Dude Maybe check out some new drum heads and get someone to help you if you not sure, look at some EVENS EQ2 Built in E RING I use them and they sound nice and controlled now need for much if any dampening or treatment. Also look at the miss your using see if you can try some SENNHEISER e604 clip on mics.

I didn't dislike it anywhere near as much as everyone has, apparently. I actually thought it was okay.

But, Thomas is a freak, he's so incredibly tight and at these mid-upper tempo's it's hard to be as tight as he is. So grats for the effort man.

Mic placements change on the majority of kits and he shape of the room. Its best to have a dead space by covering up all of the reflective surfaces to get a tight metal sound.I would recomed spending an hour working on mic placements and testing different methods. It does help to make sure everything is in tune but on the whole its mainly the placement.

Just an hour? I've spent FAR more time than that tweaking every single aspect of how the sound is recorded, lol...it's given me a new appreciation for what goes into recording drums on a professional album!

This video was done quite a while ago, and I've come a long way on the drum sound since then...check out my Evanescence cover if you're interested in hearing the "progression" of what I've learned (as far as EQ and all that other stuff goes).

Haha, none taken. Check out what I said in response to 1mindlessmusic1's comment down below. It's actually the placement of the mics - the toms are still tuned roughly the same, but if you check out "Drum Mic Test #2," they sound a lot better because I know more now about mic placement, EQ, etc. than I did when i was experimenting at the time of this video.

You hit the nail on the head - I'm still learning where to place mics to make the drums sound good, and in this particular setup you can see I had the mics like RIGHT on the heads. Word of advice - don't do that, lol...it makes them sound like they have no tone at all! Fortunately, that's been fixed now, like in the last two videos I've put up. Didn't change the tuning of the toms at all, and it really goes to show how much of a difference mic placement makes.

Haha you're not the first to say that, and I definitely admit I love a big selection! Plus, the Wuhan chinas are cheap and sound awesome, so I experimented with all different kinds and started cracking some to get different sounds, etc.
