  • fuk love this trak

  • lol wholewideworldthankyougoodnight. 6:56

  • This show was at Neo's? Wow, how many times was I there with just a DJ?

  • Molocules made Ministry a leather cowboy hat worn by god at a show.

  • "Classic"

  • Neo's, Esoterica, The Limelight, ..... Chicago, back in the day.

  • @2012endofanerror YES!! Medusa's, Limelight, China Club, etc

  • Al Jourgensen has said that if he could buy every copy of "With Sympathy" and burn them, he would. His first album was an exploration into pop, before they decided to turn industrial. First time I heard this album, I thought I'd bought a different band by mistake...

  • Alien looks so fucking insane in this pic.

  • The quality of this recording is amazing!

  • "When you're in love, every day is Halloween."

  • Very nice. Ministry in the '80's? None of you can remember that.

  • Classic proto-goth embryonic industrial. Masterpiece second only to Bela Lugosi's dead in majesty and influence.

  • @joctheviper1 proto goth? you might have to go back to before the victorian era for that one dude. goth = gothic. dressing in the style of "gothic" look it up. goth does not equal emo, emo does not equal industrial, and im sad that im even mentioning it but both emo and "darkwave" do not truly exist.

  • Happy Halloween!

  • Happy Halloween...fer real...

  • i was into front 242 at this time. was a bit more "manly" than ministry. no offense AL

  • oh god.... ministry has been awesome to me since the alpha and will be til omega...

  • in the mid to late 80s

  • When did Ministry make the move from synth pop to industrial metal? and WHY?

  • @videocircus They released "With Sympathy" which was a pioneering synth album in its own right then went away for a couple of years and came out as the harder, angrier and much louder version ..WS was around 1982 and the rest started up in 1985..they have been melting faces ever since!

  • @bornflippy1 Al is ashamed of Ws he only made it under duress from his producers and the companies that owned the studio. Lucky for us all that he made enough money from that to be able to go on and make the music we all know and love. Dont get me wrong Ws is good for what it is.... you know if you like boy Goerge youll love WS lolol

  • @MrZifnab369 Yep! and whats great is Al was so pissed about the Corpo record companies at the time he waged a campaign of hateful lyrics against it and many other things for twenty years! Anger is an energy and Ministry uses it well.

  • @videocircus because instead of making great music like he did with the album Twitch he wanted to be on MTV so added some metal and in 1992 was making money even though it sucked, he went down hill from there in two realms music quality and drugs and booze. my opinion is biased cause Twitch and prior is my favorite stuff but i'm old. Don't get me wrong i like Land of and Mind . and ive seen them live 3 times. first time in '92 but hes had the same look and music style since '92 boring!

  • Love the fake British accent.

  • 5 people are "Squares..." LONG LIVE GOTH LIFE!!

  • Awesome! This song was a freakin ANTHEM.

  • At the end of the day!!! The synthpop made them what they are today!!! Not to mention a few other bands related, same genre.

  • This could never be 1986 ... This must be 1984 as he never played this song after 1985 ever ...

  • I mean when you listen to how sophisticated, cool and tasteful "With Sympathy" is by Ministry....it's hard to believe it's the same guys...then again, years of heroin & leather cowboy hats probably changes alot...even down to a molecular level.

  • @astronautagogo isnt everything a molecular level?

  • Divisive Ministry fans are funny and annoying at the same time. The ones who whine about the industrial and metal vs. the ones who whine about the synthpop, lol. The arguments are ridiculous and silly. Especially when people bring the age element into it like some of the gents below.

Me, I love all Ministry, except for the Bush trilogy, which I mostly just find sort of mediocre.

  • @PreacherNny Very mediocre. The music after Paul left the band just didn't do it for me anymore either. A solid track or two each release isn't enough.

  • I always thought Al should acknoweldge this part of Ministry's past live. To combine this sound with what Ministry has become would be incredible. Or has he? Maybe I just haven't heard it. I would kill to be at the show where current (yes, defunct...for now) Ministry takes a swipe at this song.

  • @LordSmas Shortly after posting this, I saw the more current Ministry take on it. Uncreative and uninspired. Sad. Nevermind. Some things should just be left alone.

  • the re-hash of this on Undercover was blinding.

    Classic song though.

  • Anyone remember dancing st Channels in Rockford, IL??! Thank Uncle Al for that awesome place back in '85--All hail Al J.!!!!!! Love ya no matter how much you might hate the ol'm days, baby! Most of loved it & your "Effigy" days. Thank You & Ministry. XOXOXOXOOXOXO

  • POST MORE, THANKS A LOT, EXELENT, SHIT....THE BEST!!!!!

