  • Ay Assholes....it waz 5 months ago.......im better now jeezz shit stop bashin

  • thanx carl shephard :) i love me some blues and bass

  • lol, got some tiny hands to be playin bass. or you just don't have a good "bass stretch". but that's just me being picky.

  • even if its difficult to understand, thats a great tool for learning how to expand your ability to create basslines. and its based off the Gminor scale, the way i see that is because the minor third on the g string is A#/Bb/3rd fret on g string.

  • Why is he calling it a scale? I have a bass for dummies book and has a list of scales that go through all the notes...

Sorry if this is a dumb question. =/

  • simple and great video a lot of help:)

  • What cost bass guitar ?

  • @Kaustu6h wow.. just wow

  • Christ, he's just trying to show people something nice and easy and he gets flamed for not playing well. Why don't you ask him for your money back? Damn.

  • @bolloxinator

lol, it's YouTube, what do we expect? & people forget that's what the bass sounds like naked without it being all dolled up with effects or ANY editing, which is what we're used to hearing on recordings. They need to get over it.

  • łeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee kuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurwa

  • @FIREFOX274

uh either practice or quiting? lol

Dude get use to haha my fingers still hurt time to time, but its worth it right? I mean your playing the worlds best instrument!

  • G-String

  • CRAAP THIS IS BULLSHIT!!! and my pinky hurts man cmon theres gotta be a better way

  • @FIREFOX274 You're whining like my grandma. If you don't want to hurt your fingers then go play the harp.

  • @eltrek00 I've been told that hurts as well :P

  • @FIREFOX274

Quitcha bitchin cause all i hear is your vagina flapping

  • Haha

  • @FIREFOX274 Try flatwound or Tapewound strings. They are easier on the hands, plus I prefer the smoother tone. The only drawback is that you lose some highs. D'addario Chromes are good.

  • @FIREFOX274 Guitar Hero. LMFAO.

  • @FIREFOX274 u know NOTHING is easy so just practice and dont whine

  • prfff....

  • Hey, this sounds pretty cool when I play it. I am just learning on my recently acquired Carvin. I know about zilch so far but I really love the sound of a bass guitar and want to learn to play.

  • Music makes no sense to me... its amazing people high as a kite can write music. Just saying in general, not about this video at all.

  • @67xn Look up the video, "how music works" on here. That should help some.

  • whats a string and b string and stuff like that?

  • @chilibro the most basses have 4 strings. the lowest is the E(the fattest), than the A, than the D and least the G string (the thinnest).

When you have a 5 stringed guitar, the B has a lower tone than the E.

These are just the names of the tones.

    GL

  • @ProcyonNL but would that change if you tuned it differently?

  • @chilibro yes, the standard tuning is just E, A, D, G But if you tune your E string to the D (drop D) it will have a lower sound, a D.

  • @ProcyonNL so if you lower the sound of the e it'd be a d and there'd be two d's?

  • thanks!

  • despite what other people have been saying, i think this is a brilliant lesson, well explained and useful for beginners. Thank you :)

  • hey dont hate he is taking time out of his day to try to help you dumbasses

  • local redneck + bass + some paper with what he has to say = expert village!

  • is that dude on drugs?! or he's just retard?ಠ_ಠ

  • why you guys hate expert village?and what is that

  • @satelitejack Dont talk expert village wont teach you!!!

  • 4 fingers = 4 frets; not 3

  • I get nothing out of these bass lessons from expert village. Im better of bein self taught

  • why do I even open videos like this I'd rather watch my family die than this shit

  • Idiots he didn't show a riff it was a scale. Yes it sounded like a riff. He showed a true blues scale in a major pentatonic scale. I've been playing bass guitar for 15 or 16 years and lead for 9 years. I much prefer the bass. Y? Well the fingering is different and the sound is different. Example this video. Sounds like a riff but Its not. Its a blues scale in a major pentatonic scale. Blues r usually in minor pentatonic. So quit bitching and have fun

  • "yeah, well i've got stupid facial hair, and i can hold this stringed instrument thing, so yeah,..."

