehow the stigma still remains..."

  • No guitar or percussion.A couple of chord instruments,a piano and a true voice. What is absolute needed to form the perfect song.

    Is our love strong enough?...

  • David as good as ever. But who made the great paintings in the movie?

  • The pics are all photos, aren't they? They're utterly fantastic. Thanks, yaiga.

  • I felt the pain and tears fell. Awesome song

  • love this song. utterly love it. beautiful. love the album.

  • I'm totally with you on this one. Its one of my ALL TIME favourites too. Secrets of the Beehive is as close to a perfect album as they come. Seeing him perform this live a few years ago was simply unforgettable.

  • i have to say that this song is very poignant.....a bit too dark as well, especially that line about empty carriages, is that a metaphor for empty people or departed souls...ooh...plus this song reminds me of that film about that rabbit...methinks it was called watership down....

  • One of my all time favorites! This one got me through my early 20s. Thanks for posting!