  • this is al!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome recording. I like old, old Ministry. I prefer the Metal stuff. I wrote Al MANY times to redo this tune, except Metal version. Al doesn't talk too much about the Early Ministry Days.LOL!!!

  • the white pads and alains goth style RULE

  • For a bootleg this has AMAZING sound quality. Thanks.

  • the underground san francisco cali 80's the best

  • TollCrusher, great call on all those wicked Chicago punk/new wave bars back in the good old days. Just wanted to add a few more to your list.... Obanion's (Clark Street) Dreamers, Club 950 and Club Foot on Lincoln Ave and Halsted. South Side you had Over Easy and really early in the Chicago Punk seen you had La Mere Vipere. Only got there once, but met our boy as a doorman, before he opened Exit, Crowbar, KaBoom, Big Nasty, High Tops, Out Takes and a short lived Kit Kat Club. Good Times!

  • @DrDougMusic1

Thanks for the kind shout out.

Yep ... I do remember Club 950 on West Wrightwood Ave.

You seemed to have named the remainder on the list of cool clubs to go to.

For the life of me, I am trying to remember a small club that was on N. Sheffield, south of Belmont Ave., south of the "OZ" jazz club on N. Sheffield, that I believe one of the bouncers from NEO worked at.

Club was only open for one season. Sat on the northeast corner of Sheffield and a cross street.

    ;-)

  • Fellow Ministry fans ...

I managed to find out that this show was recorded in Toronto, Canada on October 4th, 1986.

To download a live bootleg of this set (and another one on June 6th, 1986 in Chicago, Illinois) go to the following link:

    h t t p : / / darkcircleroom . blogspot . com/2010/07/ministry-live-twitch-1986-bootleg . html

Just remove the spaces between the letters and adjacent to each dot " . " then cut and paste into your Internet browser.

    Fantastic sound!

    Enjoy!

    trollcrusher242

  • @trollcrusher242 are you sure this is from 86, sounds earlier to me but i was a mess back then. either way they sure changed a lot over the next couple years. this isn't how i remember them from 86 but i might be wrong. by 89 things really changed and improved .

  • @garden73

If I remember correctly, the link that I previously provided in which to download the two 1986 Ministry shows (bootleg version in .mp3 format) via the DarkCircleRoom website's link, if you listen to the "Everyday Is Halloween" track on the bootleg and then this version here on YouTube, you'll see that they match up perfectly. (Mainly due to Al's comments to the crowd at the end of the set confirm it as being the same show).

Give it a try and hit me back with your opinion.

  • these pics of Uncle Al are incredible...he like spawned that nuwave goth look...I remember lots of the club kids back then emulating his fashion sense & hairstyle...what a wonderful memory; those nights @Malibu in Long Beach, Long Island dancing to Ministry's hits: All Day, Revenge, Over the Shoulder, The Angel, this one, Effigy, etc. etc.

  • Damn, Uncle Al's voice was incredible back then!

  • \m/

  • In Chicago in 1986 they played all ages shows (remember those?) at Medusa's and the Vic. For those of us that knew him he had a fake British accent back then haha.

  • Everyday is Halloween!

  • OK Chicago peeps-who used to dance to this at THE LIMELIGHT or ESOTERICA, back in the day?

  • @eurobaby460 Berlin (on W. Belmont Ave.) EXIT (on N. Wells St.) Esoteria (on N. Lincoln Ave.) Medusa's (on N. Sheffield) NEO (on N. Clark) The Octogon (on N. Clark) The Orbit Room (on N. Broadway) Smart Bar (Cabaret Metro on N. Clark) :D Take care, trollcrusher242
  • I saw Ministry on Halloween night in 2004. They started to play this song but quickly stopped playing it. I wish they would have played it as it is one of my favorite songs

  • @AnimeKeith That's because it embarrassed them. They don't want to be reminded of having recorded "dance" music. Listen to "Work for Love". Al really detests that song. It was one of my favs back in my clubbing days.

  • I remember back then SINcerely,B

  • "I'm not the one that's so absurd!" Love this line

  • I remember Chris Shepard playing this often on CFNY 102.1 (The Edge) before it became the Edge. Loved it from the second I heard it.. I've never seen a video for it.. Is there one?

  • Question: Who was part of this line-up during this recording? I always wondered who was working with Al between 1985-86. I know the famous line-up with Paul Barker, William Rieflin, et al joined from 1988. I also know the line up from 1982-83. I am very curious if anyone has this info. Thanks!

