  • I love the binder clip!

  • Its good to hear a version of something other than someone trying to copy eric clapton's version (not that there is anything wrong with his). gotta love the blues being sung the way that it's meant to be sung.

  • I think this the best version I've heard............After Bessie Smith

  • you look like a fun guy to share with

    greetings from Chile Latinoamerica

  • Just plain old "feels oh so good music"! Thank, Madcat.

  • I saw an introductory to harmonica video of yours and it looked as if it was from the 80's and I assumed you were possibly dead. I just got the video today and I found you on youtube under "harmonica" thinking you possibly wouldn't have a youtube account and YOU DO! But was was most amazing was how great you sound vocally. I think that sets this cover over the edge. You're amazing sir!

  • lovely geezer cushty

  • jeff bridges could be a great choice to be the main actor in a petermadcatruth biography movie jaajja just playing man, you are great!!

    cheers!!

  • I don't care what key you play... One of my favorite songs, and now I have a new favorite rendition of it... Any chance of a Sky King reunion?

  • A Sky King reunion would be big fun, but the only member of Sky King I see on a regular basis is Chris Brubeck.

  • Yo WestWindGod

The main reason I used a D harmonica on this tune is I like the way it sounds. Also, I try to avoid over-blows, because I don't play them well. And I primarily use standard tuned harps rather than special tuned harps. So on this tune the melody could be played in 12th position without over-blows.

  • chords?

  • I like it!

  • best cover of this song on you tube

  • Fantastic madcat !....are you playing this on a G harp?

  • No. The song is in the key of G, but I'm using a D harmonica, played in 12th position.

  • cool mic and harp holder :) i will make for me to same :)

  • @madsaddeussen but then he wouldn't be down and out

  • I do like Madcat. He does a wonderful job with this old classic.

  • Beautifully done!

  • Magic!!!

  • I thought that was some kind of fancy harmonica holder. well knock me out!!!!! its just a papper clip holder you can buy at Staples for $3 bucks well u might have to work some overtime times are tough now

  • Am very glad

    to have found your channel

    it's great fun

    thank you!

  • Gotta love the Midwest.

    Go Chicago Bears!

  • You are the best !!!!!!! That just was the best on the web. Good tempo and so much soul.. very very cool .

    Cheer's Fender

  • Just outstanding . That`s the stuff

  • great job, respect

  • You just kicked my ass, but in a good way. Thanks!

  • awsome talent. i have a madcat mic and the ergonomics and sound is priceless. but the one issue i have is in live loud setting gettting it loud enough. should i be using a preamp with it. not sure on what a good setup is but it is a great mic with no feedback ever which is the main problem with my green shure mic. hope to get some insight on setup from the man himself thanks

  • Most of the time I play with the Shaker/Madcat harp mic turned all the way up. Yes, It has a lower output than most harp mics. It just means you have to set the controls on the amp a little hotter. I do not not use a pre-amp. I just use the volume control on the amp. Enjoy - Madcat

  • thanks for the info. i still like the madcat the most. easy to adjust volume and works well with my style. i hold the harp in my right hand so the volume control is on top and is easy to turn while playing. versus the bullet knob is on the bottom tougher to get at without moving my hands. thanks for the response and happy jammn

  • какой молодец :)

  • Only Madcat can blow the harp like that!

  • Master Madcat .

  • is this guy famous? this guy is amazing

  • @acdc11491

    yes and yes

  • Really enjoying Madcat down here in New Zealand. Heaps of motivation to learn that harp.

  • wonderful! Good Job! Ill check out your other videos.

  • Did you drill a hole through the paper clip to attach it to the stand?

Is the harp mic'd through the clip or just the main mic in front of you?

    Thanks!

  • Yes, I cut a hole through the back of the binder clip. (It was difficult but I didi it.) The microphone is inside the binder clip, right behind the harmonica. The microphone cord is inside the mike stand.

  • You are a Madcat Genius! BTW, I used to see you at Christopher's (?) in Kalamazoo, looong time ago. You inspired me to play harp which I do now in two bands. Thanks! Also, I plan to catch Triple Play in Norfolk, CT soon.

  • @petermadcatruth Crafty!

  • I cut a hole through the binder clip, and the microphone is mounted in the hole.

  • thats just really really good ... :)

  • Now that's what i call good music!

    Greetings from Brazil!

You're absolutely great, keep up the good work!

  • Dude, you rule.

    Dave

  • you are most charming singing, playing the mouthorgan- I love your lifemood

  • Hey man, I'll clear a space for ya in my hobo camp any day. That was beautiful.

  • best harmonica stand ever!

  • Plays guitar as well as he blows harp

    A remarkable talent.

  • That huge paper clip makes a killer harp holder...Thanks for the awesome playing and the ideas you give me. You are my favorite "prop-master" harper; Always extremely entertaining and colorful. Ronnie Shellist mentioned your name at a harp workshop I attended recently and I raved about how much I loved your wacky gadget noise song called Harmonica Crazy. I recommend everyone watch that to get introduced to you.

  • Hey Madcat.

    HarpMan Freeman here...

This is such a great tune and the way you put it all together is just wonderful. The Herring Madcat Harmonica sounds great. I can't wait until they hit the market.

Your videos are great! Thanks for taking the time to make them.

    Shawn

  • This is awesome Mad Cat, took me a while to track down and find a version i really liked after hearing a bloke play it on the metro in Paris, so glad i did!

  • Madcat, this is my favorite of your videos. It was cool to see you perform this live at the VA Harmonicafest. Take care!

    Todd

  • Yo Todd- I'm glad you like this song. It has great changes.

Great to meet you at the VA HarmonicaFest.

    Madcat

  • Nice job brother. Ever heard this song done by Dave Von Ronk ? He was the best!

  • Yes indeed- The first version I ever heard was on a Dave Van Ronk recording which I first heard around 1964

  • I have heard this song many times. But this is the best version ever.

  • That "paperclip" is actually called a binder clip and you can get them at any office supply store

  • thanks a lot.

    it's really great.

    Steph.

  • Love it!!!

  • Good idea attaching the harp to the mike rather than using a rack. I thought it was some specialized piece of gear until I noticed in the close-up it's basically a big paper clip!

  • Awesome! Good to see you on YouTube. Take Care!

  • I can't wait to say in a couple of weeks.....Happy Wheatland!!!

    bf

  • hello Madcat, it's always great watching you...bye,Andre.