  • This didn't teach me a scale, it taught me a riff. WHY IS IT LABELED AS HOW TO PLAY A BLUES SCALE??!! Ugh, don't try to freakin teach people stuff if you think a riff is a scale, or do know and just don't care.

  • @generictitlemaster

Looks like you've still got some way to go before understanding theory. He WAS playing a scale. He was playing 5ths and octaves in G minor.

  • im offended that this was in the suggestions of a Cannibal Corpse vid!

  • i thought this was very helpful. i'm just starting out and i will take any advice i can get. thanks

  • I think it's funny and a little sad when bassists are playing the same notes along with a guy doing a wicked solo on guitar and no one can hear the bass! Turn that shit up like TOOL, Mudvayne, and Korn do!

  • @smileyman455 agree.....especially mudvayne......ryan martinie is probably the only bassist i would rate who's creativity is close to les claypools....considering he plays in a metal band there is some amazing riffs in mudvayne songs. fieldy's playing is simple, but fast....oh so very fast lol

  • @cameronj279 The job of the bassist is not to play riffs, you leave that to the guitarist. The job of the bass is to carry the groove in lock-step with the drummer.

  • @acmeseed if everybody thought like you then music would never progress. if you think that music needs to be 'guitars plays riff', 'bassist repeats a groove' then you can't be much of an open minded musician.

  • @cameronj279 You are right, that was not very open minded, next time we practice we will try assigning other tasks to the instruments, let's see .... the piano will play percussion, the drums will play the piano, the guitar will sing, the singer will play bass and the bass will play lead guitar. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Not everyone needs progression in their music. Some are happy playing old standards and making the house rock.

  • @acmeseed music has always needed progression...without progression techniques like tapping etc would never have been discovered...and you're a complete moron if you think i meant the drums will play piano. so you think a song should just be a guitarist doing a solo, a bassist hitting the same note for the full song? and "the singer will play bass" many bassists are singers....look up les claypool....or is he a bad bassist because he doesn't always repeats boring basslines?

  • @cameronj279 Settle down sister, I was making a joke, but don't let that stop you from hurling personal insults, heck, if you ain't got something intelligent to say insult.

  • @acmeseed pretty bad joke, eh?

  • are you high?

  • if he's an expert then why the hell is he using his pinky when his index is only 3 frets away.

  • @steveexplodes Are you joking?

  • weird, i was viewing an awesome instrumental cannibal corpse vid and saw this in the suggestions.. :/??

  • @lleo11 lol i came here from the same video xD

  • I liked this video. I played along. I learned. it was fun.

  • bass is awesome, i love it. i also play a lil myself

  • WATCH MY BASS SOLO,PEOPLE

    It´s cool

  • i love "expert" village cuz they are all n00bs

  • WERE IS DA F STRING

  • say what you will , retard or not, this man just taught me something, WOOP!

  • is it hard to play bass if you already play guitar?

  • @AzianPersuasion444 No , if you use a pick . Just remember: you wont get as much attention as the Guitarist or the Singer , But your still the Back bone of your Band.

  • @Tackington thats fine, ive played guitar for like 6 years and i thought id switch it up

  • @AzianPersuasion444 i played guitar (self-taught) for about 2-3 years and i switched to bass a year ago out of boredom and i like it a lot more and im a lot better on bass than i am on guitar thats for sure..but it really isnt hard to switch all u need to do is get used to the plucking unless you want to use a pick but i only use picks for metal songs i prefer to use my fingers for everything else...the size is the only big difference but it was like 2nd nature to me

  • @AzianPersuasion444

    its easier n my experience.

  • @AzianPersuasion444

No, it's easier. I know from experience

  • @AzianPersuasion444 no its easy

  • @TristanMachuwano1998 IT depends on the bassline. A trained monkey could play some shitty greenday bassline, but if you're talking about something like les claypool or some of the harder RHCP stuff then its just as hard as guitar.

  • @TristanMachuwano1998 I'm actually pretty confident that playing bass is in fact harder than playing guitar. No offense to guitar players, it is an AWESOME instrument, but playing bass is harder if you go waaay ahead of crappy greenday, or so so RHCP, to some real challenges. For instance, anything Victor Wooten, John Myung, Billy Sheehan, Les Claypool, or any other really talented bass players play. Look for "Fiku Miku Bass Funk" and you'll see some good bass playing.