  • @DerKosmonaut1972

Richard Jonckheere (a.k.a. Richard 23) of Front 242 worked with Al as part of the first inception of the Revolting Cocks. Also added his vocals on Ministry's "Nature Of Love" track.

Patty Jourgensen (Al's former wife) assisted with vocals on: "The Nature Of Love", "All Day (Remix)", and "The Angel".

Luc Van Acker (of REVCO and Three Angry Poles fame) contributed vocals on "Where You At Now?"

Frank Nardiello (of My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult): Live show backup vocals.

  • this song defined a goth generation back when i was a dj in the 80's! Classic!

  • Woo ... Al's voice is way off here ... very "raspy".

Could be due to the audio quality of this bootleg from way back when in 1986.

Nonetheless, a good resource / touchstone as to just where Al Jourgensen / Ministry originated from.

Interesting to hear this. Thanks for posting it.

    trollcrusher242

  • Ahhh... when the world was simple.... good goth/industrial was only an album away.... I miss those days..... I miss Ministry at this time.... I miss my hair....

  • rocky bopbop.

  • Where's the rest?

  • Well, Al hates this album & wishes it were never made, even though I really did this song & have since conception.

    But he does not!!!!!!!!

  • yeP TWITCH definetaly should be in 100 most ground breaking albums. The Angel ROX!!!!

  • I love all the styles of Ministry, I have been a fan since like 83 and have loved all of it. I just wish AL would relize noone is falling for that record company redoing the album crap, he should own it and be proud.

  • anybody listen to twitch at all? it is from 1986, BEFORE

  • LOVE TWITCH!!!!

  • I actually bought it for myself for my birthday one year since no one else would. I really need a new turntable to play it on!(and not the new digital ones that have no character). :)

  • Everyone complains when Ministry does stuff that's less geared towards metal, but then people talk about how they love Ministry's really industrial stuff!! Humans confuse me!!!

  • 17 here and I wish ministry kept their original style. Land of Rape and Honey was decent as was A mind is... But by far the original stuff was the best!

  • God YES!!!!!

  • Im probably the only person left under the age of 30 that likes these guys... And im 15 xD Ministry, greatest band ever!

  • lol I'm SO glad I'm not alone lol, I'm 16 and I love them. ^_^

  • hell ya, that's cuz you're the coolest kid

  • nope, i'm 16 and i dig this group

  • @Stuffzombie Do not think of yourself as the only one, I too am under 30. Ministry is cool. I am 22 1/2 yr. old.

  • BOP BOP,,,, BOP BOP

  • Man I love those hexagonal 80s synth drums :D

  • ...who doesn't? :)

  • Annoyed that the photo posted is from Al's industrial days. This was obviously recorded during Medusa days when his hair was black and longer. Still love the recording, I was at Medusa's for their concert.

  • I guess this was someone's stock photo, compared to the image on the album jacket, there is a huge difference.

Oh, so there is no further confusion, "Everyday" is not on "With Sympathy" it was released on vinyl as a single, and eventually made it onto compact disc when "Twelve Inch Singles" was released.

Also, an early single was released from "With Sympathy" 'Work for Love' did hit the air before "Everyday" did.

  • This has always been one of my favs. If u don't like maybe u weren't alive and trying to survive high school. This song work for OCT or July.

  • Happy Halloween everyone!

  • too bad they never made a video for this classic

  • I don't know..I like the slow transformation....like a ruthless butterfly. It all rocks.

  • OMG This live version rocks. You have to get 12" singles on the WaxTrax label (import) to hear the full 10 min re-mix, it is absolutely the best. This song is NOT from With Sympathy. It was right before they got signed with Warner.

  • oh ya halloween's coming

  • this is what ministry should sound like, not metal.

  • That's the beauty of it. I'll take Al anyway I can get him...his side projects are awesome -- but I do agree I love this era the best. :D

  • @tool619

Lots of the heavy industrial stuff is cool but I know what you mean...the synth pop Nuwave Ministry is far superior and totally classic. 'Halloween' is my all time favorite.

  • @tool619 I disagree completely, Rape and Honey was a great album and twitched had alot of good tracks as well but when they were Industrial Metal, they sounded alot better then this synthpop crap, this is one of the few exceptions tho, otherwise Ministry in the With Sympathy era was god aweful

  • @tool619 No way... Their metal is awesome! So is this, best of both worlds

  • Awesome!!!

  • I use to play this on my radio show in college back in '89. Saw these guys a couple of times. They never did this song tho, so it's nice to hear it live. Thanks!

