people are being way to hard on these guys. no its not the most mind blowing DJ set in the world but it was not bad by any means. i think the problem is that turntablist style DJ sets are for a selective audience. the people who dig this kind of music are generally other DJS and hip hop artists and hardcore hip hop fans. i do not know what year this was done but by 1990s standards and even contemporary standards for today it was a good set and i enjoyed it.
What a lame performance, they really should've got somebody with some turntable skills cuz these 2 just don't CUT at all. I'm actually surprised they didn't use the standard "commercial" dj setup known as the RANE TTM57 and used real analog mixers. But like I said that was a fluke. They could've used a whole miami theme but nope. LOL
This video truly demonstrated the skill level gap between these two DJs. The guest DJ has a higher skill level that Irie. Listening, I could hear that Irie had trouble getting his beat juggle and scratches on point, while the guest DJ had no issue. Irie is clearly mediocre compared to his guest. He has more flare and does a great job hyping over the performance. But his guest clearly outshone him.
@ForgottenFaces001 Let's pretend for a minute that technology never advanced and all that was available today was turntables and vinyl. My comment on Irie would still stand. You could call him a "real" DJ all you want. Technique is technique. And you either have it or not. It seems anybody rocking on the wheels of steel "real" and thus has to be "great". Wrong! As witnessed in this video we can "hear", not "see", but "hear" the errors in Irie's set.

@djmariointhemix if you watch the old wild style videos and see the DJs back in 1981-1982 i can hear the mistakes and i still like the mixes, even grand wizard theodore made some mistakes but of course that was the early 1980s and i have to put things into context so i judge things in a different manner based on what they are and when i hear them. judging this video i would say that yes the guest was more skilled than the main act but i did not find it to be horrible at all
@nvsstyles I feel what you're saying being a dj myself, but lets be real, performance or not it should still sound good. At every DMC event I've been to, the goal is to still have a clean and smooth sound. But Irie is still the man in South Fl. I don't think James is going to help you guys get a RING, LAKERS ALL THE WAY...AGAIN.
