  • Looks great!

  • I absolutely love your hair!

  • Beautiful!!

  • I think you actually look prettier with it curly..usually some girls look better with it straight

  • Im not one of those girls that think girl can't grow their hair but I just wanted to ask.... Are you middle eastern or Indian (not native american)? Your features remind me of the nationality.... But either way your beautiful and your hair is sooo gorgeous!!!

  • I've been following you since you big chopped, and your hair growth is amazing. Your hair is beautiful.

  • I use avacado butter as a leave in bc my hair reacts horribly to silicones now. Avacado oil has a smoke point b/w 490 and 510F so it's good. I don't use that type of heat, but I've been using it for a few months now w/ no heat damage. I only straighten my hair 3 or 4 times a year during the winter, so keeping my curlies their curliest is ideal. Try it out! :]

  • Do you have a trimming schedule/regimen?

  • Oh ok well thanks a whole lot for the info! I'm looking forward to more videos :)

  • @mahoganycurls so when you started to get relaxers then your hair got shorter?

  • @boobiedeb nope, it was a nice length, but it never reached the length was pre relaxer and the length it is now (I hope that makes sense..lol). My aunt is a beautician and she took really good care of it...I will discuss this in my hair story video (coming soon). When I started high school I cut it into an angled bob and wore that for a while...my hair was still healthy, it was just in a short haircut...then in late '08 I decided to go natural :). I feel that my hair grows faster now.

  • Your hair is very Beautiful!!! Has your hair ever been that long before you went natural??

  • @boobiedeb thank you! When I was a little girl it was pretty long.

  • I like your rollersets much better. I think the volume is more flattering on you. Can't wait for your next rollerset video.

  • @MisMupp -me too! Thank you!

  • it is amazing at how much your hair has grown in 3 years!

  • Beautiful hair and hairstyle!

  • Wow, your hair is so thick and long. Very pretty!

  • Your hair looks to be one length all around ...

  • @GoldenBlonde69 -Hey! It is actually longer in the back...but it is a nice length all around. Thanks and miss you!

  • Very Nice!

  • do you mind sharing what you wearing on your lips? the color is pretty!

do you wear foundation at all?

can we get a skin routine in the future?... you are flawless

  • @b3autiphulmokha Hi, I is called star nova by MAC it is a lipglass. I do not wear foundation, just a little powder when I am going out (ya know, a nice night out..lol) In this video, my skin is "bare" Yes, I can give you a skin care routine...Thank you! I love your avatar too!

  • @MahoganyCurls awww, Thanks girl!! I'll be staying tuned.

  • @MahoganyCurls does it cake?

  • @b3autiphulmokha aw, Thanks girl!! I will be anxiously awaiting!

  • Wow, look at the growth - it's beautiful. I'm too scared to flat iron my hair. BBD

  • Looks amazing....but girl that blow out picture was Giving me hair envy :)

  • Looks great!

  • Your hair looks very luscious and healthy. Nice work! But you did say (at 1.54) that you didn't do it on dry hair, so I also assumed you did it on wet hair until you talked about blow drying.

  • @iverenabwa -okay, thank you so much! I will be more clear next time :)

  • you got that fresh out of the salon look! no matter what i use/do, i can never accomplish the salon look with a flat iron or rollerset. jealous!

  • @imamultimillionaire I think she said she left the tresseme naturals on her wet hair.

  • There's a stylist here in NYC that does a rollerset/flatiron. I'd love to see it on your hair if you decide to try (You have more skillz than I do LOL)

  • Very pretty, but I like it better curly... ;) Your curls distinguish you, but your straight hair looks good too.

  • it looks like fake hair! haha lol cuz its sooo shiny !

  • Can we see a tutorial on how you accomplish this style? I heard you say you did this on "wet" hair... So you flat ironed wet hair? Please explain.

  • @Imamultimillionaire -hi, i didnt do this on wet hair...i did it on dry hair...It may be a while before I do a tutorial because I do not use heat often..(like 1+ years). I do not recall saying I did this on wet hair... :)

  • Beautiful! Love it curly and straight.

  • it looks absolutely beautiful! As usual!!

  • great video lady! try plaiting your hair in four sections and letting it dry over night as an alternative to blow drying... i do that and it helps cut down on heat usage :) beautiful hair! keep the videos coming!

  • @rosered1585 -thank you, I did that the last time I flat ironed and it worked perfectly, will definitely do that again!

