Why do some planets rotate evenly around the sun, but other things such as Pluto and Halley have an unusual orbit?

@SuzLa1 As far as I know scientists do not know what causes these variations. It could have something to do with the mass and size of the celestial body or to do with the shape of the Sun's gravitational pull.

So i researched in to halleys comet, and according to wiki and other sources. Yes it did orbit in 1986. So that's your point proved, but still leaves me confused.

I remember seeing a comet in the sky! It was there for weeks. So the reason i am still pursuing this is.. What did i see?

I even just phoned my mother to ask if she remember seeing a comet back then. And even she said she though it was halleys comet.

So please take in to account that i saw a comet. So what one was it?

@ShyDream3r A Power Rangers movie came out in 1997 and Hale-Bopp also came out in that year. Sadly I missed that because I was long term ill at the time. I did see Halley in 1986 tho. It was a disappointing tiny white streak in the sky when I viewed it in the southern hemisphere.

Well if you can accomplish the feat of being able to live another 334 years you will be able to see it when it comes near earth again. :) It travels about 9 billion miles away from us then returns in the year 2343. Its cycle or orbital period is 341 years.

well Halley is a small object compared to the sun so it has little chance of being released by the sun's powerful gravity. I suppose it is possible it could hit a planet one day but this is very unlikely as its kind of like one bee colliding into another bee both flying inside a giant air balloon or something.

tnp it has to do with the sun's gravitational pull on all objects in space. It is no different to why planets orbit around the sun. Halley is "tied" to the sun by the force of gravity that the sun exerts.

Hi ericlee321, because I had to zoom out from a very far distance to capture the entire orbital path of Halley's comet as well as Ikeya Zhang, the orbits of Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars are too small to display unfortunately. They are all contained inside the orbit of Jupiter if you could see them. I will make some more videos with all the planets in the next few weeks. Thanks for your question.
