  • @homer1990kne Fully agree, Homer. The art of guitar playing is not the proper occasion to promote chineseborn cheap circus! Howgh!

  • he's pulling the strings!

  • obviously this gentle man is a genius for writing such a great piece, but when he plays the chords he pauses... John Williams doesnt and its very hard to do that

  • @01GuitarGuru01 he's not the composer, he is recognized as the man who brought this composition from the piano to the guitar and had the guitar validated as a worthy instrument to study, instead of just having it as a play thing.

  • @01GuitarGuru01 he didnt write asturias. This piece was originally written for the piano by Isaac Albeniz and segovia brought it to the guitar

  • Awesome! I need to learn this...

  • Wonderful ! The best guitar player ever !!!!!

  • Now i can se why it was so difficult to play with metronome, it's not exactly in the same tempo

  • please dont anyone else reply to @hellgodhaven as he is a total nutcase... he has blocked me from truthful comments. look what he has said.... are those the words of the sane????

  • call 911, i just dropped on the floor....stunning, magical, and masterful...

  • @hellgodhaven another way of looking at it is if you have'nt got the eye for the ball, you will never be a tennis player or golfer or footballer or snooker player.. some people are born with these skills and others are not.. let me put it another way. i knew a guy who was only 16 when he started teaching himself guitar..when he was 18 he was amazing, as fast as McLaughlin.. he was signed to a major recording company for session work..!! he was a natural.. co-ordination is'nt that simple...!!

  • @bensooty1 no he showed him self that and you're a dumb fucking inside the box thinker people like you should rot from this world cause everyone starts new and everyone can be out standing it takes the masterful mind to keep playing it if you don't try there is no winning learn to be wise and the world will be easy on you, by this i can see that you are a horrble teacher

    blocked fool

  • @hellgodhaven you spineless prick..

  • @hellgodhaven You dont have a fuckin clue what you are talking about so leave it to the professionals you retarded git.....

  • i saw Segovia play at a live concert he gave in the uk. he was 90 yrs of age at the time....!! blew me away.. so much respect for the man as he was self taught.. Genius

  • @bensooty1 anyone can teach then selfs guitar it's the mind to keep playing that makes him good

  • @hellgodhaven i am sorry but i dont agree.. if that was the case everyone in the world would be able to acheive an amazing level in all they do.. life does'nt work that way..i am a Guitar Teacher with a different approach to most. Over the years i have developed a technique of what i term as ''The Simplified System'' which anyone should be able to do. Most can but there are still those who cant..if it is'nt their forte they will never learn to teach themselves if they cant learn from my system.

  • @hellgodhaven U just proved yourself wrong w/ your atrocious spelling. Some people can spell, & others cannot, no matter how hard they try. So shut up about things you know nothing. Not everyone can sing well. Not everyone can play any instrument, no matter how hard they try. Not everyone is good at math or physics or art or any other subject matter. One day you will look back on your comments you left here and realize how ignorant you really are right now...at least I hope you learn that.

  • Some people just see performances of this and see how much better this man is at guitar and they choose to settle. Obviously this "teacher" believes he teaches the student in a way that they should be able to play anything. I am a music teacher by profession and by trade (B.ME) If I would have listened to what people told me or how well I played at one time I would never be where I am. I sing and can play any instrument that I put my hands on. Can I play this piece as well as this man? No

  • However I can play this it...My way, which note for note will sound the same..its the beauty of the performance which moves the listener. However close mindedness to anything does not allow for freedom of expression. So this hellgodhaven methods may work for most people, but I believe he is correct in the fact not anyone can play an instrument. The difference is the want to and passion to learn. Slow and correct technique anyone can learn anything with a GOOD teacher!!!

  • @jkb052088 agreed, I think the only problem here is that you got the people mixed up that left messages here.

Read the messages again and you will see what I mean.

Either way, this IS a masterpiece and a MASTER playing this piece, of that there is NO doubt !!!

