wait did the cure ball hit the yellow strip ball at the end? was there another ball behind the solid yellow? I didn't see the cue ball hit the yellow strip ball?
@nuocmat I'm guessing that his object ball was the solid yellow (1 ball) which was up against the stripe yellow (9) ball. Legal shot (and win of game) to hit his object ball first then {anything can happen to} hit the (9) ball down.
Not sure I'm 100% right, so I'm open to correction, but I'm pretty sure that's what happened here.
Reyes IS a player's player! I've viewed Mosconi and the rest, but none compares! Lucky he's alive, playing still and I get to watch him practice at Hardtimes Bellflower whenever he comes to the U.S. for tournaments.
@johnnyfin1 ... rONNIE SULLIVAN PLAYED SNOOKET AT HIGHEST LEVEL BUT COULDNT WIN A 9 BALL OR 10 BALL MAJOR TOURNAMENT... REYES- AND THIS IS NOT A MYTH- PLAYED SNOOKER FOR THE FIRST TIME AND RUN A CENTURY--- IF HE STAYED PALYING SNOKER HE WOULD HAVE DOMINATED IT
Reye's is the greatest up until this point in time. These trick shots really are basic compared to the genius idea's and shots he comes up with in a match. These particular trick shots are just set ups and can be made by almost anyone with some practice. If you check out the book Byrnes treasury of trick shots you'll be surprised to find that many of these shots you thought were new have been around for 50-200yrs. People just keep coming up with variations of them. An eye opener for me anyways.
What?? That second shot did what?? I don't know from pool, just how hard is that? Someone that knows about pool compare that second shot to something I would understand.
@Dopplershift I'm going to say if you practice it, you can get it but to me, the amazing part is thinking up the shot. He's jumping off the point of the pocket I believe (or the jaw). I've seen him bank off the point in one pocket a few times and in a 10 ball match. Adding the jump is something special
Continuing on about GOAT, others have done pretty amazing feats. Ronnie O'Sullivan's number of max breaks, Semih Sayginer's domination of 3 cushion billiards, and the guy who played a perfect set of 9 ball. I can't remember who it was, I think it was a Pinoy, but he broke and ran 11 in a row during a tournament.
@FleshFlake t'was Jose "Amang" Parica. Who was once believe the best player in the philippines, better than Reyes. But because of the problems he had to face including being jailed, his game went down. As to Reyes, he continued to play competitive pool, but I still Amang play in the US circuit but nowehere near his 70s and 80s play. He used to dominate billiards in the philippines
reyes stacked up against the greatest players of all time .... no one will come close including the great mosconi- with all due respect..... at 57 he is still on top... while his contemporaries are retired or cant compete at highest level...
indeed... no doubt... the top players today are superior than the players of the past specially with the asian powerhouse such as taiwan...
Reyes is hands down the greatest pool player of all time
@houstexman29 The Magician is truly Amazing,Also (Bustamonte)But no one on this Planet will ever run 526 balls in a straight pool match again. The man (Mosconi)was and is truly The best Pool Player that walked the earth(Along with Ralph Greenleaf). There probably wiil never be another 11 rack run in 9 ball again.(Earl Strickland). The Athletes of this age are Superior for the most part,But the records of the Masters of old shall rarely be beaten.
@aikkia1 .. Mosconi was great but mostly myth--he ran 526 on a 5inches pocket and an 8 footer--thats a fact.. and on a practice-- still great but nothing so great-- john Schmidt and others ran 400plus in a tournament-- now thats hard...Stricland-- is good but not good enough--nothing special about him- he was tested in Hongkong on a race to 300 with reyes and fell apart
greenleaf is great too--- but no one as great and "MAGICAL" as REYES- ran 2 sets of 15 balls -3racks ina row left handed
@houstexman29 the color of money match between strickland and efren was a race to 120 and efren won only by 3 racks with an amazing run at the end of the match. strickland deserves a lot more credit than you are giving him, he is probably the best 9 ball player we've seen in this generation, but thats strictly for 9 ball. efren is much better all around.
@vincentwu ..i agree about a#@$%@le earl.... But still efren has to be the greatest of all time- all of them are just ordinary stuff you see one another do-- Reyes is magical and played all games at the highest level including 3cushion and snooker...In fact he was voted by his peers conducted recently-- 80% of his fellow pro players voted him as their idol and greatest of all time--- peace
@vincentwu I've watched the full length a couple times now and Earl did beat himself especially at the end he got frustrated and stopped trying as hard to win. Even today Earl is still one of the top 9 ball players in the world but his break has slowed down some, SVB probably has the best break because of consistency.
@Merdesigns in terms of stringing racks together, earl is definitely one of the best. when his breaks are going, these open tables are just WAY TOO EASY for him. the ridiculous amount of 9 ball titles for earl proves it. SVB is very promising, but seems to be one of the very few Americans that can still compete at the top level..
@poolchamp15 It was an 8-foot table with bucket pockets at an exhibition. It was definitely an amazing feat but other people have done better. I can't remember who it was and I don't fee like looking it up right now. There's some debate on how great that run was. It'd be a lot harder to run that many on a 9ft Diamond but then again the equipment now is a lot higher quality and much more consistent so it might be easier in that respect.
@notbestfriends You are mistaken. Mosconi was one of the all time greats, but he did not have the type of competition that Reyes has faced over the last 25 years. The top players of today play better than the top players of Mosconi's era, including Mosconi. He ran 526 on a 4x8 with 5" pockets. John Schmidt ran 404 on a 9" table with 4" pockets. That is tougher to do than running 526 on a 4x8 with gigantic pockets.
@notbestfriends It is completely questionable. Others have supposedly run more than that. Also, Mosconi, much like most of the players of that time, played 14.1. Efren plays everything and he plays everything really really well. It is my opinion that Efren Reyes is the GOAT. But then again Mike Sigel thinks Mike Sigel is the GOAT so who's to say.

Reyes is a fine player, but Mosconi, with a 526 straight pool run & 15 World Titles makes him unquestionably the G.O.A.T.