  • Your hair has grown so beautifully! So happy for you god bless you!

  • your hair looks lovely!! and i love how jet black it is! aahhh fantastic length retention, i will be 3 years 1st April, don't think i will be this length though!! :) xx

  • 5 hours? it looks good but..it shouldnt take that long lol

  • @xPrettyThings87 -that is from start to finish...5 hours. It took about 2.5 to flat iron. ;)

  • @MahoganyCurls oh im sorry! but it looks so goooood

  • @xPrettyThings87 -it's cool sweetie! Thank you!

  • Pretty Pretty Pretty! worth 5hrs LOL!! :)

  • Love ur hair! I agree with da previous comment. Ur blowout looks great!

  • Looks really nice and healthy to me. Nothing wrong with a change up in style now and then. But I gotta admit..love loveeeeeeeeee your curls so much more!

  • Pretty

  • Your hair looks so good; it's healthy and long! Good job!

  • Beautiful...I really enjoy your vids :-) your hair looks very healthy so kudos to you! I do think your curls are gorgeous also!! Take care

  • Your blowdried hair was FIRE!!!! You should rock a blowout some time.

  • beautiful, beautiful hair!!!

  • You did a good job gurl!! Turned out sooooo nice

  • Your hair has grown a lot it is really beautiful

  • Jerseygirl: By the way we around the same time and my hair is passed my bra strap/Mid Back now. We look good girl! I get asked so much.... how did I get my hair to grow or they see if it's a weave...... I just run my finger thru it to stop the look oners....LOL

Sept/2009B/C will be 3 years and I saved it all off myself.

  • Your hair looks very good and healthy! It's been 1 1/2 yrs since the BC and I have never straightened my hair. I would like to do this to check length and trim. But, with the blow drying and flat ironing, I'm afraid my hair will not go back to his curly state. What do you do to get it back "natural"? Is it hard to do?

  • @kwll35 I understand your concerns. No, it isn't hard. I usually apply conditioner to dry hair and allow it to absorb the moisture...my hair began to revert pretty quickly. Then I wet it with water, and it the curls start to form! :)

  • @kwll35 it atkes a lot, and constant use of heat, to make hair not revert back for most ppl... if you dont use a lot of heat on your hair than it should revert back to curly state almost as soon as water hits it (which is why many complain tha they cant straighten because of moisture reverting their hair quickly). you should be fine tho... good luck and God bless!

  • Jerseygirl: By the way we around the same time and my hair is passed my bra strap/Mid Back now. We look good girl! I get asked so much.... how did I get my hair to grow or they see if it's a weave...... I just run my finger thru it to stop the look oners....LOL

  • Jerseygirl: I use only natural products and from my kitchen and Wholes Foods. I let it air dry over night then flat iron with my Maxiglide at 250 degrees 2x pass over and Caruso Steam Hot Roller next day. It last for a week than I pin curl it. I use your leave-in and aragan oil/Red Henna 2x a month. I use a avacado, evoo, egg and honey mask and leave in over night weekly. I have been wearing my hair straight for a month and a weekly wash/DC. Too cold to wash & go or curly style. Wish me luck!

  • I love your videos and I am so inspired by your hair growth. How many inches would you say you retain every year. I only retain about 4 inches a year so its kinda discouraged, and its not because of damage because i don't do anything to my hair seriously, I just wash it, do 2-strand twists, and put it in a bun for 2 weeks and wash again. so this year im trying new techniques to reach 6 inches.

  • @NewlyNappy -thank you! I am not sure how many inches I have right now. I never measured it. Dont be discouraged, patience, patience, patience...good luck!

  • SHOUTING..LOVE YOUR HAIR!!!

  • your hair looks great!! i've been natural for about 2 years now without doing the big chop and i can never get my rollersets to come out how i want it. do you have any tips

  • @MsGirlygurl101 -hi! rollersetting is tricky. I can explain it best when I decide to upload a new roller setting video. I will say this, your must use a little tension while setting the hair and not too much hair for each roller. It also must be completely dry and your hair must be pretty smooth. I will explain this in the roller setting video. :)

  • Your hair is beautiful!

  • beautiful! beautiful, beautiful!

