I am haveing a hard time finding the right sized checkvalve in local pumbing stores, I want to order online, but want to get the right thing, can you tell me what exactly those top parts are, googling brass check valve gives me too many variables for a non-plumber to wade through...
Great vid.You might try a hooking up a venturi to the exhaust & steam output to avoid having too refill the boiler. You can also remove alot of the extra metal from the engine now that it's a steam engine. I've primarily used your video as a source of inspiration for my steam engine, which will use an old steel safe for woodstove, pressure cooker for boiler, weed eater engine, and finally a washer motor/bridge rectifier to generate power for a battery/inverter/laptop! I can't wait to share!
I'm confused. What is the point of building a steam engine from a weed eater engine? Steam principles have been known since Thomas Newcomen and James Watt. There is nothing new here. The blue tubing is obsolete technology and really stints the efficiency generated by the pressure cooker boiler. Put the boiler, condenser, and cylinders into a compact package...then you might have something.
@zeekwolfe You're confused because you're an asshat that doesn't know shit from shineola. Of course steam principles have been known for a long time, it's not about discovery! It's about making something USEFUL out of JUNK that you have already or got for FREE. Have you ever looked at the price of purchasing a steam engine? Have you ever thought that he might want to use it to generate electricity by turning a generator, without having to pay for gas or diesel? Use that rock on your shoulders!
im building something like this but im using a cam lobe to push a push rod that operates an air gun that was used on an air compressed to shoot a burst of air in to the cylinder to push the piston!
Very nice setup. You wondered why or why not a thinner valve would be useful. If the volume between the walls of the pipe and the push rod is too little, it could be the bottleneck for how much steam pressure gets through to the cylinder.
I'm just behind you. I have a large (4'x8') solar water heating panel which I hope to generate steam - filling it half way, and letting it sit in the sun, and tap steam pressure off the top. A check valve will be needed at the bottom, to hold that pressure.
Cool .. I have seen most run on air compressors,..nice to see rthe actual result with steam .. have you ever considderd to use a senseo coffee maker for the instant steam generation...hooked together like a HPinktjet head?...
So was there a specific name for that check valve setup you bought? I've been keeping my eye out for one, but have yet to find them. The valve setup that I planned on using isn't working out as well as I'd hoped, so I'd like to keep your setup in mind as a backup. Anyways, keep up the good work! And I agree with the part about the work bench.. Mine is a mess of pipe fittings and other crap right now : (
Very cool video. You've discovered how to get a Uni-flow bash valve engine to run on low pressure steam. Insulate the cylinder above the exhaust, and the entire check valve and you will get more speed and quicker run up to top rpm. A lot of the power is escaping as convection from the metal.
Lengthen the pipe nipple and rod to get better speed. With the longer inlet port you can open a little sooner before TDC and get more pressure build.
@LynxSteam LOL i havent heard of a bash valve engine untill i looked it up now i am understanding what you was talking about and try some of things in future come Thank you very much for input will keep you up to date Terry
hey terry, got a question. what does the check valve do? i was wondering if you could just run a push rod into the hose coupler and grind off the tip of the male connector so the air or steam only goes through when the push rod hits the ball in there.will this work or is there an importance to the check valve? i'm still gathering up the stuff i need to make this. i tried a nail though this setup at my work and it seems to work with air but didnt hook it up to the motor yet
@coopkabob the check valve holds the pressure until the push rod sitting on top of the piston comes up and hits the ball inside of check valve calling for steam to release...
thanks man for posting this, i had know idea it was so simple to make the push rod setup. very cool, i like it. i'm gonna get the stuff i need if i can find it at the hardware store.i'm sure that shouldnt be too tough to find though. i'm thinking about using a propane torch on a short thick pipe and drip feed water in the pipe to make the steam. if this works i plan to use a fresnel lens outside instead of the torch so i can produce free energy from the sun like greenpowerscience did thanks man
@coopkabob Thank you very much and good luck on the pipe boiler and keep me informed , I hope to get a fresnel lens 1 day then ill be useing the sun also.
Nice engines! How much power produces one of these? Can you stop it by your hand at faster RPMs? Good work and tkx. XD

Is the pushrod hollow & if so did you have to drill holes in the side to let the steam in?
