  • Paul Morley, made a career commenting on Factory. Tried to be part of it with The Negatives in the late 70's but failed. Biggest "hanger-on" ever. Gretton was right....full of shit. Listening to Gretton, the bloke who played him in 24 hr Party People did an amazing job

  • Rob Gretton, legend. absolute nutter

  • after much consideration i think morley and wilson really grasp the finer points of joy division/ian curtis, and gretton and erasmus are pretty basic (and very lucky) people

  • I love JD, but Atmosphere was not the end of pop.

  • Paul Morley: CUNT.

  • I didn't realize until I watched this how good Paddy Considine's performance was in 24 hour party people he had the voice mannerism and look down. It really is amazing.

  • MORLEY. WHAT A DICK.

  • IT'S NOT "POP" MORLEY, YOU TOSSPIECE!!

  • Morley is a bell end!

  • Where's Part 1 man ?

  • ah, fuck off with all of this nonsense. bloody shit kickers. the music is the music and it's great.

  • Jesus-I never realised that Paddy Considine actually looked so much like Rob Gretton-I mean that is spooky

  • yeah, its nuts, isnt it

  • Comment removed

  • cant believe this, there was an outcry because they were selling an album that they funded and helped make to help them with financial problems. what about the persistant peddling of john lennon and elvis mementos, fuck paul morley hes a dickhead.

  • tony wilson. wide-o, visionary.

  • Yeah I've always felt Paul Morley was a cunt too. Mabye the Miranda Sawyer of the 80's, a bit those who can do, those who can't,teach?

  • Factory was never supposed to be just another label, Martin Hannett not just badly produced Joy Division, he was also full of shit.

  • Paddy Condistine was dead-on as rob gretton

  • Considine didnt play Gretton it was Toby Kebball.

  • in the film Control, Gretton was played by Kebbell, in the film 24 hour party people, Gretton was played by Considine

  • Well said.

  • both of them did an AMAZING job

  • I really fucking dislike Paul Morley, Gretton was spot on.

  • Paul Morley was seriously full of shit in those days. Given what we all know now about how Factory was (mis)managed, his portrayal of the company as shrewd and businesslike is laughable.

  • Anyone know whay year this is from ... 1987?

  • LOOK UP and to the right at citizens 2 comments and u will see 1988

  • lol that song was far from the end of pop.

  • The end of quality pop, perhaps.

  • 'I've always thought Paul Morley was full of shit anyway'....lol spot on Rob you are so right

  • Paul Morley is so full of pretentious wank it's not true. Give me a Gretton any day of the week.....

  • Man I would have killed to go to the Hacienda - they need to rebuild. And Paddy Considine totally owned the persona of Rob Gretton in 24 Hour Party People!

  • Agreed! I'd never seen the real Rob Gretton before watching this today and I had to watch it twice to believe just how uncanny Paddy C's portrayal of his was.

  • The whole attitude towards this documentary by the interviewers is summed up in the response "what video?"

  • And Ian Curtis alone would be what? Pompous as they may be, they were the music behind the vocal and the lyrics. Without Sumner, Hook and Morris, there would be no Joy Division. Don't think that any other musicians would have given the same result. The success of New Order is proof that they do have talent whether you like their style of music or not. Read Ian Curtis' couple of biographies to have a better understanding of the band.

  • Good comment canuck21! I agree only 80% since you forgot one guy: Martin Hannet! Without him they would never sounded like they did...

  • I agree with your 20% :-). It's just that I do enjoy Joy Division's raw sound live too, but yeah, he played an extremely important role in the sound of Joy Division.

  • @canuck21 ian curtis biographies? where are they then.

  • Very Articulate and totally untrue of course yesyes

  • paul morely is nob

  • Velvet underground,Joy Division,Nirvana are the best bands of all time.RIP Ian and RIP Wilson!!!!

  • ah good old morely shiting on...

  • EXACTLY!!! Your so right, he sounded perfect.

  • Time to rebuild the hacienda.. whatever shape or form it may take

  • what for? the hacienda was revolutionary, it was the birth of rave culture. so if you did re-build it'd just be another club like the rest them and wouldn't have much impact! but would look very cool though

  • untimely comment re ahw, morley was a band wagon jumper, corbins video for atmosphere is contrived i was at the russel club..prick

  • Awesome - you went to the Russel Club when you were only 11... wow... unless of course you are telling porkies... just enjoy the music, no need to pretend you were part of it - show some respect

  • forget AHW bullshit. forget Paul Morley Psycho Bollocks. forget Corbins romanticised video...listen to Atmosphere the most poignant and beautiful song EVER recorded...bar none