  • Wait....HTF did your hair surpass mines that fast?!?! Girl I remember when u big chopped!! Wow wow wow beautiful! Go head girl ;-)

  • Your hair looks sooo good, both straight and curly! I was wondering if you'd do a straight hair maintenance/night time routine video to show us how you get those curls in your straight hair and preserve the straightness at night.

  • @ksnewsome09 thank you! Sure!

  • your hair is perfect.... I jumped on the CCG wagon a few weeks ago....I hope by the time I get to where you are, my hair looks that good.

  • Beautiful. 8-)

  • Looks "BEAUTIFUL" Jess!

  • Your growth has come such a long way! That's my goal length right thurrr, lol!

  • Your hair looks amazing. Even just blow dryed.

  • Your hair look great......good job!!

  • your hair looks great. but it looked good at ASU. will you color your hair one day soon?

  • @dwanfierce Thank you! I dyed my hair in 2010, but redyed it back to my natural color in 2011 bc I didn't like the dark roots...so, coloring isn't an option anytime soon...lol! :)

  • its so cute blown out, that would be a cute braid out just sayin lol

  • @sincerelyemani lol :D thank you!

  • quick question....u said u use silicones for when u straighten....but to get the cones out when u want to go back to curly, do u use a sulfate shampoo or do u still use devacurl cleansing conditioner?

  • @jetblkcurls -yes, I said in the video that I will have to use a sulfate shampoo to remove the silicones from my hair...basically, giving my hair a fresh start, so I can continue the CG method when I wear my curls...HTH! :) the sulfates will remove the silicones that are in the heat protectant from my hair.

  • Looking good girl!!

  • Your hair is beautiful!

  • Very pretty...I like your curly hair too!!!...looking forward to your FAQ vid!

  • LOVE IT!

  • @MahoganyCurls What's the curly girl method? And would flat ironing every two to three weeks be bad, because I'm natural and have never had chemicals in my hair, but I don't wear natural hairstyles, I wear it straight, is that bad if I want to start wearing it natural in college and don't want to cut? Help !

  • @Dese356 -hey! The CG method is when you avoid silicones and sufates while wearing your hair curly. I describe this method on my facebook page (mahoganycurls). Flat ironing every two to three weeks could weaken your curl, resulting in heat damage. I wouldnt recommend it if you want to wear "natural" or "curly" styles. It is not bad that you want to wear it natural in college, that is wonderful! If you are already 100% natural, you do not have to cut it. :)

  • @Dese356 (continued) I recommend reading curly girl by Lorraine Massey. It is about the CG method and caring for your curls! Let me know if this helps!

  • wow...i need to do something different..my hair is your length but I am going on 4 years natural..but i have had to cut my hair sooooo much fro not taking care of my ends...when i first straightened, I could see all the split ends and knots..do you get knots? if so, do you care enough to cut them off or do you dismiss them? thanks...

  • @mrsjlong - I had some knots, but I ended up trimming them..I like to trim my ends lightly when I wear my hair straight...i hope this makes sense. (I trim every 6 months)

  • Love love love your hair! Have you talked about shedding hair in any of your videos? Your hair looks so healthy; I would love to see how much healthy hair shed! That would help me know if the amount of shedding I am experiencing is good or not.

  • @luvbeingmom05 -thank you! Not yet. I will definitely do that for you one day!

  • I understand where you're coming from with missing your curls and having heat damage. I get the same way.

  • I love your hair! I can't wait to see that length! You go girl!

  • you hair is georgous, yeah I'm like you I miss my curls. I'm wearing a 5 days twist out.

  • freakin gorgeous!!!!!!!! i gots to go CG!!!!!

  • Ahh your hair is gorgeous!

  • I've been following your videos, your hair is growing so nicely!

  • And is there really a difference between a heat protectant and a leave in conditioner? won't the conditioner protect your hair already? do we really need the heat protectant?

  • @irisnaturelle -um, I am not an expert, but I recommend both. I actually left "regular" conditioner in my hair and used a heat protectant. I think the conditioner is a great moisturizer for your hair and the heat protectant coats the strands, and protect it from the heat.

  • omg! its soo beautiful and thick! it looks like a wig..you have GREAT HAIR!!

  • what is your twitter ?

  • Thanks for the update vid about your straightening process. I have learned so much from you in my 30 months of being relaxer free!! I tried the CG method early on in my journey. As my hair has now reached 3-4 inches to bra strap length in the back I am revisiting a version of the CG method with a co-wash from As I Am...I still rock my twists and braids....but am trying to experiment with modified methods to assist in my styling freedom and continue to keep my natural tresses healthy and growing!

