There are a few things that they added into the 4.5 OS that were not available on the 4.2. First off, you could not do video recordings on the 4.2 but you could play them. Now you can do recordings both audio and vid. Secondly, the theme style "L" has been added, along with a listing of changes in the Calendar and address book. The OS might be a little sluggish to start out with, but it gets rolling once it gets used to what you access the most. Or at least that's what mine did.
