If you wanna play some mingus tunes, try the book more than a play along, by members of the mingus big band. Their recorded version of this tune (quartet format) is amazing, same goe to pithecantropus erectus. Cheers! those 8 mins were perfect
So damn good. I left listening to jazz for quite a few years, but now I've returned and I think it is perhaps the best music ever produced by the human race. Free and easy; often tight and disciplined; sometimes fun sometimes serious, what more could God give us in his love. Om mani peme hum
Hahaha thanks for that. I completely forgot about that comment. I love the Mingus, and I love how my comment got so many negative votes it got hidden and you STILL had to read it. Fuck lil Wayne :P
@ringostar8 hehe, sitting here at 2 AM listening to this song as I stroll along my way, navigating and doing what-not. And I wonder the same exact fucken thing.
It's certainly great, but I am not completely taken by this music. I certainly wouldn't listen to it on a regular basis. I'd suppose people who wouldn't be completely taken by this music might be expecting and also hoping for something else, given whatever kind of music they may have been raised on.
I can understand. I was sort of trying to supplement your statement; it is certainly sometimes baffling that people are not always struck by a particularly great piece of music.
@ringostar8 They are lost if the tune goes off a recognizable melody. I always say improvisation is academic or we are obtuse. Jazz is my form of religiion.
Oh dear lord I love this so much!

I'm a hepcat and it took me years to see a photo of Lester Young wearing his fabled pork pie hat. It does look like one.

right below classical, jazz is my 2nd favorite form of music. i'm usually more into hard-bop, but the smooth stuff is cool too :)

If an alien came to me and said: "I've got 10 minutes to absorb the meaning of the human word 'JAZZ'.", I'd play this track for him.

So damn smooth, none of my friends appreciate jazz. I don't understand how you cannot be completely taken by this music.

I tend to speak fairly hyperbolically on those occasions, that happen so often, in which a song evokes immense emotion from me.

I typed "Regular Basis." I'm not sure how I could help you if you still don't know what I meant.