  • @TristanMachuwano1998 In addition to the variety of techniques bass playing has, due to its bigger, tougher strings, it requires much more strength to play bass. Also, the wide frets on the bass make it harder to play scales or chords. Anybody can press guitar strings, but to endure an entire gig playing bass is not for everyone. No disrespect, but you should really inform yourself before you post anything.

  • @AzianPersuasion444 no, while i don't agree that one is harder than the other, bass is basicly a guitar with the B and high E strings taken off.Once you get used to the wide frets(wich don't take long to get used to) and your own plucking style, it's almost the same thing.

  • Dear Sirs! Don`t be a snobs! I`m not a musician - only amateur. But if my bass player long time ago can had such lessons.. all may be another way! Very good for the first trying bass.

  • By the way sorry if that sounded a bit harsh, I know you guys probably had good intentions, but the more likely (and less expensive) option has got to be said first.

  • If you dig bass, check out learn4stringbass. The guy's amazing.

  • Thanks but my bass keeps getting fret buzz does anybody no wat I can do to prevent this from happening?????? Hheellppp!

  • @Cookboy100 Hard to say without seeing your bass but I think your strings are too low. Adjust the neck or the stringheight from the bridge.

  • @Cookboy100 take it to a music shop and ask them to raise you action. i could be too low causing fret buzz

  • @Cookboy100 For fucks sake people! What bar0soap and wailey said may indead be true but the first thing you absolutley must check first is that you place you finger just right behind the fret,

not in the middle of the space between frets, not on the fret but just directly behind the fret. Chances are that'll be your problem it's a common mistake to make when you start and once you know how to place your fingers right it just ceases to be a problem, unless of course your action is to low.

  • hey guys,i play guitar, never played a bass and i wanted to ask about the volume because every bass video on youtube has a very low volume and i can't hear anything,so is this the highest it can get or do bassists just hate to increase the volume that much?

  • @CYBERDUDE95 bass guitar is supposed to be bass, and not volume. if you want volume you can learn just electric guitar. bass is about precussion. the bassist and the drummer are the heart, the beat of the band.

you can`t actually record all that bass that is coming from amp in some flash video, but you should go to a friend or a shop that has basses and electric guitars, and if you don`t know how to play just ask them to play so`d that you can hear a sample of the instrument

  • @CYBERDUDE95

You obviously don't know what or how to listen for it. The bass is usually in a good mix only slightly lower than the the guitar in dB it's just that someone who doesn't play music won't know how to find it.

And bass in the end is a comping instrument that provides a pulse for the rest of the band to follow and not to wank around like the guitar player or create the power like the drummer.

  • @CYBERDUDE95 What those guys said is true but there might be a much simpler explanation. It might be your speakers that doesn't provide enough bass, use headphones or proper speakers.

  • the best thing that can happen to any bass player who wants to get better is take an ax and stump off that useless ring finger, that 1960 bullshit of 4 finger space one per fret is the worst habit any bass player could learn.

  • @KenBernaerts, the best thing any bass player can do to get better is take an axe and stump off that slow moving useless ring finger, the 1 finger per fret is bullshit.

  • @KenBernaerts actually he is correct saying to use the pinking. If he was teaching normal electric guitar than you would be correct, but with bass guitar when you are playing lower on the neck you put you ring and pinky together because once you become more advanced you will be able to play much faster if you learn that way.

  • is it just me or does this guy look like hes baked out of his mind?

  • @KannibasKing420 LOL that was the first thing i thought

  • is bass guitar easy at learning? :D

  • @ilioupolh13 yea it just takes time . its all about the rythem. drums and bass control the rythem of the song . usin finger instead of pick is easier. but might take awhile for your fingers to get used to . theyll get blisters at first. but youll get it its easy n fun

  • @ilioupolh13 Depends if you want to actually get good or just play root notes with a pick.

  • sure don't like this new transcript feature on these videos. i can't watch any handwork with the words taking up th most important part of the screen. this seems to apply to all of the expert village videos. learning is tough, watching finger work helps.

  • @Leafland99 no kidding this video is useless with this 'feature'.

