any brand can have a bad design.... my old old toshiba was so good the processor cant run todays application anymore but nothing is wrong with the unit except the dead battery which is normal for an old laptop. my uncles toshiba had a bad casing design craks everywhere.my fist acer was good but my 2nd died in just 2 years..my friends corporate issued dells are good.my sister's dell power supply always dies...so next time ill buy ill just pick whichever looks good to me.regardless of the brand :D
That's what happens when you leave them plugged in. They're transformers, and they need a "load" applied to the transformer. When it's plugged into a 110 voltage source and nothing is drawing current, it will sit there slowly burning up. It's not the fault of the adapter or the cord. If you read the paperwork, it will likely tell you not to leave it plugged in when not in use.
same thing happened to me tonight, it doesn't matter if the cables are messed up on the ground, how scary is this, dell dont care, i have children in bed and this happened upstairs
Hagi told you to go f off eh lol that's fucked Longwriter. Glad you didn't get burned out of house of home though, didn't realize u were doing a few more vids i'll be sure to watch em
Sorry about you dell adapter but i don't think you should switch to Apple because of it. I have always found Apple products to be highly overrated and overpriced. It sounds like your PC is still functional. Don't give up on PCs yet.
Sorry about the delays with Part 2 of my Cataclysm vids---when the power adapter arrived, I spent all my time working on the Love is in the Air achievements---I really really want the Violet Proto-Drake.
I'll start working on the vids again right now. No ETA at the moment.
I know this isn't exactly the same topic, but I know some people who've taken long extension cords & wrapped them up real tight while having them plugged in. It causes so much heat it'll melt the insulation & eventually it might lead to a fire.
@Chellynne That's what I'm doing now: never leave the laptop cord plugged in unattended.
I still think that cord shouldn't have burst into flames, though: I only had a switched-off TV, powered-off PS2 and Wii, and a VCR plugged into that strip besides the Laptop.
having all those wires in that outlet like that is extremely dangerous. What surprises me isn't that the dell caught fire, but why nothing else caught fire as well.
@wowsuperaddicted You might not realize it but Apple doesn't manufacture a single piece of hardware. All Apple does is design it and they outsource the manufacturing and these days they don't even assemble anything anymore.
Besides Apple still is awfully expensive compared to some of their competitors. There are plenty of Laptop manufacturers who do a good job for a decent price.
Good news, all: I tried again today, calling the number that the un-helpful guy from yesterday gave me, and they were much more helpful, this time. A new power adapter is on its way (ETA 2-3 business days), and I didn't have to pay for it, even though my warranty expired. Unless you count the 51 minutes on my cell phone, and considering how few minutes I use per year and how often Verizon makes me buy minutes, anyway, maybe I shouldn't count those 51 minutes.
Honestly, people with -heavy- accents should not be able to work with communications. It is not prejudice in anyway, as that heavy accent makes them less qualified for the job...
My brother has the same laptop and the exact same problem with the case. Dell cases of laptops and PC's are usually fragile and break easily.
I saw a page considering the Recall of AC adapters on the Dell website and although it doesn't mention the Inspirion 1505, the problem mentioned sounds similar to yours.
Also, how much freaking wires do you have in that corner? Not that I'm complaining but in every anti-fire propoganda video I see somethig like that - a million wires plugged in all together in a corner.
Yeah, thats a shame about the adapter, I would not take any second chances with the same on. I'd ask and see if they have a diferent model that would work with your laptop. or mabe and off brand adaptor. and I cant wait to see the cat vid. btw blizzard likes pallies, I've played a pally sence the weekend the first wow came out, then, I really thought the pally was the weekest of all classes, but now, I'm leading in dps in the battle grounds, and arenas battles go quick (druid pally combo)
I'm checking right now to see whether I can get my old tower to the point where I can start up where I left off on the cataclysm part 2 video. Problems: it's slower, and it still sometimes crashes.
If worse comes to worse, I might get another power adapter, but I want to make sure it's not the same kind as the last one: I don't want my house to burn down!

I will never buy a dell. I do not want to sit down on my comfy chair playing call of duty when all of a sudden it catches fire.

yeah, those cords need to be cleaned up. If you have to, have a couple different power stips and only plug in the ones you're using atm.

SlowCheetah89 2 years ago
@SlowCheetah89 At the time, everything else that was plugged into that power strip was switched off, except for one VCR.
And I did have two different power strips. But I've taken one of the two power strips and plugged it into a different outlet.

Great news, all: I've managed to get my tower to the point where I can start working on the WoW vids from there. So the work can proceed.
And I won't be taking any chances with this power supply: I'll ask for a different model.
