I think the tempo you play it makes the RH melody easier to follow and sounds like a 2/4....when it's slower and the RH harmony is not voiced enough under the melody one gets a 6/8. (at least that's my initial reaction)
Your technique is wonderful, but the indication "Nicht schnell" is important I think. Personally I tend to play it to fast... I've got a Schimmel piano too, I recongnized yours at the sound immediately! The rendition of these nice instruments are remarquable, I think they are the perfect piano for the romantic pianist.
