heya! this is a great take on a great song. this track is one of my faves from way-back and i love your take on it. the blues-styling really suits it being that its very guitar-driven. gotta love that you can find stuff like this on youtube, it made my day!
@stux Thanks for the kind words, and glad you enjoyed this tune. It's interesting to me that over time this has been one of the most popular of my covers on youtube, I think it speaks to the quality of the original song and how much people like this tune. Certainly one of my favorites for sure.
@PatrickGMoran Thanks so much for the kind words, I've always been a huge fan of Matthew Sweet, too, and this song is such an awesome fun tune to play, needed to do something to it to make it my own. Thanks for viewing and commenting.
@jonniebock Thats cool. Keep rockin. I guess a I was thinking form this mindset: a friend and I were looking at "underground" bands from Minnepolis from years ago... most would not get signed today though great musicians. Bob Mould, replacements etc...
Dude! Love the song, kept thinking how off my chair, pants crappingly insanely happy I would be if I'd been in the crowd at that time and heard that. Good job, chief.
That sounds like a daunting combination of enthusiasm and messiness. While I encourage the support of my music, I might ask that if you ever do find yourself at one of my shows, that you prepare in advance with some sort of adult diaper-like product.
First heard this online some time ago, maybe when you first put it up. Still can't figure out why everyone present didn't just turn to face you and stand, stunned, with their faces hanging open. You really captured the essence and energy of a great song.
You flatter me, sir. There were some faces hanging open, but mostly for the allowance of beer delivery. Nonetheless, you have thrown down the performance gauntlet for me in future shows! Thanks, my friend.
Real quick - capo on 3, blues shuffle in A position (making it actually in C, could go up a half step if you want to do it in the original key). Other cords are basically G and D in this position.
Great man! Aren't you a familiar of Matthew Sweet? rsrsrsrs it's just PERFECT man! I loved your version. I love guitars. Congratulations for your music version. It's just great.
I like that idea: the talented bald man triumverate. I'd like to think of myself as the "wild card" in that group. Thanks for viewing and commenting man!
To be honest, I was really expecting your comment to be shit, but coincidentally, I also loved it! And I'm also suprised it hasn't gotten more hits. I guess it's true that real genius generally isn't appreciated in it's own time. Oh well. Thanks for commenting!
Thanks a lot! That energy on stage translates into a lot of broken strings while I play (3 during this recorded performance alone), but it means I always have fun.
That sounds awesome. I actually cut my teeth playing around Wisconsin campfire parties, but the Tampa beachside bar scene does sound like it's calling my name...
It seems that pretty much everything I play winds up sounding like a blues tune. This one sorta developed after playing it at campfire parties for years in college... Thanks for viewing and commenting!
jonnie, you do an incredible number on this. Just great guitar, and amazing vocals. great talents my friend. That guitar is a thing of beauty, really punches through the live sounds, you wail too! Thanks
Thanks much, man. I appreciate it. My mom told me that if I kept practicing, I'd eventually be able to play 90's alt rock tunes in a blues style, and you know what? She was right.
Thanks man! It's a Taylor 310kce, koa wood back with fishman pickups. I use a Boss RC-20XL loop player for all of my shows, and it has revolutionized my playing live. Able to do a much better solo acoustic show. Plus it's just fun!
nice gear, bro. i've previously lusted after a boomerang phrase sampler (i'm into trey) and am teetering between going bankrupt over a gretsch or taylor/martin. lol
The only super nice piece of gear that I have is that Taylor, and I love it. I got the 310 series, which was the cheapest they made at the time I bought it, and doesn't have all the fancy gold and mother of pearl - still plays awesome!
Great music and song, dear Jonnie!*****BRAVO!!