  • i remember a time i was dancing to this at a club, not knowing it was Ministry, and not even knowing the song title.. my friends and i thought maybe the song was called "Bop Bop".. ahh., it sure is fun being ignorant about music sometimes, it leaves the possibility of being surprized every so often... 5 STARS!!

  • In my case, me too i use to dance

at some local new wave dance clubs

and every time i hear a tune i like

I ranand ask the DJ who is that ? thats how i meet Ministry,Visage,Blancmange, Softcell, etc . . . its nice thought . . .

  • @dustpan83 That's funny!! I didn't know the name for a while either so I used to refer to it as the "boboobaba" song.

  • @dustpan83 you Bop Boppers. always surprising me with your surprise.

  • am assuming that thoes are pics of ministry? gosh, it doesnt look like al at all. ive seen the music video for over the shoulder, and his hair is all ong and black, and he looked all heroine chiqe skinny. so when i see these pics, and hear this awsome sound quality, i think im gettin rick rolled. anyway, thanks a bunch for posting! i love this

  • give him some long black hair, some facial hair, a bandana, shades...and you got yourself a modern day Al

oh don't forgot about 45pounds or so

  • @Deathkill06

but back in those days alot of the "darker" bands didnt care what they looked like, people have gotten a little bit vainer since then.

i remember the virgin prunes used to play in their dressing gowns upto about 89 :-)

  • @Deathkill06 Hell, throw on 60lbs just to be safe. (It's been 2 years since that comment.)

  • @Yungyukying - that 1980's Al before he went Industrial Metal goth..whatever it's called....lol

  • @Yungyukying I guess you've never seen Al before "The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste". I miss his early synth stuff and Wax Trax Records releases. Give me some Acid Horse and some Big Sexyland area Revolting Cocks anyday!

  • @Yungyukying Its Al, just study the face now and then - youll see the resemblance. Music has to start somewhere. I dont think Minsitry would sound the same if they started Metal and moved in on Electronic sounds. It would be a 100% different band. Enjoy this diamond in the rough!!!!

  • @Yungyukying this is why he looked like in the early 80's

  • @Yungyukying heroine chiqe,,what an awesome term,,,love it

  • Excellent quality! Appreciate the post.

  • very good vocals for a live track.

  • I love this song, Its cool to hear Al doing this style.

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome. Where in the world did you get a hold of this?!?!

  • from an awesome fellow I once spoke with, if you want the show private message me and I'll give you my AIM information.

  • I heard, right after they made their first album, that they had to make it pop so they could get a label. I think there are 3 or 4 very good songs on their first album.

  • loved and saw them in their Goth days, loved and saw them during their industrial days. say what you will about the early days. `L

-- this band made such a wicked transition from british to industrial.

    love ya al!

  • Kickass. I would've loved to see Ministry live around this time, especially in a Goth club (which I hear were some really insane places back then).

  • hahaha fucking al. he's so ashamed of his past! i can't believe thats him in the picture! hahaha hilarious.

  • Man, this brings back memories! I wish I could get my hands on this album again. I can't hardly remember the name of the album...

  • Twelve Inch Singles.

  • It's With Sympathy...I loved it then and still love it now...regardless of what Al thinks about it.

  • With Sympathy really is'nt that bad of a record. Al just don't want to come out of the closet and admit it's a good album. I liked it, but I liked 12 Inch Singles, and Twitch better.

  • Then came Twitch...also a fantastic album...but Every Day is Halloween wasn't on either album.

  • Every Day came out after With Sympathy on Twelve Inch Singles...this was the work of the original lineup of Ministry...Twitch was after Al parted ways with original member Stephen George.

  • This song it's awesome!!!

One of my fav for a long time ago=D.

  • I loved this song , mostly because I was right at that age where it spoke to me as an outsider. So much fun!

  • I can think of too many things (most of them sexual) that go bump in the night.

  • Love, love, love this song.

  • seen this act manny times years ago,,,,alotta folk here worshipped this guys sound,,,,,,,mid 80s,,mike weber florida brevard melbourne,,,,,,,,

  • Where was this recorded (city)?

  • Toronto

  • Oh my goodness, and I lived in London, Ontario, at the time. Only two hours away from this wonderful performance. Guess I blew it. Thx

  • How I would have loved to see this live!

  • Al is Cuban but in this song he sounds British.

  • Yeah I always wondered why he kept the British accent for this song....you can hear it get really thick at 5:33

  • great upload

  • thats the year i was bron on oct 31 1986

  • Now you know what to sing on American Idol.

  • k pex esta buena la cancion pero y el video