There have been, and always will be masters at guitar playing, but Andrés Segovia and Narciso Yepes will always be on the top of my list of the greatest of the greatest guitar players of all time. <3

  • @indigoblue4me NO I replied to the person I wanted. You and I both know this is a great performance, but the moron hellgodhaven calls himself a music teacher that obviously doesn't appreciate music like it is supposed to be. I just wanted to add to the comment and show how little he really knows about music.

All music become personal. Comparing one performer to another is stupid. Enjoy the music for music-sake and beauty of it...My message to all listeners!*

  • sublime

  • 26 people listen to lady gaga hahaha

  • @Scarlov87 HAHAHA YOU'RE SO FUCKING FUNNY! Wow! How did you come up with a joke like this? it's so clever and new! I've never heard anything like this before on youtube. You're so awesome. You must be really intelligent to come up with such a smart joke.... -_-

  • @ToAlessaIDo Well I guess you are smarter hahahahahahahahahah, I don't care mr jim carrey if it's funny or not just listen and leave your sarcasm to another context.... D:

  • it's very good this song

  • Ok this guy dont make me throw my guitar through the window, he makes me wanna practice all day! :D

  • I am astonished sir.

  • Perfect!

I have heard all the renditions of this piece, and this is the only one that makes me cry.

  • MR. ANDRES SEGOVIA YOU ARE A MASTER OF THE GUITAR, NOBODY PLAYS it the way you do

  • He plays it smoothly very warm, that's unusual for this man who was perticularly severe on his guitars, one is in NY!

  • a god's own hands. 3 cheers to classical guitar

  • He's absolutely a Master!!

  • I love John Williams as much as anyone, but I admit he was a bit TOO perfect in his rendition. Some pieces call for a little more. Segovia took this piece higher, everything here was savored and given its proper place and duration. He loved on every single note and it shows.

  • lol Krieger ripped off this one! bad boy Robby!

  • He is great. But i have to say that John Williams definitely perfected Asturias. Personal choice.

  • @cirillosp Unfortunately William's started the trend of modern guitarists playing the piece really fast. Using his immaculate technique he swamped the dynamics and emotion of the piece. This spurned an army of young guitarists that concentrate on technique and forget the emotion.

  • MOOOORE THEN PERFECT !!!! WoooooooW !!!!! i 'll play that in 2-3 months :D:D

  • toccata and fugue? anyway more than perfect

  • che tocco eccezionale!

  • this is heavy metal stuff

  • im learning that tsong right now, and there are some really annoying parts in it

    but beautiful anyway

  • I have to say Mr. Segovia shows more patience over John Williams, granted the latter is amazing I've noticed him rushing through subtle pauses needed

  • mcgravy is poop. write something then speak your mind. On that I submit you stfu always forever moron.

  • allways when i listen to tissong i feel so sad... reminds me old times where i played this song with my orchestre.... i miss this time so hard and regret that i have left the orchestre

    im a fucking tard =(

  • when will you rise from the grave?

  • Bravo master. Bravo! El hombre es imortal.

  • way way WAY too repetitive to be respected.

  • youtube.com/watch?v=o1aBu2KzcMc

  • wow i lovee thisss this song! ! ! ! this man is a true legend! ! ! ! !i know how to play it but not as fast as that . . . .. . . fast but not as fast as that lol:P i wish he was still alive but theres nothin we can do about it and well always remembe him by his music.................................

  • Maestrooo bravisimoooo

  • I saw him play (Is that the right word for what he does?) back in the 80's. Seeing him walk on to the stage I wondered if he could lift the guitar, let alone play. I quickly reproved myself for those thoughts for when he took the guitar he seemed transformed and the sum of all his years became the beauty of the music he created.

  • @PhilJonesIII Phil, I had the exact same feeling as you did, but I heard Segovia at a concert at the University of Arkansas in 1963. He looked like he was struggling to walk then! But then came the music-----he filled a big gymnasium all by himself. It was wonderful.

  • in wich year?

  • very important to notice how this guy places his fingers (and thumb) so close to the strings that there is not much movement to the actual plucking point!

