This is so much better than the studio version... Bruce's high vocals, better guitars, better sound quality... I'd like a studio version with Bruce and all three amazing guitarists (well four if you count Steve as well)!
I think the adding of Bruce's high-pitch voice here adds a lot to the song. Yes it removes the darker side of the original, but it makes it more epic, more flowing. I DEFINATELY want a studio version of this, with good quality sound (though this is pretty good)
I think that with Bruce on the vocals, this song change so much... I mean, the dark mood that this song have dissapear with bruce.... I prefer Blaze version
I think that all the peoples who say "blaze was the reason of crisis of Maiden" are all idiots that have nothing to do. The real reason is the out of Bruce from the band. Blaze are also a singer! And it's voice is good. If Harris made songs from the bruce voice, Blaze don't is guilt.
@MrPepperry I kinda get what you mean, when Blazer was in the band they still wrote songs as if Bruce was around, and then in Brave New World they were writing songs like they had just got used to Blaze being around.
there are 3 types of classic novels: those which are great, those which are terrible and those which where terrible till maiden got their hands on them
This is one of the best Iron Maiden's songs for me, but they played like shit in this video. If Nicko played it like in The X Factor album, it felt much better. My opinion.
@flaviolas Yes, i agree. But in this video, he puts too much drum grooves, Bruce changes too much your sing style... This song was made to play SIMPLE, like the original version. Is the same thing if you get Back in Black and changes the simple 4/4 drum grooves to extended Dream Theater grooves. What is made simple, need to continues simple. The X-Factor rocks!
Bruce is 47 in this video - a lot past his vocal prime. You can see he is straining (which ends up leading to pich inconsistency), and he pulls the mic off in the high notes. Besides, he got the song transposed down so he can sing the high parts octave up, which I really think was unnecessary.
The melody is a killer, the lyrics are strong, I don't see why he chose to go high instead of going powerful...
@maferreira1984 I think Bruce had the best range prior to somewhere in time, in that album he doesn't hit some much high notes anymore, though his vocals are almost the same as before. He had troubles live in the late eighties and 90s, and he changed his singing style(maybe) because of that. Mid-90s he got his voice back a tad lower but I prefer the tone in BNW and his solo albums Accident of Birth and Chemical Wedding. Now his vocals are pretty good too, he had problems in the mid 2000s.
@Goblonaut The pick of his voice is called SEVENTH SON OF A SEVENTH SON.There wont exist another voice like tat one and of course there wont be another album like that.
@Goblonaut please tell us about this " problems of Bruce's voice ", doctor Goblo..... Voices changed. Hear voice of Ozzy in the 70's, 80's and 90's. What say you?
@flaviolas Well I think he screamed and pushed his voice too hard, or his voice just got through a natural change which caused him problems. I think ozzy never controlled his voice really good, so he has had problems live throughtout his career
After I heard this version, I wish that they would play it all the time now. I'd love to hear X-Factor with Bruce. There is just so much passion and strength in his voice when he sings this song. Fucking amazing! I hope they come back to Chicago in 2011 and play this song. Up the Irons!
This is proof that Maiden was still putting out very good material during the Blaze Bayley years. I thought Blaze did a good job on this particular song, but it's obvious that Bruce's vocals were missing during those albums.
Bruce is way better than Blaze, that's not a question. But Blaze is very underrated singer. to replace Bruce must be very thankless task, because people are used to Bruce's vocal, which can't nobody do better, so people hate blaze even he was awared of that he's worse than bruce and he tried to done his maximum. thanks Blaze for everythink and thanks god, Bruce's back!!
WTF!!!...Bruce might be a better singer for some songs....but BLAZE is GOD!!!...just listen to how he sings this one, forget about the volume in the MIC, he tunes it better than Bruce...LOTS!!!...
I love this version. But is it just me or Bruce isn't too excited singing it? He's just standing there and so, he usually goes running and jumping all around. Well his performance as singer is excellent and that's what matters anyway.
Both versions r great...I just love how bruce sings blazes stuff....Sign of the cross is one of the best jobs bruce made on a blaze song...UP THE IRONS!!!
i love both versions of this song, i love all the xfactor and virtual xi stuff but i think bruce kicks blaze's arse on this song, the high notes just show how supreme bruce is......up the irons from portsmouth!!
I like a lot B.Bayley but his voice wasn't for Maiden. I remember a few months ago in an interview, Dickinson said that he loves the X Factor cause' it is so dark...me too!! I fuckin' love the X Factor and also (i know not much people like it) i love the virtual xi production! that's because i grew up with th x factor and virtual x, when i meet maiden blaze was the front man!
Bruce sings with awesome skills even when the material is not from his 'Iron Maiden era'. I love when he does X Factor and Virtual XI stuff. It suits so good!
@emillan36 Actually, Blaze has a lower voice than Bruce. On the record (X Factor) the song was in F# to fit Blaze's voice. When Bruce sings it, they drop it down a full tone (to E) and Bruce sings an octave up.
@Zevangelion23 actually steve harris and janick wrote the song.
I think they should re-record X factor and Virtual XI with Bruce. There are many songs wasted like this one,Sign of the Cross,The Clansman,Man on the Edge,Futureal Como Estais Amigos etc...Bruce really brings energy and passion to the songs he sings and high notes of course no offense blaze fans.
@BikFlofer Bruce is clearly better as a far as technicality and power goes, but Blaze has that raspy crunch in his voice that is really cool sounding. If Blaze had more power and range, he would probably one of the greatest singers of all time.
@dreamofmirrors777 I do think Blaze is one of the best singers of all time! lol
If you check out his solo stuff like Silicon Messiah or The Man Who Would Not Die, you'll see how much better his voice has become. I'm just saying I still like Bruce better ;)
in my opinion X-factor was a good album if u could listen to it like it was from a new band, like Load and ReLoad albums from Metallica.i dont want to ask myself wich singer is better after this, maybe its obvious but still X-factor was good.
OK , I would not even listen to this song before Bruce sang it , cause I know what I like . So all of you Blaze buddies stop telling me what to listen to please !
ok guys dont comapre bruce and blaze they arent the same singers.....bruce has a melodic voice buyt blaze has a deep and strong voice but the songs that blaze sang blaze can sing better....but i still love MAIDEN!!!!:P:P:P:P:P:P
Look at that, a diehard Blaze fan. I like Blaze singing Virtual XI and The X Factor songs better thn Bruce. Bruce is more suited to his stuff with Maiden
I like chorus better with Bruce and the rest better with Blaze.
