This LP is my favorite of all the many wonderful Streisand albums. And this is one of my favorite songs. She was at the pinnacle of her career, during this period. What a beautiful and powerful voice. And the orchestration is sublime. It makes me weep.
He touched me too. I was in bed and I felt a hand running down my chest. I was fearful and wanted it to stop but Jesus just had other ideas. Why does he do this to us. I've never felt so dirty and ashamed. Please christ, take your filthy perversions somewhere else. You will not touch my manhood again. When you told me that I liked it and to shut my mouth, it was devastating. When he was done with foreplay. He had his way with me. His joy flooded my soul.
Could you imagine being in the studio when Barbra laid down this track, being one of the musicians or producers? Listening in person as her voices soared through the stratosphere and then even higher on "Suddenly!" in the final phrase? I don't understand how they kept it together to actually perform the orchestration or push stop on the recorder. Oh to be there!!!
This song is operatic in scope, with the best ending I've ever heard. I get goosebumps the size of watermelons every time I hear it. My mother loved Barbra so much, I think it got into my genes, and my only child, my daughter, LOOKS like her except for her nose! She looks absolutely nothing like me.
this song is so wonderful because barbra sings it and because of its construction, the band, the words. its music beyond anything. a perfect song, a perfect singer. it gives you goose bumps just to hear it. imagine hearing barbra sing this live!
I WILL NEVER EVER FORGET GOING TO SEE BARBRA WITH MY MOM, SHE IS GONE NOW, BUT SHE GAVE ME THE GIFT OF LOVING MUSIC AND I LOVE BARBRA SO MUCH, THANK YOU MOM FOR DOING THAT FOR ME, LOVE LUCI
The song's lyricist captures in a brief song what it means to be in love, the thrill that one feels when the object of one's affection gives an unmistakable sign that he or she also feels the same way. It's a moment of utter exhilaration, untold freedom and bliss, especially when one has been waiting for so long that sign. This lovely song captures this sensation. Of course, Streisand's voice brings it to life.
Barbra Streisand totally catches the excitement, power, glory and thrill of BEING IN LOVE - Yes well... it does change everything, doesn't it ? - LOVE!
The singing here, is thrilling. This is just greatness, between the wonderful arrangement by Don Costa and Streisand's vocals. From 2:02 to the end, the drama unfolds. Even the French horn splat at 2:24 is thrilling and merely adds to the drama and spectacle of this performance and arrangement. Clearly, nothing is the same. Enjoy!

@TheCoddlefish ... Thank you for your reply on my comments concerning Barbara Streisand singing 'He Touched Me'. Yes... she is one of those rare performers who has a dash of 'the divine' about her. I tend to also go on a spiritual journey whenever I hear her sing 'People', 'Papa Can You Hear Me' (which confirms her as my favourite cantor) and I was once priviledged to witness her singing 'On a Clear Day' in Los Angeles - which was right up there with the sermon on the mount.
@friaraidan Ha!???? Anyone can sing this as beautifully as Barbara???? Ha! Well there hasn't been anybody yet... who has got even close???? Mind you... She is my favourite cantor! Delightful, joyous and blooming marvellous!
Talk about a crescendo! This song is the very definition of that word. Beginning at 1:32 the song starts its climb up the hill and it just keeps going and going. The great Glenn Gould absolutely loved this song and wrote that Barbra's command of that last "Nothing, nothing, nothing is the same." was totally operatic.
This is probably going out on a limb..but this one of Barbra's most beautiful ballads...everything about it is heartfelt..and cuts you to the bone if you've ever been in love..thank you for posting this beauty..
I'm a 47yr old metalhead. However on growing up in the 70's i really liked BS amongst other artists and this song totally takes me back. Please don't ever dis anyone who is into a different genre of music to yourself. People are people, music is music. Have a passion, live your passion. Live life!!!!
If you feel this way, Bigbadben7, listen to the other great female artists whose work I have uploaded, such as, Karen Carpenter, Keely Smith, Linda Ronstadt, and Joni James. I think that you may like much of their work.

@BilsonIslington you read my mind-Actually, anyone who has discovered that the Divine is Real, could sing this just as beautiful as Barbra-
It makes no difference-Love is always so encompassing.

I grew up loving Olivia Newton John and i still do.
However I was convinced that No female could ever move me the way Olivia did.
I of course was not exposed to prime Streisand yet.
Once I started listening to Barbra's material from 1964 through about 1974, I never looked music the same again.
She changed my entire prespective of the art.
