  • great video man.

  • now i did this. but i have a few strings still too high or low but the saddle wont move that direction anymore. also the strings i do have tuned right sound very odd.

  • @FixMyHead1 I have the same problem, did you find any solution for this?

  • @dilucia i just moved the height of the bridge

  • 7.31 50 cent

  • how should i tune if i'm a low action player using heavy gauge strings?

  • I noticed that the pickup selection was not in the middle position when you adjusted the intonation . Could you tell me where it should be set and how accurate can you get it ? I have a Boss TU-3 , Epi LP standard and I like using 11 strings . Thank you for the great video . On the G & D strings I always seem to be 2 cent out on the 12th fret . Thxs again .

  • does anyone know what tuner that is?

  • best tutorial I've ever watched! Really helpful.

  • nice vid sir.

  • Thanks !

  • Good work!

  • Thanks man! :)

  • One word...Finaly!!!

But i didnt see anything in there about how to adjust the bridge height...

  • great advice, loads of rubbish videos say play a harmonic, which is WRONG. All my notes were flat when i played at the 12th fret yet the harminic was fine, so after watching this video and making adjustments with a screwdriver all my notes sound perfect everywhere, I cant believe ive been playing for the last 3 years with bad intonation. Thank You!

  • Thanks for the video, finally explained so i can understand

  • thats a beautiful guitar,, thx for the info andrew,, its a big help.

  • i have a question...what the bridge saddle is move up towards the bridge at its max and the note is still abit sharp at the 12 fret what could be the problem?

  • do you suggest doing the same on the 24 fret

  • @Jr72 if it has one then yes

  • This is a great video.

But, for some reason, on the 2 guitars I tried intonating, the G-string *never* moves. The pitch remains sharp, no matter what.

  • Great vid, helped me out! my peice of crap les paul now sounds like a harp cheers!

    w~w~w.seventhstring~com/tuner/tuner.html

here's a descent on-line tuner for anyone who's tuner is out of bat.

    peace.

  • Great vid, helped me out! my peice of crap les paul now sounds like a harp cheers!

  • @lulakirby - you can take the actual saddle piece out and turn it around so the angle is facing the opposite way. This should give you another eighth inch or so. Look up "Intonation tips" from user 300guitars here on the Tube.

  • I have a question. What if you set the adjust the bridge saddle all the way back and the 12th fret note is still sharp?

  • thanks for the awesomely informative video man! you rock!

  • THANK YOU! was very helpful and thank you for clearing up that 12th string harmonic myth.

awesome video! well worth the FAP! heh.

    ok, gonna jam now.

  • ya thank you so much, you speak so clearly and I am so impressed with how my guitar sounds now. Whenever I would record, it felt like no matter how much I tuned some of the solos would sound a bit out of tune, I tend to push down pretty hard when I play and I didn't think there was anyway to compensate for this other than tuning a little flat. I just put new strings on, lubed up the neck, and with the new intonation settings, started shredding it up and it sounds wonderful....thanks playboi!!

  • so simple, like the jitter bug it plumb evaded me! Very good info. I was told wrong and now I know. Thanks

  • i have prs custom 22 and i can only ajust with a tool in two points of the stoptailbridge if you know that guitar it haves only the pickups and the stoptailbridge

    What should i do?

  • @anpipa I have a PRS singlecut and I have the same problem...

  • can you make a version of guitar intonation but for a PRS single cut??? ive been trying to find one but only you seem to know what your doing

  • i've heard it's best to change strings 1 at a time to avoid the huge change in pressure on the neck by removing all strings at the same time...?

  • @jwallis123 it's bullshit. You only danger it when you're letting it lie like that for hours. usually just the bridge is quite annoying and you have to adjust it once you took all the strings off

  • ur awesome man seriously.

  • I don't get it.. when you played the string from the 12th fret your tuner automaticly adjusts.. mine doesn't when I play my string on the 12th fret my tuner is getting to end of the meter basicly.

So do I need to buy another tuner to set my intonation? (I now have a digital Seiko, 15$)

*sorry for my crappy english, but I hope someone can help me out

  • thank you ,,, bit of a closet tech myself ,,,very usefull even w acoustic ,,,,w bridge and the dreaded B string going sharp,,

  • Best tutorial so far, all the others are not concentrated on "what" or "how", more "to do".

This one shows exactly how to do, what happens when you do, and what NOT to do.