  • @MrDannnxD I think they agree to make videos for expert village just because they are retards

  • @MrDannnxD these mother fucking videos have helped me alot. But, he needs to speak up damn it.

  • @MrDannnxD because it is cheap

  • Expert or not, it's still a village =)

  • @MarkTheStout actually i heard it was a township

  • @MrDannnxD every video i watch by these assholes sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MrDannnxD Because they need to cater to brain-dead people like yourself.

  • @MrDannnxD

why don't douchebags explain why they hate and give arguments? What is wrong with this lesson?

  • @hentajus nothing for playing simple-assed box patterns, which isn't the pentatonic scale, in order to be doing an actual scale you have to put at least one minor note in the mix. BTW that's where your pinky comes in super handy! always work the pinky!

  • @hentajus shut up

  • @MrDannnxD

    Way to go.

  • @hentajus this is not really a lesson dude, this "teacher" here only shows you the form of the scale, not really what's behind it, the theory and stuff.

2nd there are 4 frets and this guy uses 4 fingers on the 3 frets,he should use 3 fingers for 3 frets, each finger with his fret. He's only showing a progression...

  • now if you can teach me braindrill stuff... id be impressed.

  • good playin

  • bassmania.webs.com/

  • just 4 string on the bass??? wow i didnt know that! it is easier to play?

  • @pufixas not necessarely, it is in, my opinion harder to get notes out of the bass for 2 reasons

1 u need to press harder on the fret

2 finger picking is harder (4 me)

  • @DidYourMomOSaurus You don't necessarily need to press harder. Some basses have extremely fast action, for all your shredding needs. Also, if you needed to press too hard, tapping would be nearly impossible, which would suck.

  • Expert village, I hate you

  • damn four string bass looks so damn small im used to like 7 strings shit lol

  • Its sad but my hands are too small for play bass :(

  • @isitha007 hey thats what i tot, there are bass exercises which helps the stretch of ur fingers.

  • @unibitri Ya, its called practice!

  • is it weird to play with a pick

  • @llS2639ll nope.. not really. Some people always play with a pick.

  • @llS2639ll I for one hate the feel and sound of it, but many people disagree. With music do what's comfortable and sounds good to you, just keep your ears open and you can do anything :]

  • how to play bass guitar solo in 21 guns could you give me a chord for it . thanks

plaese reply with the chors for 21 guns and also im yours thank you

  • @pulgo09 Just google it -_-

  • @pulgo09 ?? the bass usually doesn't use chords. only in certain instances and cases like in funk or jazz it's more used than any other genre. 21 guns is only about like 2 strings i think. i'll see what i can do for you bud.

  • just got my guitar todayy :D

  • he looks like ricky from trailer park boyz

  • That's not a Pentatonic Blues Scale. You're simply doing a blues shuffle on the 7ths. G7 C7 and D7 with a IV to V chromatic turnaround. Pentatonic scales are the I, II, III, V, & VI scale degrees. BIG difference.

  • @MonkeyManBlues You're right, he's not doing the Blues, relative or minor pentatonic scale. The major and parallel pentatonic scales basically (I explain it this way for expedience purposes) use the Root, 2,3,5,and 6 of the Ionian and Dorian respectively, but the Blues pentatonic (parent scale of the Blues scale) omits the 4th degree of the basic Blues scale.

  • anoche hubo fiesta, en el club de blues local.

  • thanks for your teaching.i'm a beginner and this really helps.

  • can you give me one of your guitar?.lol;D

  • i dont think cannibal corpse has ever used a pentatonic blues scale. im just sayin...

  • @yoyoyowutisup Lol, I'm am one of the few people that watch this video that gets that joke..And its probably true, probably not. But we can both agree that Alex Webster is a beast.

  • You should of positioned the text boxes somewhere where it doesn't impair what people are trying to see you do.

  • thanks for the lesson found it helpful

  • Cake I will survive bassline. Revolves around this

  • A little note:why does he play pentatonic with only index and pinky? It's easier to play it with index and ring! I just don!t understand this.

  • depends on your hands.. for some people its's easier to play like this.

  • for that money, u should have bought a flat buddy :)

  • question to every1... how much should i spend on my first bass guitar?? just want to get somewat of an idea of the money im a gonna spent when i buy a bass guitar....

