I first heard this song in 1989, in the Denzel Washington film, "The Mighty Quinn". I had to buy the soundtrack. It is as beautifully and sensually haunting today as it was way back then. Love it.
I first heard this on 99.1 WHFS in Baltimore. What was so unique was WHFS was mainly an alternative college radio station back then. They played stuff like The Cure, Depeche Mode, and R.E.M. So when I first heard this song I liked it right away. I didn`t know who The Neville Brothers were so after I bought the cassette I was surprised to learn that the guy(Aaron) who sang "Tell It Like It Is" was a member of the group. If it wasn`t for my love(at the time) for WHFS I wouldn`t have got that LP.
@Smokinglifeaway The whole album if you haven't listen to it is pretty good. The Neville Brothers have done a bunch of song like this on several albums.
I first heard it in 89, on jazz88 WBGO!...Been down with the Nevelle Brothers ever since!!

There ain't no funk like this in today's music. The rhythm in this is tight.
