what's the deal? As seen from outside, Wing Chun people learn all that clever sticky hands stuff and then never use it in sparring? I'm not sure I understand this
@ennot In order to do sticky hands as people are used to see it, they have to do it without boxing gloves. Secondly, you have to be really close in and your opponent must have a strong guard up to stick to. If your opponent is less skilled, it is easier to bash him with punches that he can not block than to stick to his hands. But if you look closely, they use sticky hands from time to time, but only if they get close and have to rely on their reflexes instead of eyes.
guys the people cannot learn wing chun in just five days... they just learn how to punch and how to stand. And they couldnt use neither punches or stances. it just a Tv show. they cannot give u everything just the basic idea....
@AndreasAT8 exactly. Why are people criticizing the technique so much. You have to realize they had FIVE DAYS of training in Wing Chun. It takes a lot of time to learn an art.
As much as I love to see this on mainsteam tv....the ving tswun in here is not very good...now...maybe they were taking it easy or maybe they were just focusing on punching...but i didn't see anything but punching while they were sparring...And don't tell me you cant do a tung sau with sparring gloves on...
I noticed in this series they mostly focused on the punching, none of the other hands (tan sau, bong sau, and fuk sau).
Also, it would be nice if they emphasized that chi sau is an exercise, not a fighting technique, as people tend to see it and claim that's what Wing Chun is.
the translator is a hong kong drama series actor, when was thie fight quest from? wondering if that guy got an acting gig from being a translator for this episode, lol

wing chun is a joke. If the wing chun punch was trully effective it would be seen in boxing or MMA? Why is it that 99.99999 % of all MMA fighters learn boxing as their main punshing art instead of wing chun? Probably because wing chun doesn't work.
By the way its either wing chun or wing choon and not wing TSUN!.. wing chun & wing choon was created a few hundred years ago .. wing TSUN - i have never heard of its originality..no wonder this episode never showed on TV after the FQ guys found out they got screwed
if that was wing chun, all the wing tsun guys should go learn boxing! and the sparring in this episode is a joke - the wing tsun guy got beaten -so much for the straight punch.. so i am saying the real wing chun is not the straight punch..what the wing tsun guys seem to be teaching is just do the straight punch and they punching like mad ppl..so i am saying that's not the traditional wing chun.
FQ has gone to the wrong wing chun school, all the episodes i am looking at is just sparring sparring sparring.. traditional wing chun is not like that..sorry this LT wing tsun lost it, this is not the traditional way.
One of the most serious defects of Leung Ting's system is the placement of >80% of the body weight on the trailing leg. We can see the result in this clip- the LT student bobs his head back A LOT trying to dodge. That is not controlling the line!
If my observation is incorrect, then how can a boxer having less than a week's exposure beat the LT student at his own game? The message is Why pay years of tuition? You can master Leung Ting's system in under a week.
@DizzyDerwish who cares to master his system when what he is teaching is not even applicable - who cannot make a straight punch? why did his student lose to the boxer? the answer is easy - the student has learnt the wrong principles and what he practised has been wrong - this means his master know nothing. If based on a few "principles" he thinks he know wing chun or other martial art - then he is ignorant.

Yes normal people would but one of them is a MMA fighter and the other is a ex-military solider. The training there would exhaust the hell out of us and leave us with injuries but you'd think someone with their level of training could go to at least one place without getting a injury. Some of them are way more brutal like that Krav Maga but others aren't that bad.
@JuniorArtist27 Knee injuries are kinda common in Wing Tsun. It's a style of Wing Chun, wich has more weight on one leg than the traditional styles have. If you have the wrong angle with your knees to your hip, you WILL get an injury. Normally, the sifu tells you how to angle yourself in the first lesson to avoid that, but Leung Ting seems to have missed that...
@JuniorArtist27 Yeah its kinda bound to happen when you watch threw the episodes you can see the bruises and swelling , why dont you go try One of these fighting style's at a black belts pace when your a beginner ... even better dont do it for 5days like these try 2 you would FAIL