  • love your hair!have you ever measured your hair?

  • @njebabe -thank you! I never have...

  • Hey girl, your hair looks pretty; and are u prego? Your face looks a little fuller, in a cute way =)

  • @Nessadoo - hey! No, I am not...lol!

  • Thank you jess! Thank you for all that you do, you inspire more than I think you realize. Luv you bunches!

    Xoxo

  • @329sweet you are so welcome! luv you too!

  • And I hear u about when its straight u want to go right back to ur curly hair,I have not touched heat since last March and I'm so scared to flat iron again but I will soon I geuss lol

  • @9086863951 lol! I was nervous too! I want to slap some conditioner on it soooooooooooooo badly! I MISS MY CURLS...the straight hair is nice, but I LOVE the curls! (the hubs like the straight hair....and my curls, but like this look a lot too...so i will keep it about a week) ;)

  • @hondezbrown Hi, they were okay. Not very smooth. I did trim a little... Hth!

  • Wow amazing result girlie, can not get over how much ur hair has grown keep doing what ur doing great results

  • @mrsakitchen None..just wash n go.... :)

  • Thank you for the new vid! I'm doing the cg right now and I went to get my brows done today and the lady that does them told me my hair was cute but she thought I need to shape my hair! she thinks I should have a style, right now my hair looks like yours did in your 3 day hair vid. What do you think I should do? I cut of my relaxed ends and was trimmed at that time. I don't like the comment that she made to me, it made me feel like she was saying my hair looked crazy. :(

  • @329sweet -girl no! Your hair is beautiful, sometimes people say mean things or do not think before they speak. Don't listen to her. I am sure your hair is super cute! People used to say silly things to me to...all naturals will encounter someone that will say off the wall stuff. Ignore, hold your head high and move on...xoxoxoxoxo!

  • VERY PRETTY!!!

  • First mini twists, now straight hair... There's so many options these days and they both look great. I've found that I have more than my fair share of knots- did you find after using the blow dryer that your ends (with the knots) felt smooth before flat ironing?

  • Gurl...your hair is looking FLYYYYY!!!!

  • @zaharaluv Aww, sorry. I will fix that in the future. Unfortunately, I can't adjust the volume after it is posted...sorry.

  • Hey, just a subbie suggestion. The music is a little loud on the video, it's drowning you out QUITE a bit . Love ur hair though!

  • @prettysunshyne Hey girl!

  • Hi! That is from start to finish. It took about 2.5 hours to flat iron. I do not think you did anything wrong. I just used small sections and low heat. Btw, I am pretty slow with flat ironing bc I do not do it often. :)

  • Beautiful! Quick question. Why did it take five hours? I'm just curious as to your process. I'm MBL and it takes me about an hour and I've learned that when it takes me a shorter time to do something, I'm usually doing it wrong!

  • ~~"NEVER SAY NEVER"~~,for so many reason lol~~ I've always love your hair and I must say the flat iron looks GREAT! on you, however the curls on you are FABULOUS! ~~ they bring out your personality and strength, the flat iron keeps you in the back sorda speak~~( curls show you go for what you know )... ( flat iron show you know it but moves when told to )

  • Hey Twin :))))) *waves*

  • It looks great :D can you do a length check when you hit 3 years natural?

  • The blow out looks better than the flat iron. So cute on you!

  • Wow, just wow! It looks great! Thank you so much for sharing. I'm coming up on one year next month & I was going to straighten but decided against it. Maybe at two years. But your tresses are definitely beautiful & healthy! (We appreciate you for helping us through our own journeys). :)

  • Your hair looks great!

  • did you blowdry with the the tension method or using a comb attachment/brush? Love how dark your hair is and can't wait for an updated rollerset tutorial.

  • @FhrizzBall I used the tension method.. :)

  • Looking Good MC!!! Looking good!!!

  • @KinkyNappyHappy thank you!

  • @MahoganyCurls What protective styles do you use?

  • Whoa i would've mistaken it for weave if you didn't say it was flat-ironed LOOOL It sooo long and it looks cute :)

  • @Naturalissa -ha! thanks!

  • Wow!! Your hair looks gr8!!! I thought you had a weave at first, lol!

  • @Mzblakflower -thank you! lol!