  • wow...Williams is a fantastic guitar player but players like Albeniz aren't just robots with an amazing techinque...they have so much feeling included in their songs..i think that this version is the best

He dicho. xDD

  • ¡Impresionante!

  • woow what a mastership!

  • Maybe the performance from Williams is perfect, but, this one is so intense and sensitive... listen how he slows down when better fits... you can taste it like a good wine, amazing!

  • @alvarokas Yup, Williams version is perfect, technically, like a robot, this has feel, and style, IMO, not to mention much nicer tone, Williams sound is just so cold and harsh, ugh.

  • well.....i prefer john williams.....but that doesn;t mean that i don't like him!!!it is a great version....

  • I went to see and hear him two times in NYC in the 60's, once in Miami and in SF Ca. The man truely the greatest master of the classical guitar, and now he plays before God the angels.

    Harry.

  • nice technique

  • God of Guitar!

  • Un verdadero maestro. Gracias por difundir este video

  • He doesn't need to play it as fast as his students do, he's Segovia after all.

  • Wow. This performance has so much more maturity and sensitivity and simple pure musicality than almost any other of this piece. He isn't overly dramatic, and he's not so rushed and hyper like many modern players. Just beautiful.

  • totally agree

  • segovia plays this a bit slower and with a tad of a delay before the chords. He owns this.

  • To paraphrase - the song of the Segovia is a song.

  • well old man i gotta say. i just listen to about 8 different versions of this song, including john williams. I believe this song belongs to you sir. Legend without a doubt.

  • @MrSikkness i always thought he played it best too

most people play it way too fast and ruin the melody of it

  • Segowia, mistrz nad mistrzami.

    Maestria najwyższego lotu.

  • It is good to hear Segovia later in life. To the younger people, this evokes the dark spirits of Spain. We can face this with hope, this shadow part of life. There is beauty here, too. Can we hear and feel this?

  • gracias Maestro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I would nail my nuts to the devils alter to be abl;e to play like that.

  • Hmmm...

  • @angryredcom yea, I would sell ur balls to the devil too, if i can play like that XDD

  • @SferaRunner you couldn't handle my balls :P

  • @j3qq4h7h2v2hch4 Yes. It is not pitiful for this talent and eggs?

  • @angryredcom : Dear Sir. It ois possible.

  • @MusicPredominates I can play this moderately well, enough to impress veteran guitarists, but this guy makes it look as simple as breathing.

  • @angryredcom why do you have to do that Y_Y

  • @angryredcom: I'd do a lot too, but please: not that.

  • @angryredcom Deal... muahahahah

  • @angryredcom rofl

  • @angryredcom we'll, I'll try to schedule an appointment, lets say... next week? I am not using my alter much these days... so it's all yours =P

  • @angryredcom : No, no, no you would not ! You would be very unhappy if you did !

  • @MusicPredominates I bet you what's left of my scrotum I would!

  • master of guitar

    He brings many feelings,Segovia...

  • John Williams stated that Segovia was a bad teacher. (not that i agree)

  • most good guitarists are, they're performers not teachers. i heard that as well haha

  • Its one thing to know something and to be good at it, its another to be good at teaching it to others..

  • all you music lovers, I met paco de lucia when he was very young, over 40 years ago, I was amazed by his talents, met Al di miola and john loghlin later years, the best in the world, are we lucky to share our life with this greats, let me tell you , segovia is different, I have to keep a paper towel handy when I watch him play, I love his style, most uniqe, he is the master, most sensitive and romantic, andres the one ond only......just listen..... you know what I mean.... thanks

  • I keep a paper towel handy too! and a bit of vaseline...

  • hahahahahahahahahaahaahhaahahaha

  • Segovia was John Williams's teacher , you know?

Master and apprentice ... I wonder how a duo would sound like , too bad Segovia is dead .

  • what about Paco de lucia , isn't he great

  • Paco de Lucia is a great entreteiner and artist.. but not like segovia Williams, breams.. and of course THE ROMEROS.. everyone else is part of the REst of great guitarist

  • Paco de Lucia plays a different style of music. Although he is a great flamenco guitarist.