It doesn't matter. Satan still believes in you, especially Loser Atheists with dim music "careers" like you. It's ok. All you have to do is play your crappy music backwards so it makes sense and choke the shit out of your bandmates and your career will take off.
Very closed and cramped, also you have to be mindful of your sensitive environment. This forces you to effectively use power in a delicate and tight space. :D
This is really terrible lineage that they choose they should of used either Ip Ching or Ip Chung. i guess they used a wingchun school that they can at least spar and stuff for television purposes.
- use chi sau to find an opening THEN unload and beat the snot out of them. In other words, you don't have to enter with chain punches right off the bat...throw something in there, find the bridge - it's ok to chill out for a moment to get your bearings and let the enemy try (key word: TRY) to do something. Once that's done and you have control, you can feel for an opening and go for it. Could be the way they were training - it's hard to do it that way with those big gloves on.
2:24 "It's just two guys wailing away at each other"
That's why I can't fully get behind Leung Ting. I went to a Leung TIng school for about a year, and have seen a fair amount of his particular version of Wing Chun. "Wailing away at each other" pretty much describes his take on it. This is not to say I'm not down with the Leung Ting level of aggressiveness, but after a few years under a different lineage (Ip Ching) I try to apply it a little differently -
seems like boxe not traditional wing chun, where is the inteligency martial arts over there? We know leuting came from Ip man, but this is what people dont understand,...that every one have the own style, and if u copy someone... u will be forever a bad copy.... jeet kune do its a Bruce lee expression, his body, mind expression of the wing chun...but the people doesnt understand that and try to be like him.. Or punch like this video, like boxe, kick and trhow all the body =P
there's no such thing as counting point and no wing chun punch and kick that count. That just stupid, a punch is a punch and a kick is a kick. jeez, any punch that hit count and any kick that hit count.
I completely though respectfully disagree, you have to learn how to fight outside a certain range as well as in. Chi sao is a great tool and the cornerstone of Wing Chun but honestly its not all that the art is.
I agree that free sparring must be a part of training in WC, but Chi Sao is not just for close range fighting! Chi Sao actually teaches the person how to fight long range as well among other benefits.. Though this might sound stupid it is true.. Just not all lineages understands that.. If you can't see how this is true please say so..
bare in mind I havent trained it in a long(now do yang tai chi and northern shoalin) while though i do occasionally recieve lessons from my first sifu. Please, enlighten me.
Chi Sao is done in a circular way to cover all possible contact point among other benefits.. Simply said the hand going from Tan Sau to Bong Sau covers all possible attacks coming above your hand and the hand doing the Fook Sau covers all possible attacks coming under your hand.. Thats if ofcourse assuming one isn't chasing hands but pointing to the target(preferably along the center) which ofcourse has many benefits.. Keep in mind i am probably one of the worst students in my lineage..
to me, there's is no long range fighting because if someone want to hit you they have to get their fist to you. In that sense it's short range or whatever you call it. Chi Sao is to deal with whatever come to you. The calmer you are the better you can deal with it.
yes, I also agree. It's before contact we can it long range. Because in Wing Chun after the contact we do not want to let go or in other word "get unsticky". This is what sticky hand is training. Stick with the oponent because once you retrieve you've open up and you're more vulnerable to say the least. More comments are welcome.
To me sticking hands is a mean to hit the opponent so i don't want to stick with them.. If my arms meet with the opponent's arms either while countering or while attacking i try to remove that barrier and continue to hit the opponent.. This goes with one of the basic requirements of Wing Chun that says "intercept what come; pursue what departs; when the hands are freed of obstructions, attack indistinctively".
we've finally disagreeing on something and I think that a good thing b/c this is where the learning and thinking start.lol. your wing chun saying is different than mine(well not mine but from my teacher, you know what i mean :). Mine is " Accept what comes, escort what goes, and when there's no obstructions..attack" .. So I'm not suppose to be afraid of the punch, after the contact stick with it, if the punch retract the oponent is force to be on defense b/c i will escort what goes,
and of course attack if there no obstruction. Because of this I see that in the video the way that they spar have little use in Wing Chun training. More like MMA or boxing.
However, there will be many wing chun people disagreeing with me because the way they learned it. Different teachers interpret the system differently and taught it differently. Because each hand in Wing Chun can be interpret differetn ways, different ideas arise from the system. We can see this as a beauty of art and not to agrue over it, just friendly discussion for more exposure to the art. The beauty is that the same hand can be use and differently but still have an effective result
I see different ways people interepret and use tan sau here and it still work. I don't agree with most of them but hey you must respect other martial artist. I come to agree most with the school and the line of Chu Tsung Tin. To me there are two approach to learning the system or maybe three. First is the external way, second is internal way, and maybe the three is mixed, but maybe mix is not a good idea
Nice train 2 weeks and beat Leung Ting students with an easy, playing their stupid game.

maybe you should think before you write.

