I grew up in a home that did not force any sort of belief on me, nor did any school or anyone else around me, for me that is to have been given freedom, to be able to think on my own, and to be rational when making decisions about whether I want to believe something I hear to be true or not. To be able to keep an open mind, to not ignore things that truly matter, and reject truths just because a religion forces me to. I'm happy I was born in Sweden, a nation where reason come before religion.

I grew up in a home that did not force any sort of belief on me, nor did any school or anyone else around me, for me that is to have been given freedom, to be able to think on my own, and to be rational when making decisions about whether I want to believe something I hear to be true or not. To be able to keep an open mind, to not ignore things that truly matter, and reject truths just because a religion forces me to. I'm happy I was born in Sweden, a nation where reason come before religion.

Atheism is, put in a simple way, the absence of theism (belief in god) for one or more deities.
There are agnostic theists and agnostic theists, so saying "i'm not an atheist, i'm agnostic" is imprudent, to be euphemistic.

It is not about disrespecting other peoples points of view. Its about trying to have a discussion with someone. Many religious people (such as Bill) seem to lack the capability of having a rational discussion because they cling so hard to their beliefs that they are unable to keep an open mind. When one does like Richard does. You strike down at the very foundation of a believer and when its foundation is shaking the believer becomes a mere child.

If I told you i believed that dog shit cured cancer, do i deserve the same respect as someone who doesn't? Not every idea, or for that matter any idea deserves perfection. Honestly if anyone pointing out the obvious gaps in your beliefs offends you, that is bc YOUR BELIEFS have problems, not anyone elses.

@corruptgunslinger Hitler was certainly a Roman Catholic Christian who never renounced his faith. Almost all of his Nazi Party followers were Catholic Christians. The Pope sent Hitler a condolence card when he was blown up by that bomb which nearly killed him. The Catholic Church down the centuries is responsible for more deaths than even their fellow Christian Adolf Hitler. Within my lifetime the liturgy for "the perfidious Jew" was dropped from their Christian churches.
