Other than the restrictions of small ice surface, they should have gotten another pro(either minor or major) to be on the receiving end of the hit since that person would have probably been better equipped(physically and technically) to take a check than the stuntman. Kip Brennan probably held back a little bit knowing he was going against some random guy instead of someone who plays for a living and knows how to give and take a hit.

This is a bullshit test, the harest and most painful hockey hit is the Open Ice hit. you hit a guy who is skating as fast as he can and you hit him from the front as fast as you can. thats what? 15-18MPH times 2. Ive seen Open Ice hits where the guy gets flipped more then 360 degrees and lands on his ass. tell me thats not harder then this bullshit

it doesnt hurt if u are snug against the boards and take a hit. if someone hits u and u have space between the boards then yes it wouldnt feel great (depending on the speed and mass of the player doing the hitting).

This is good knowledge of checking in general; it's a shame though, that more and more people just resort to checking in the head, and it's not just at the professional level, it's throughout all of hockey.

And yes, if you've never played a hockey, taking an open ice hit is 10x worse than any hit to the boards (assuming your heads protected decently enough).