This is really terrible lineage that they choose they should of used either Ip Ching or Ip Chung. i guess they used a wingchun school that they can at least spar and stuff for television purposes.

there is so much more to wing chun than just storming in and chain punching.

I agree with you that LT is bad, but...WC as a system when properly trained is anything but weak and pathetic. WSL folks know this all too well...
phama1978 3 years ago 5
seems like boxe not traditional wing chun, where is the inteligency martial arts over there? We know leuting came from Ip man, but this is what people dont understand,...that every one have the own style, and if u copy someone... u will be forever a bad copy.... jeet kune do its a Bruce lee expression, his body, mind expression of the wing chun...but the people doesnt understand that and try to be like him.. Or punch like this video, like boxe, kick and trhow all the body =P
nopapitcholico 3 years ago 2
there's no such thing as counting point and no wing chun punch and kick that count. That just stupid, a punch is a punch and a kick is a kick. jeez, any punch that hit count and any kick that hit count.
DungHo51 3 years ago 3
Wing Chun should not spar like that, only sticky hand is wing chun sparring. Sparring like that doesn't train Wing Chun sense. Just make no sense
DungHo51 3 years ago
I completely though respectfully disagree, you have to learn how to fight outside a certain range as well as in. Chi sao is a great tool and the cornerstone of Wing Chun but honestly its not all that the art is.
Bastion83 3 years ago
I agree that free sparring must be a part of training in WC, but Chi Sao is not just for close range fighting! Chi Sao actually teaches the person how to fight long range as well among other benefits.. Though this might sound stupid it is true.. Just not all lineages understands that.. If you can't see how this is true please say so..
triancirc 3 years ago
bare in mind I havent trained it in a long(now do yang tai chi and northern shoalin) while though i do occasionally recieve lessons from my first sifu. Please, enlighten me.
Bastion83 3 years ago
Chi Sao is done in a circular way to cover all possible contact point among other benefits.. Simply said the hand going from Tan Sau to Bong Sau covers all possible attacks coming above your hand and the hand doing the Fook Sau covers all possible attacks coming under your hand.. Thats if ofcourse assuming one isn't chasing hands but pointing to the target(preferably along the center) which ofcourse has many benefits.. Keep in mind i am probably one of the worst students in my lineage..
triancirc 3 years ago
to me, there's is no long range fighting because if someone want to hit you they have to get their fist to you. In that sense it's short range or whatever you call it. Chi Sao is to deal with whatever come to you. The calmer you are the better you can deal with it.
DungHo51 3 years ago
I agree.. Then please allow me to replace long range fighting with before hand or leg contact as this is what i meant by long range..
triancirc 3 years ago
yes, I also agree. It's before contact we can it long range. Because in Wing Chun after the contact we do not want to let go or in other word "get unsticky". This is what sticky hand is training. Stick with the oponent because once you retrieve you've open up and you're more vulnerable to say the least. More comments are welcome.
DungHo51 3 years ago
To me sticking hands is a mean to hit the opponent so i don't want to stick with them.. If my arms meet with the opponent's arms either while countering or while attacking i try to remove that barrier and continue to hit the opponent.. This goes with one of the basic requirements of Wing Chun that says "intercept what come; pursue what departs; when the hands are freed of obstructions, attack indistinctively".
triancirc 3 years ago
we've finally disagreeing on something and I think that a good thing b/c this is where the learning and thinking start.lol. your wing chun saying is different than mine(well not mine but from my teacher, you know what i mean :). Mine is " Accept what comes, escort what goes, and when there's no obstructions..attack" .. So I'm not suppose to be afraid of the punch, after the contact stick with it, if the punch retract the oponent is force to be on defense b/c i will escort what goes,
DungHo51 3 years ago
and of course attack if there no obstruction. Because of this I see that in the video the way that they spar have little use in Wing Chun training. More like MMA or boxing.
DungHo51 3 years ago
However, there will be many wing chun people disagreeing with me because the way they learned it. Different teachers interpret the system differently and taught it differently. Because each hand in Wing Chun can be interpret differetn ways, different ideas arise from the system. We can see this as a beauty of art and not to agrue over it, just friendly discussion for more exposure to the art. The beauty is that the same hand can be use and differently but still have an effective result
DungHo51 3 years ago
I see different ways people interepret and use tan sau here and it still work. I don't agree with most of them but hey you must respect other martial artist. I come to agree most with the school and the line of Chu Tsung Tin. To me there are two approach to learning the system or maybe three. First is the external way, second is internal way, and maybe the three is mixed, but maybe mix is not a good idea