  • search Academy's Bass. They are cheaps.

  • Hey brother. I'd recommend a squire vintage modified. I got mine a year ago and would recommend it to anyone starting out, or someone who doesn't want their nice fender beat up on the road. For a starter bass, it can't be beaten, and that's no lie. check it out.

  • about 100 150

  • yeah you should probably see if any one of your friends is selling an old bass orwhate ever, but probably around 200 and 150

  • @818KLOWNER

i've bought an epiphone thunderbird goth and i've spent 250 euros (soemthing like 300 dollars)

  • @britishman2 as did i, however it isn't my first.

  • @818KLOWNER around $300

  • I dont know if it'll help now but

My first bass was a Jim Deacon (NEVER RECOMMENDED) that cost £109

My second was a Cort C4 Special edition that cost £400

my current is a Warwick STD5 Corvette Ash which is worth about £1,000 (Depends where you look)

I'd say for your first bass, if you know nothing on bass yet then no more than £200

if you know things already but are still just starting then no more than £300.

  • I suggest that you get to a good standard for a beginner / average player before you buy your second bass

If you can make a piece of shit sound good then imagine what you can make a piece of gold sound like

But still remember, you can polish a piece of shit ...but its still a piece of shit.

Recommended basses - Ibanez, Epiphone (NOT THE THUNDERBIRD), Cort, Fender, OCCASIONALLY Yamaha...

They'll all be fine for cheap basses.

  • I've had my £400 Cort sounding better than my £1,000 Warwick bass before. It's set up perfectly to my liking with Roto Flatwound Jazz strings which compliment the bass perfectly.

I'm still trying different things with the Warwick.

Just be sure to try a lot of basses before you buy if you can. If you cant then ask for recommendations in a local music shop and have someone demonstrate their stock.

Then find it cheaper online lol

    Sorry for the long read

  • just buy a fucking jazz bass, is all you should of said.

  • No

I've never played a Fender that i've liked but i have played cheaper basses that i've liked.

Its not as simple as that.

My Cort is good because i take care of it and i put in time to think about what amp setting and strings compliment it.

Get a bass you're comfortable with that sounds good and focus on the look last

  • I said this because, the jazz bass is a great all around bass. there is a reason fender has been making them for so long. its easy to play, has great action, and Im sure noone that has ever played one has had anything to complain about.

  • It has a great action?

Do they have fixed bridges? If not then its totally adjustable so that's a totally invalid comment. I have played a couple of Fender basses (not many) and never any above £500 I think, but every one I've played sounded and played like an expensive shit.

Maybe its just against my preference but I wont argue for a big name if I don't like their instrument(s).

  • You guys including the "teacher" in the vid should listen, read and get the principles of music as seen by Allan Holdsworth, he is really inspiring and liberating.

He has scales who are 3-4 octaves long for instance, he just broke up and extended classical theory. Yet his principles are really easy to comprehend.

  • Checkout "George Russel - Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organisation".....

"Fixes" 350 years of "diatonics" and brings it back to a unified harmonic universe.

  • @mryellow123 Alright, gonna check it out, thanks... sounds really interesting.

  • man, this isn't a pentatonic blues man. It is called 12 bar blues..

  • you should play it with your ring finger, not with the pinkie.

  • You put too much unneeded stress on your wrist if you'd use your fingers in a one-fret-per-finger setup. If your playing low on the neck-that is, low notes-use your pinky.

  • @KenBernaerts Music doesn't care what finger you use.

  • @leopower7

    hhahhahahahahahah

  • @leopower7 Yes but economy of motion does, and that is extremely important for playing at any level of real technical proficiency.

  • @hojima exactly, more so if the video is catered to beginners, it shouldnt be teaching bad habits!

  • @KenBernaerts Why?

  • @KenBernaerts no its good practise to use the pinky, when you get onto higher levels of playing your life is a hell of a lot easier if you can use your pinky aswell as the other 3 fingers

  • Can i play BASS in a LEAD one?

  • sure you can play bass on a acoustic because a bass guitar is a guitar that only have low notes

  • can i play Bass in an Acoustic guitar?