  • Great vid thanks

  • top video, this bloke knows what he's doing.

  • THis is great andrew. this video cost money..=D

Thnx for showing for free.. AWESOME !

  • you are my hero thank you!

i can finally fine tune my explorers intonation right!

  • Fantastic video! Thank you so much! I'm gonna try fixing my guitar now!

  • Just to echo everyone's comments; THANK YOU! For such an excellent, and well-explained video about setting guitar intonation on a Gibson Style bridge. I'm going to change my string gauge tonight ^-^

  • Excellent video.. Thanks so much.

  • I tried this and it saved me an 80$ trip to the guitar tech. Thanks creative guitar studio!!

  • I can't for the life of me set my Gibson Les Paul's intonation. The tuner jumps to much and tiny movements on how I'm holding the guitar makes the neck flex differently causing me to get even more off through the process. Ill play two high octaves between two strings at the same time (or right after the other) and it's slightly off. Man this is about impossible. Been working at it for days. I think I have it, then I play for a while and end up messing with it again because it's still not right.

  • Very helpful; I now understand setting intonation.

    Thanks!

    5* +subscribed

  • 1 cuestion ( and sorry my english)

to intonate the guitar must be in horizontal position?

or can i do it in normal position with the belt ( like a usually play guitar) ??

, because i ear the intonation change if u calibrate or intonate the guitar in table...

    its true?

  • @biok2006 think about it.....the only way it makes sense is to set intonation is in the "playing position". That is the position you play it in so why would you set it any other way. Some guitars have very flexible necks and will slightly bend when set flat or the neck proped up

  • great work! nice vid!

    thanks! it was very informative!

  • hey! great video, I'm adjusting intonation on my guitar because my A and D are flat, I've moved the bridge saddle thing as far up as it will go and my A is still flat... although I noticed my bridge saddle faces the other way (I also play an ESP, mine's an EX-400) should I take my guitar in or try it with the saddle turned around?

  • Hey can you make a video on how to lower my pickups? Cause one of mine us too high, and then half of one is to high and the other is perfect, I wanna put covers on them

  • Wow man, I've never really heard of the concept of where to set the intonation (attack or delay). Excellent.

  • Thanks !!!

  • Walmart does have the steel wool, I work there and bought some there and it works fine

  • Thanks so much man, another great video. I really needed a video like this

  • Fantastic video Andrew, very useful! Is there any chance you could do a similar video but with a Floyd Rose equipped guitar?

    Liam

  • always wanted to know that

  • thanks sir for this video. very informative.

  • btw... are all the tools kept in the background used for the guitars? I'm sorry if thats a stupid question...

  • Well, not all of those tools are used for guitars. Most of them aren't exclusively to be used on the guitar, which is why they're a tool.(for multiple uses, of course)

But most of the tools CAN be used on some guitars. And I'm sure some of the tools are just for guitars, but only a few probably.

    Nice vid Andrew, thanks.

  • very good video...

  • Tnx

  • Excellent video Andrew! However you didn't mention that once you have tuned your guitar and the intonation set, about the neck relief and if it has any impact on the intonation once you set your neck relief. I guess what I am trying to say is once the strings are on do you first set your neck and then intonation or does it matter?

  • @northlander30,

He does mention it in the video... "Every set-up concern needs to be dealt with first," (fret dress, truss rod, bridge height, etc.). The final step is setting your intonation.

  • If he did I didn't hear it, no problems though I got a reply from Andrew. Thanks!

  • FINALLY, somebody explaining how to set intonation properly. Most videos on YouTube tell that you do it from the 12th fret harmonic. That is dead wrong.

Thanks for the excellent video here 5*

  • @altcraftstudio so true!

  • Great video!

  • does the floydroses have this thing too. because my saddles or something have moved around.. like the 4 string saddle is mutch closer to the neck than the others

  • cool tips.

did you tune that guitar to regular standard with 11s? what's the scale length of that guitar? just wondering what the tension's like.

i use a 12-56 gauge on one guitar with a 25.5" neck, and tune it to C standard.

  • Great video as usual :) i was wondering if you were going to record any covers at all? or play something you have written

  • thanks! i always like these vids!

you should do something about action, ive heard that sometimes you can have low action that dont fret buzz but kill the notes in some way.

i really want to get into these things!

  • Great video enjoyed it. What about with a movable bridge though?

  • Good video Andrew thanks my friend