  • If I didn't get vaccinated I could have been as great as him.

  • we all could have. lol

sincerely though, sry to hear that. hope u can still play

  • great video dude thank u

  • The one and only ! Gr8

  • look at the mastermind concentration of this great guitarist

Yo soy Espanol, espanol, espanol !! yo soy....

  • seems the classical world is even more populated by people who think that robotic technical ability is what makes a good musician, than in the metal world... :/

  • ok. I assume you think I was critizing Segovia. I was not. Quite the opposite. I was talking about those who say words to the effect of "Segovia is overrated, John Williams can play this way faster. So can loads of people!"

On the other hand, if you didnt misunderstand me, then I'll just say this: I don't "know it all" and nor does anybody. But what I do know is that techincal ability does not automatically make for a better musician. If you think that, then your a dumb fuck, seriously.

  • fretsMunky88 i totally agreen with you, i hate when people say hes overated. He pretty much introduced guitar to the main stage and as a respectable instrument

  • Fretmunky I agree with you very much, I hate it when people don't respect people who have done something to others, like guitar wouldn't be so widespread if Segovia never lived ergo it means electric guitar would be nowhere as well

  • Stunning

  • AMAZING, great music

  • thank you

  • bravo!!!!!

  • plaiyng fast dont mean it better, segovia could play it much faster but he like it like that and so do i

  • anna vidovic can't be compared to legendary Segovia. Even she can play this song quite fast but she can't express the depth of this song like Segovia

  • its not all about speed. classical music over the last 20 years has experienced changes that go along with the time. that is our society has gotten so face paced and the music is trying to keep pace. Listen to older recording done by John Williams of this song and older symphonic pieces you'll hear a huge difference. the listener can hear all of the notes and doesnt make the piece feel so tense, Like your hearts about to explode. You can enjoy the beauty of it at this speed. as intended.

  • Sorry but have you ever heard how Albeniz playes it?Holy jerk Albeniz died in 1909 and he has no records while playin' Asturias..

  • I love how he pauses on the chords, when he doesnt have to. adds so much more suspense. This is also a step up from the original key.

  • I think that makes it harder too.

  • and then i hear segovia do it. maestro.

  • sublime...

  • never the same

    always alike

    just beautiful!

  • Really? It doesn't sound right to me, like that. I even sustain the A from the very beginning. It just sounds better to me. I know most master players don't play it like that but I'm not a master, why should I play like one? lol

  • Hah, no, it makes it so that you have to be much more accurate with any form of single finger placement. Also, barring like he does at 0:20, is more difficult. Hard to keep those fat fingers on the E and D strings without touching that open B (at least, that's my experience). That's the hardest part of this piece for me so far :(

  • yea i cheated my way around that by fretting the bass.

  • very beautiful piece. segovia plays with the emotion that is necessary to move those that listen.

  • he is just amazing.

There is just nothing else to it. Some consider him to be the best

He is unique in the way that he can actually play and understand the music.

Some people can easily just play the chords and make just make sound that way.

He is different, he can play the music and not the just the chords

  • I love this. Also, here's direct proof that you don't need long skinny fingers to play guitar. There's hope for my chubby fingers, yet.

  • magic! magnificent. WHAT A MELODIE THE WAY HE PLAYS IT!BEFORE YOU say anything about segovia's videos think about his AGE!

  • Segovia is simply the best. He is reference for most of my preferred songs. I know you'll gonna crucify me for saying that, as my father did, but I like Angel Romero's interpretation more, in this song. You don't need to say to me that it's a subj. question, though =) . Thanks for uploading this video; it's really amazing. One of the first songs that I've heard when I started to learn classical guitar.

  • flawless. el maestro de la guitara. all around the greatest guitar player of all time. acoustic or electric

  • for sure hands down

  • increible

  • Don Andres Segovia R.I.P

  • how did he die?
